Professional Halo player Dave “Walshy” Walsh has officially retired. This thread could go into a long history of everything that he's done for competitive gaming and his work with the Gamers Outreach Foundation, but a simple query in your favorite search engine will tell you plenty.

I want this to just be a place where we can share some kind words and show support for a legend of eSports. This man is the reason I, and many others, got into competitive gaming. Owing a lot to him, I thought this was the least I could do. I'll keep this short and just give my message:

Thank you for everything you've done. You've made my last 8 years a lot more awesome. Good luck with the next step of your life. I know you'll succeed in whatever you do.

His twitter is @Walshy304

Please send him some kind words if you haven't all ready and/or leave your message here.

Halo2 is where I started my esports career, i use to love watching this guy and others on MLG sundays giving it their all. I have to give him my thanks, he is what kept me driving to be competitive in esports and why I am where I am today with StarCraft2.

So one more time thank you Walshy for all that you have done for esports and I can't wait to hear some of your casting, if you need some tips feel free to hit me up we can share a beer in Columbus

Cheers.

Walshy is a great guy. I think he'll do great in the booth commentating MLG Columbus. Cheers, and I hope Halo bounces back.

I just posted about this in the Halo MLG thread a few minutes ago. Truly dominant Halo 2 force. Hopefully he does as well at commentating as he played the game.

to me walshy has always been one of the single best ambassadors for the halo community. twice i was a member of a community just starting in mlg when halo was already established, and while others in the halo community tried to assert their doinance, walshy could not have been more welcoming and open to the new games. fantastic guy and desite my limited halo knowledge i know he was a fantastic pro too. wish him the best of luck with his new career.

Judging by those pics he should consider a new career as a stunt double for Christian Bale. Would completely nail it.

Sad to see him retire. I went to Anaheim 09' and watched him and Carbon (Carbon FOREVER) get 3rd. I hope he finds the perfect home that fills his gaming desires. Also, he has the best cheek bones in the world.

I never met the guy but he's always the one that is most respected from what I've seen.

All great things come to an end though. Walshy, you will be missed.

He was a Titan of Halo MLG since it's foundation, he had a run of being in the finals of every MLG Halo tourney for several years (I believe it eneded near the time when halo 3 came out) He also one of only 2 players (his teamate for both titles was ogre2) to win 1st place in 2 game titles at a single MLG, he was on the winning team of both Shadowrun and Halo 2 at a single MLG event. I actually had the pleasure to run into his team in almost every halo, I played him on Chill out via Xbox connect on halo ce (about 8 years ago), halo 2 and halo 3. Unbelievably talented. I can remember watching his team win a tie breaking match to win the finals at one MLG, the opponnents needed just 1 kill to win, and walshy's team came back from a 36 to 49 deficit (with 14 unanswered kills) to win.

Really sad to hear this, but Bungie, the makers of halo, REALLY dropped the ball with halo reach. They basically undid everything that made halo what it was (things like controlling maps through positioning) and ruined long skill based fights, by putting power weapons everywhere ;( From what I hear this comming season will be the first season of MLG ever to not have any halo title. Makes me sad. Such a good game, many good memories for me.

:)

Even though I haven't followed Halo in 4 years, this guy deserves some mad respect and recognition. I'll never forget the domination that was Final Boss in Halo 2

Didn't finish lower than 2nd for the entire lifespan of Halo 2 at MLG. Won 2/3 championships. Only lost one event in 2005, in 2007 they won an event without dropping a single game. True monsters of their time. Most consistent E-sports team over a period of 4 years.. if you want to include Halo in 2004 when they played as Team Domination (Ogre 1-2 + Walshy, and Killer N) then onto Shoot to Kill / 3D / Final Boss (Ogre 1-2 + Walshy, Saiyan/Strongside)

From OGRE-1 and OGRE-2 's Wiki's.. Walshy's team-mates throughout Halo 2. Find me another Esports team that can match this reign of terror. (Walshy's wiki doesn't have the info)

Agree with reach nearly killing Halo. I'm hoping some of the change with the anniversary will save it, but I can't see it. Hopefully Halo 4 turns it around.
