I don't think there car is that great this year, and stratedgy wise i don't think they have ever not done a one stop? >.<
I don't think it would be a good move for Lewis, but again im sure he knows what is best for him, i don't mind where Lewis goes aslong as he is competitive <3
Press Conference Pre Monza;
Hamilton refused to comments on those reports in the Drivers' Press Conference at Monza, but did little to quell the speculation with the admission that his future is still yet to be determined.
Questioned whether he knew which team he would be for driving with in 2013, Hamilton answered: "No."
Then asked what would be the advantage of joining Mercedes, Hamilton merely replied: "I've no idea, I've not really thought about it.
"I drive for McLaren, we've won the last two grands prix, we've another big race coming up and that's what I need to focus on."

I sort of think he shouldn't move but if he does: also fine for me. The possible constellations for who gets to be JB's teammate are just too exciting.
Personally I hope: Massa -> bench, MSC -> Ferrari, Ham -> MGP, Raik -> McLaren, some new guy to Lotus

Hihi, I've never posted in here before, but I was wondering if someone could point out where I could find material to learn about how F1 works?
Since BW's dead I was looking for another sport to follow and was told that I'd have to understand the difficulty/how things work to fully appreciate it (much like BW lol).
Singapore has a GP here but it's really stupid that F1 is on the other cable network and the only one I can catch on TV is our own.

Eh, Singapore loves throwing money at stuff for its image since we don't have much else imo haha.
Thanks so much! <3 the TL community always for being helpful, was the same when I was picking up Street Fighter too.

Pick up some season reviews too, it is the best way to learn the sport. From the last ten years I recommend 03, 05, 06, 07, 08, 10. They are around 3hrs each but enjoyable.
My favourite is 2005, here is a short video montage of it. It will spoil who wins the title so be warned.

2008 <3 wow, i loved that. Brazil race alone at the end just made it the best ever (For me) overtaking TWO people on the last lap to win the championship is madness, must of gone on a huge bender after that XD

Thanks for the montages, lots of crashes though, surely the hype isn't from watching those?
I was wondering, how do you learn how to appreciate say, someone winning? Is there strategy involved? Like in Starcraft you can appreciate how difficult and visually exciting it is when someone pulls a crazy micro move while macroing behind it. Is there something like that? Do the top drivers have some kind of individual style that one can associate with like with TBLS? Is there some kind of metagameish concept and are there strategies on different tracks like with maps?
Haha I'm so glad I can ask in here since you guys will get the Starcraft analogies!

Strategy-wise it can't really compare to starcraft. Basically they decide how many pit stops to take, when to pit and which tyres to use and that's it. Of course that's not easy as you need to take into account the lap times and strategies of the other teams but it's mostly just maths.
The real skill is designing the car (which is all kept secret) and driving it. Yeah drivers definately do have their own styles, although often the car doesn't match the driver. If you look at lewis hamilton and jenson button, one is very aggressive and will do well with a car that's just quicker than everyone else - even if he has to pit more often and fall behind again, and the other will do well in a car that when driven carefully and deliberately will keep it's speed throughout the race and not have to pit so much.
I guess most of the strategy is actually on the track or on the drawing board, as there are usually only a few places where you can actually overtake on any circuit so the rest of the track is spent trying to put yourself in the best position for the overtake (or to avoid being overtaken). In terms of what the designers/engineers do, a lot of how the car behaves is in how much downforce it produces. For example the Red Bull car always has more downforce than other teams (because they have an awesome designer) which is great for a track with loads of corners such as Monaco but not so good on a more high speed track like Spa.

Thank you! I guess I'll have to spend time and watch some to start picking up all these details. Guess I'll start by watching the qualis

wow, that was crazy. can't believe alonso in 10th, I kind of had a feeling massa might have screwed him some how. WP Diresta nice driving.

too bad for alo, but I like what Ferrari tried to do.
Vettel 5th, not so bad - he might have a shot at the win if he works his magic like he did throughout this season.

Yeah di Resta and Hulk could have thrown Red Bull into troublesome times for tomorrow Alonso's toe lap sector times in S1 and S2 looked really awful, but he shouldn't be too worried tomorrow since Grosjean is out and Maldonado back in P22.
edit: Didn't the Ferrari train look like Chevy's WTCC train a bit?

1- Get best time in Q1 2- Get best time in Q2 3- A bar breaks and get 10th 4- Profit
So dissapointed, Alo said in the post interview that given the times, it was a fairly easy pole position with the current state of ferrari, such a shame

Wow Perez is running this show. Well, in fact Hamilton does, but he gets zero air-time because he's just so far ahead. Really sad about the penalty for Vettel, that was really uncalled for.
