Yeah that's another way I guess. I honestly prefer mine because from looking at Adren's way, those smokes are also hard to line up, which costs you time and makes them easy to miss. What if I use a different part of my viewmodel finger to aim with, I accidentally use the wrong fence post to position myself etc. I like to find ways to make smokes super easy to throw, that's why I often times find positions where you run into a corner or something, it locks you in, guarantees that you're in the same spot every time. Also, it's much quicker to run up against a wall or into a corner than lining up some wall between two pieces of fence so they 'kiss' as Adren puts it, so you're saving a couple of seconds here and there. All this makes easy versions of smokes more reliable, especially when you're in the heat of an actual game.
All down to what you know and what you've practiced of course. In the end it's all the same!
your smokes did seem to not form a "perfect" wall and leave a little space inbetween, dunno if thats always the case.
The smoke gets a bit thin in the middle sometimes but the reason it looks like a bigger hole in the intro is mostly because of the noclip camera perspective. Compare it to the end of the video to see that it definitely connects!

Is there any place with some good beginner guides to competitive? I feel like I have a really good feel for the guns at my current level. (Silver 4.) But I dont know what push strategies work best on T as what maps and what the best defensive splits are/and their locations, when to rotate, good grenade/smoke angles, etc.
If you want to rank up and improve the most, you need to forget all about what you just asked and simply work on your aim at Silver 4. I know it's frustrating, I'm also low level (just 2 ranks higher than you currently) because I actually enjoy figuring out and learning smokes, tactics etc. but if you want to be productive and want to see better results then you need to worry about nothing but aiming at our level.
Dust 2 spam is normal, if you don't want it, take it off your queue rotation.
Good aim, good reaction time, proper crosshair placement, spray control, and some sort of game sense will be more than enough to carry you out of Silver and into high novas/low AKs. Once there, people will be slightly more competent and actually able to carry out some of the strategies.
I'd even say that you should queue ONLY Dust 2 at that level. You have enough to worry about in aim, prefiring, and game sense that you shouldnt complicate it by playing 3+ different maps. Maybe you could choose to play only Inferno or only Nuke, but if you're gonna be good at one map it should be dust 2 since its so common. I slowly started introducing Inferno and Nuke once i hit AK rank (after which it also appears to be a lot easier to queue into as well), and both maps have a lot of extra stuff that you need to learn (strategy wise AND game sense wise).

I'm still learning the game, but I used to just focus on this, but then I started learning nades, and I highly recommend learning how to use nades properly. I think they're fun to use, extremely effective, and crucial in taking/defending bomb sites.
I could just focus on aim, and for the most part I do, but... Nades!

I dont quite understand why you are only at that rank tho, because those nades you are working on are definitly not common at that level. Aim is important, but you can get atleast ak purely by being at the right place at the right time (gamesense) and holding your crosshair at head level. The fact that you know those nades tells me you should have atleast some basic gamesense and be at a higher rank.

The smokes and nades I figure out are just something I do for my Youtube channel, in my games they rarely play a role, and this goes to show why people say that at Silver and Gold Nova you don't need to worry about anything but aiming, because my teammates don't know how to even play with and abuse them. The times I've smoked Banana on Inferno only to have my other teammate at B just push through the smoke immediately and getting killed by Ts at lower Mid for no reason... And that's just one example.
I'm personally in a weird matchmaking spot because I used to play a lot of CS pre 1.6 way back in the day, so I still have some gamesense and knowledge from those days but my aim has gone to shit. Now that I'm getting back into the groove, I feel I can rank up a bit more and hopefully out of Gold Nova in the future.

Whats the best way to practice aim in general, then?
I don't really have a problem with playing Dust 2 a ton, I was just surprised that I literally never saw any of the other maps.
Also, I've noticed that I do substantially better as T than I do as CT. I think it's because i'm not used to playing as defensively as CT. Any suggestions?

CS:GO is my first Counterstrike game, though I did play Sudden Attack and Soldier Front previously, and I just played competitive. Started out in Silver Elite Master, and within 35 more wins got to MG2. So basically just play a lot of competitive is my advice. So much more fun than DMing. I hate DMing.
Edit: Also if you want to advance even faster than that, just use the awp. Takes no skill at low levels, and carries so hard. I do respect what it adds to the game at higher levels though!

Mirage sucks when you play with a bunch of retards that don't understand literally how important mid control is in that map, You win mid, you win the round.

On my silver smurfs, I see CTs rush all the time and it hurts to watch. Basically, as a CT player, your job is to get into the camper mentality and just camp a site. Play a position close to or on site where you can watch the major entrance points. You want to use smokes at the chokepoints to slow them. Your job is to slow the T push with your flashes, smokes and firebombs (if applicable) as much as you can. However to effectively to this, you need to learn how to play the chokepoints on major maps. For example dust2. 3 major sections. Mid/Cat, Upper Tuns, and Double doors Long a. IF you're the B players. Play on site B and just space your flashes and smmokes into upper tunnel. at mid, you NEED to make sure that if Ts go Cat you see it because your B guys have to rotate or if They push into Mid, then you to call that so A guys can rotate if need be. Double Doors, smoke out their doors and force them to push through it.
Basically, to play as CT, you play in camper mentality. IE you want the Ts to rush into you.

Honestly, the best way to practice aim is just to play as much as you can. Lots of people that are new to the csgo think that dm'ing as much as you can is the best but it really isn't. If you just play a lot of matchmaking or scrims you'll learn to have proper crosshair placement, nades, recoil control, movement, and aim as well. The most important thing is crosshair placement. Spend a few days playing while only focusing on having good crosshair placement. It'll be hard at first and your gameplay might suffer but after a few days you'll be able to do it without concentrating on it and start to focus on improving other things.
You can have proper crosshair placement playing deathmatch servers too. It's not all "spawn, shoot, die, spawn shoot die". Just find some decently populated ~18-20 max players and play those. Those still allow you to move around the map which lets you practice your crosshair placements. Also, I've noticed some are actual FFA deathmatch servers which let you team kill as well, and I'd say to avoid those. Too chaotic.
