That being said, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is not to solo queue this game. You will have a bad time. Wut? Im having a great time sry, and ive been playing continuously since launch
How is the hacking situation? Kinda worried itll get bad again with the sale... it was pretty bad but its getting really better thanks to the LoL tribunal like system that let people watch replays of reported players and see if they are cheating

BTW, CS:GO on sale for $5 on steam for the next 7 hours. Go go go!

What do you guys think about Valve hinting at silencers in the patch coming in the next few weeks?

can't wait for silencers to come back
|
What exactly does that entail gameplay wise?

Silencers lose damage and accuracy, but improves the recoil as a side-bonus, they make it hard to identify a weapon by the firing sound, which could help a little bit.

Do people not show up on radar?

I wish Valve would add some new maps or heavily revise some of the existing ones. It's really depressing that there's only 3-4 playable competitive maps, imo.

is anyone from the old TLFPS 1.6 EU group playing GO? Would love to play again with some international guys, would spice up my english speaking skills too

Looking forward to silencers. Have been playing this a bit again in recent weeks, changed my crosshair (pretty tiny now) and that's improved my accuracy significantly. Also dragged my dpi settings right down, which is weird, since playing CoD 4 (occasional Lan) has me do the exact opposite, which makes for an awkward first game or two when switching dpi settings..

Hey m0nt, what do you have your mouse sensitivity set at? I want to make a change to mine and I kind of like where yours is at.

hey, in those videos I was using 2.05 ingame sens, 450 dpi, 6/11 windows and deathadder @500hz. However I sometimes use 1.3 ingame instead of 2.05 depending on how I feel like playing(I wouldnt recommend doing this but lol).
really you should just pick something between 1-4 ingame sensitivity (values in between 2-3 are the most common) and make sure you have 400 or 450 dpi + 6/11 windows.

I bought the CS pack on Steam in the sales and I am really enjoying CS:GO, been spending the last few days playing and watching vids on youtube, weapon guides, random pro matches etc.
It's made me intrigued about all the Counter Strike games, the history of the pro scene, whether old pros play GO, who the big names were in 1.6, who the big names are now etc etc. But I can't find much information on any of this or an active forum for any CS game. Basically I want the TL of the CS world if that is even possible. :D
Anyone?

Well, if you want to follow news from the CS world hltv.org is the place to go. They also have a large database of events and statistics dating back from 1.6 era so you can find a lot of stuff from there. However, as far as I know there really isn't a "liquipedia" for CS, and I am not sure if there are articles that would really go through the history of the game. The hltv.org forums are filled with trolls as any other gaming forum, but you may find someone who remembers some good articles if you ask there. However, they do have a news archive so if you really are motivated you can go back a long time if you wish.
But let me try to give some sort of a starting point. I would say the current top teams in CS:GO are 1. NiP, 2-3 Verygames and the newly formed Astana Dragons. Out of these, NiP includes 2 former CS:S players and 3 former 1.6ers. Out of the 1.6 players, f0rest is in my mind without a doubt a top2 cs player of all time (together with a Polish guy called Neo), and f0rest has also transferred his skill relatively well to CS:GO. He has been a very dominant player from 2005-2006, winning some tournaments pretty much every year since then. NiP also includes GeT_RiGhT, who is easily the best current CS:GO player. He was a 1.6 star who rose to the very top of the scene in 2009, and has been there ever since.
Verygames is a French-Belgian team consisting of former CS:S players. I didn't follow CS:S as closely as 1.6, but I believe at least part of their team won pretty much every event for multiple years that they attended in CS:S, and they have been pretty successful in CS:GO as well. Their only problem this far has been that they haven't been able to beat NiP at lan.
Finally, Astana Dragons came together with their current roster only a week ago or so, but I would expect them to compete for titles immediately. Their lineup consists of 1 Russian, 3 Ukrainians and 1 guy from Kazakshtan. Out of their players I would mention Dosia as probably their current best CS:GO player, and markeloff and Edward. The last two were part of NaVi's incredibly successful lineup from 2010 onwards, where they won multiple majors and both of these players were considered at least close to top5 in the world back then.
There's a few names for you to follow at least to get started. Overall the CS:GO scene is a mix of newer players (who probably played 1.6 or CS:S but were never famous), and older pro players. Naturally many of the successful 1.6 pros have already retired, but some of the very top players are still remaining to entertain the fans Sadly CS:GO hasn't really managed to bring more new players to the genre, and thus the viewer numbers (as well as sponshorship funding) are far lower than in sc2, LoL or DotA.
