It wont because the anti cheat in normal ranked games is a joke. Not everyone wants to play on ESL or ESEA because it's more effort then simply press one button.

Sound is fixed, just takes time to adjust. Weapon sounds in 1.6 are definitely better, but they're all distinguishabl in GO as well.
Also, on that note I've been doing some late night CSGO official matchmaking out of boredom, feel free to join me. :D (west coast, us)

I have three CAL-M level players who would want to play, Maedi- PM me for Skype

Is this worth getting? I played a lot of 1.6 cal back in the day. Absolutely hated source for the usual reasons. I've been hearing mixed things everywhere but what's been kind of been putting me off is steam stats. 1.6 seems to usually have the most players of the three CS's, suggesting that they haven't really improved much.
I think this is the only game I know of where the player base is this evenly split among the original and two of its sequels. Right now, there are 23,337 players in 1.6 21,258 in GO 19,821 in source.
Such a bizarre case. It would be so much less of a headache for valve if everyone just switched to GO so they would only have to focus on one game.

Is there a global or regional ladder system available on the web like in SC2? I have a friend who plays and I wanted to see his stats/ranking - is that possible?

It's kind of a complicated relationship with CS:GO. To sum it up, I play GO because I know it's the best we're going to get for now, as far as counter-strike goes. Is it better than Source? I hated Source so, sure.
Better than 1.6? Hard to be fair and objective since I have so much history and nostalgia tied to 1.6. Not really better, but like I said earlier, it's good enough. It's a compromise. I understand the scene these days for gamers is a lot different than it was many years ago, times have changed.
I kind of just compare it to my relationship I had with Brood War. Does Starcraft 2 hold a flame to the legacy that is Brood War? Well time will tell. Is it as fun and great as the Brood War experience? Not really, but ... time to move on. :\
I do know one thing for sure, give the game a shot and give it a good one, it's definitely very easily to be frustrated or disgusted as a 1.6 veteran, in your first few hours of gameplay.
Edit: My personal belief on the stats reflects that people either don't have the computers to run GO, refuse to adapt to a new environment, and the fact that the FPS scene is so goddamn split between games, I feel like half of those gamers playing CoD right now would be playing CS or visa versa if there wasn't competing titles. Back in the 1.6 era, when it was developing so many hardcore fans, there wasn't really another team based fps title to run to. Also given how, pardon my use of the word, "casual" gamers are these days, it's no surprise the skill-ceiling and frustrations tied to CS in general would leave people to stick with what they're used to or play "easier" games. (Sorry, don't want to start drama here.)
Edit 2: Looking to play tonight if anyone's down, PM me or add me on Steam! http://steamcommunity.com/id/maedi

Righto, if you go to your stats -> achievements, or something like that you can check your progress on those medals there.

Maedi is too good, was watching him play tonight, some epic spinning 360 weapon swaping headshots, did you used to play cs as pro? or cal-i ?

Hey guys, I want to get back into this game after playing 1.6 a lot in my younger years and loving it. I heard the aiming and recoil is a bit weird in this game, could you guys link me some guides or something to get me started? Also what are some must have console commands? where can I find the pro gamers settings?
|
In Source i had to set up my game through console like cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate, interp all that. Used to be about 7-8 of them. I was wondering if i need to set up anything like that in GO? Far too many times i can only see someones head and somehow give them 20 in 1 with a M4. Its starting to get really frustrating.

Those player numbers accurately reflect each game imo. 1.6 is still the best counter strike, but CSGO is a fairly worthy game in its own right. It's infinitely better than Source, anyways....IMO give it a shot. The built in 5 v 5 match making alone is really quite awesome.

If you go to my ESEA profile at http://play.esea.net/users/442077 you can see my config is there, which is my autoexec, config. All the rates and other useful miscellaneous commands are there, most of which are commented to show what they are. Enjoy! :D

Just practise against walls with sv_showimpacts 1 for a bit. Also play with the dynamic crosshair at least initially. The inner crosshair gap is directly representative of inaccuracy, unlike the ones in 1.6 or Source. For the snipers, practise with weapon_debug_spread_show 1.

Basically, get really good at tapping. Tapping and very controlled bursts are very good in this game. This game really rewards clear and patient shooting. It's not until later that you should start bursting, when you're more comfortable with the game mechanics. (If you try to shoot like its 1.6, you will hate this game)
On that note, most of my deaths are linked to me reacting with 1.6 instinct and flick spraying people and then two hits land and I die a fast miserable death.
Good luck!

MAEDI'S QUEST TO GLOBAL ELITE: THE FLAPPING EAGLE WINGS OF FREEDOM!
I'm presently gatorade pringle master flex 900 noscope star rank (valve has such stupid names for ranks) working my way to global elite, if anyone wants to join me and my friends on our quest to victory, message me!
higher ranks only please, I think you only get ranked up from beating higher ranked people than you (their system is kinda weird, its definitely not KDR driven...)

maedi do you face many hackers at eagle level?
i havn't seen a hacker in game in months but i am only 2-AK rank

You know, in the past week I've been doing some nightly MM and there was a *few* sketchy individuals but nothing really insane. I was always wondering what all the fuss was about, then last night I came across two games with the most blatant individuals ever. Didn't bother me, it's to be expected of public play, honestly. Just move about your day.

So I just bought CS:GO today, played a lot of 1.6 back in the day though it was more like a PC bang/Lan setting, really exited to get back into this, been playing mostly casual classic modes. So anyway I've got an ESEA pass which leads me into the next questions: 1. At what time should I get into competitive matchmaking and (being a long time DotA player) are there specific roles every player has or just everyone does what they want with minimal communication? Some general pointers about matchmaking would be a help too 2. When is the best time to get into ESEA, as in at what time in my evolving as a player can I gain the most from playing on ESEA?
