god i can't wait for this years f1 to start

i am nervous as hell about the coverage (bbc without brundle, sky without morales) but excited as fuck about kimi's return, usa gran prix, new regulations. also eagerly awaiting the newer drivers showing their shit (petrov, di resta & senna mostly)

edit: my predictions

massa not inside the top 10
vettle to win drivers
petrov wins a race
marussia fail to qualify at least twice
mclarren win constructors
webber replaced before the end of season
button and hamilton want to part ways by the end of the season

If someone is to leave a team, top team that is anything can and will happen in the low team, is Massa.

Hopefully i can go to Montreal's race this year.

I'm wondering who's casting for sky, i used to download BBC coverage, wondering what i should do this year.

brundle is with sky, he's the super awesome guy who used to do pit-walks/in race commentary with coulthard for BBC

He started again during the 2010 season, so this one is his 3rd since returning.

I'm quite excited for the first race to see who created the best car this season. I have a feeling that it's Red Bull again and that McLaren and Ferrari will get crushed again.

Good at least Sky race commentary will be good, anyone i could know doing pre-race and whatnot on sky? cuz i can't see much of Sky site, with a Canadian IP.

I have a feeling that Lotus and Mercedez will have a strong start, then get pass by McLaren and Ferrari as they will have better upgrades. RedBull on top, of course.

For really detailed technical F1 information there is a guy from England who has a blog that writes amazing articles. Fascinating reading material on there. Highly recommend it.. http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/

Also, there is a weekly webcast on youtube called "The Flying Lap". He is frequently on this talking about the techincal side of F1 in great great detail. If you love your tech shit like me, you will love it.. Its a very geeky webcast, but its really got loads of detailed info on F1 that you simply do not see on mainstream coverage. Their main page is = http://smibs.tv/the-flying-lap

Cant wait for the new season. Ferrari have got a very competitive car, and they have probably the most advanced car on the track. I think they might just surprise everyone at Melbourne.

Anyone watching WTCC right now? In Coronel's onboard-view you can see a poster in his cockpit that says "EAT MY DUST!"

Interesting Poll... tbh I can't see Jenson winning another title... with Alonso moulding Ferrari into a team that can win races and with Lewis that can only improve over last season

So, here we are just a few hours from the FPS at Australia! Here is my guide and predictions for the year.

Testing seems to have been more veiled this year than usual but most teams are saying that it is too close to call. I think the respected strengths of each team is largely around the same area as what the season finished. Red Bull seem to be sandbagging in my eyes and Ferrari have an issue or two to resolve with their new car. McLaren seem to be going fine but they havent exactly set the times I would like to have seen, but it is a vast improvement on the last winter. The two teams who I feel have stepped up this year are Mercedes and Lotus, with Lotus setting the fastest times over the winter despite some significant reliability problems. Their driver line-up is weak compared to others at the top however and that is a major handicap if they are looking for wins. Mercedes on the other hand have looked consistent and they have the "new F-duct" http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98035 that will give a pretty large advantage in quali and the DRS zones of the races. Question marks still hang over their drivers too though, with Schumacher and Rosberg hoping to secure wins they havent been able to achieve thus far in the silver arrows. The last word has to go to Caterham, it appears they have bridged the gap to the midfield and that is a huge achievement especially when you look at how Marussia and HRT have performed.
As for the driver battles, some interesting team-mates this year. This is how I see it going.
Vettel > Webber. It looked last year like Vettel had broken Webbers resolve and I do not see any change happening here, I expect Vettel to dominate Webber.
Hamilton > Button. It was Lewis' worst ever year and the first time in his life a team-mate beat him. Expect Lewis to respond and beat Jens but I feel it will be close again.
Alonso > Massa. Do I even need to comment? Alonso by miles.
Rosberg > Schumacher. Schumacher performed well towards the end of last year and the F-duct boost for quali will help him a huge amount but I feel Rosberg will have too much for him, close one though.
Raikkonen > Grosjean. Could Kimi ask for a weaker team-mate? Outside of HRT I dont think so.
Hulkenberg > Di Resta. The Hulk is an outstanding prospect with his only blip being his debut season in a difficult Williams, he will be hungry to prove himself. I expect him to beat DiResta comfortably.
Kobayashi > Perez. Hard call between these two, they both seem inconsistent but I will choose Kamui because I like his approach to racing.
Vergne > Ricciardo. The two rookies battle it out at Diet Red Bull, I think Vergne will prove a good driver. Confidence certainly wont be a problem for him.
Senna > Maldonado. This is a weak driver line-up but I expect Bruno will come out on top in the end.
Kovaleinen > Petrov. It will be tough for Vitali here as Heikki has settled in and driven very well recently for Caterham, expect a landslide victory.
Glock > Pic. Tough job for anyone to come into a bad car and prove themselves and Glock is not a bad driver at all.
Both HRT drivers have no place in F1 so I wont even bother with them.

As for the title, I think it will be the usual protagonists who fight it out. Vettel, Hamilton, Button and Alonso. If I had to pick one now I will say Vettel, as I feel Red Bull hasnt shown their hand yet. Lets just hope for a great year and minimal stewards inquiries
once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more

Aristo, I'm not so sure about the Hulk. di Resta pretty good. Funny how we each predict the other nation's driver doing better
But, yeah it's almost time, let's do this
One thing to note: HRT still hasn't gotten their second car through the technical inspection.... (lol)...they are aiming for a last-minute special treatment at 11:00am Melbourne time, 90 minutes before first practice...(lol) ...

For anyone interested:
At raceroom.net , you can download RaceRoom The Game 2. Simbin, the guys who develop it, are pretty much top notch in terms of simulation games for quite a few years now, this is as close at you will get with today's home technology.
It doesnt matter whether you like racing or not, whether you have a gaming wheel or not, just get it.
Drive some laps on Hockenheim or Nurburgring in the 2liter BMW. It's pretty quick, it's a tuned touring car that would eat most of our everyday cars for breakfast.
When you are getting comfortable after a few laps, get in the Formula RaceRoom car. You WILL shit bricks.

I've driven a formula 3000 car. It is crazy fast. The 3000 cars are far more forgiving then the F1 cars, but it was still incredably difficult to drive fast. An F1 car is engineered to such a fine balance that if you aren't going fast enough then the tires and brakes aren't warm enough and you dont have enough downforce, but if you're driving to fast then you are spinning out. Increadably fun experience driving the formula 3000 cars. Look around at you local raceways and see if they have any open wheel "race schools" or "race experiences". I have done multiple and they have all been worth it.

For the techies. Mercedes Rear wing F-Duct has now officially been declared LEGAL by Charlie Whiting. Read more about it here - http://scarbsf1.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/mercedes-f-duct-front-wing-operated-by-the-rear-wing-drs/

The whole system is rather genius, and in theory it should make Merc alot faster in Qualifying and in the DRS zones for the race. Be interesting. None the less, the system is very clever, and def thinking outside the box!

All the other teams will be rushing to copy this system as it is now deemed perfectly legal.

For a non-mainstream preview to this weekend, check out smibs - http://smibs.tv/the-flying-lap/austraila-2012-f1
