The 3 most important things in the game are: -Killing bots -Not dying -Making sure the enemy team doesn't get the annihilator. You can grapple people with the right mouse button on your secondary weapon. Getting grappled can be pretty frustrating but once you get the hang of it, it's very fun and tactical. Other than that you can click Play>Training Camp to play on a map that is designed to introduce new players to the game. Matchmaking is still being worked on, you can reduce waiting times by playing on more popular regions.

Maybe my aim is just terrible, but I feel like it often doesn't register when I hit, and some weapons just do almost zero damage even when you've maxed offense. Maybe people just have really good endorsements or something, but I find it almost impossible to get kills unless I play assault or rocketlauncher-lady and get a few nice splashes into a group of enemies already at low health. Even with a ton of bot kills and no deaths, I find the game just escalate after a certain point where the enemy team becomes impossible to stop.

It feels so random, suddenly you just stop hurting your opponents at all and get completely stomped, there's pretty much nothing you can do about a decent minigun-dude and healer playing together unless your team actually does something about it. Bullet weapons seem to have an effective range, the further you are the less damage you do.

I've played for 200+ hours so far personally never felt like something is unfair. Usually when I get together with the people I play with we win 95% of the time, which goes to say that teamwork, is in fact, OP. Which is why it can be frustrating when your team doesn't work together.

1. It is NOT a FPS. If you are a beginner and are just trying to kill the enemy team members, DON'T!!! Kill bots! 2. Know the annihilator locations / times on EVERY MAP!!! This is the SINGLE most frustrating thing when new players simply ignore it. It is the most important element in each match, and if your team loses it consistently, it's almost a guaranteed loss (not always, if you know what you are doing) 3. DON'T OVER-EXTEND. Stay back with your teammates. This is NOT a Rambo FPS where you run and gun people down. It is a tactical TEAM arena game, and sticking with allies will benefit your team. 4. Don't be greedy. It's MUCH better to go 2-1 (kill / death) then it is to go 15-13. The reason for this is when you die the other team gets money. Even though you are killing people, it is MUCH better to starve them of those resources then to be all gun-ho and go for a million kills / deaths. 5. Spend your money. Spawning bots is very important. Bouncer bots cost 1,000 and are crucial in lane pushing, and can even net you a few kills here and there. You can also use your cash at pads to refill your health, increase your speed, and refill your juice bar. You should NEVER have more then 2,000 coins on hand at any given time UNLESS it is late in the game and you are saving for a jack-bot (4,000) 6. Know your role. There are 5 distinct class archetypes in SMNC, and each follows a similar role. For instance, if you are a Support class, don't run up into the jungle solo trying to gank kills. Your team NEEDS you to place turrets, launch airstrikes, heal allies, and when the time is right they need you to pump some shotgun shells into an enemy that is getting too close. Knowing your role is the KEY to victory in this game. Try different classes until you find one that suits your playstyle... but for the LOVE OF GOD don't cry imbalance and quit the game because you rolled Support and went 1-8. I'm sure there is more... but these are the major annoyances I have with new players. This game is quite balanced at a high level of play, so don't blame the other team having an OP character when you are losing. Look at what you are doing and how you could be doing it better. The developers are also AWESOME. They are totally active on the forums and generally take a lot of input from the players, which is great because a transparent / active dev team means they are truly committed to making the game that the people want to play. This game has a LOT of potential... and the user base has been growing at quite a rapid rate since public release on steam. Given time, I honestly think this game has potential to become a popular E-Sport (with the right funding). There are already tournaments being held that are 100% sponsored by the developers. 9.5/10 overall.... only thing that could use some work is matchmaking. The queue times are FINE so whoever was whining about that has ADHD and needs to take their adderall. I've never waited for longer then 2 minutes in queue. The problem with matchmaking is that there are a TON of new players, and to fill game lobbies the servers place new people on team with experienced veterans to the game. For instance, I have over 200 games played on SMNC... and I STILL get matched with 1st time players. This in and of itself is extremely frustrating... and the game would of received a solid 10/10 from me if this issue wasn't as severe.

Also something I really like is that Uber does major patches every single week, which really makes the game feel always new and exciting.

Played and really disliked the game when I could just play a game like dota 2, but your article really sells it, I will almost for sure have to try it again.

If people are still playing this, please let me know. We could link up through Stream Friends and be one of the few arranged teams out there.
