Hey TL! I have been talking to a lot of people and I searched this forum and no one seems to know about Fire Emblem! These games are so awesome. If it weren't for them I probably would not have ever purchased a GBA or grown up with games. So the purpose of this thread is to educate the ignorant and I really have a good feeling that people will enjoy these games.
Another side purpose will hopefully be to talk about certain strategies, characters, choices, etc.
Intro to Fire Emblem OK the Fire Emblem series are turn based strategy games originally from Japan that are some of the most difficult but addicting and fun games you will ever play. The biggest reason why they are so hard is because there is a special twist that most TBS's don't have: If any player you control dies, you will never be able to use that character again. This gives these games a unique experience.
They also have a very in depth story line that almost always has a main character that is a Lord of some Fictional Country on a fictional continent. This Lord's country usually gets invaded and then all hell breaks loose. You control a small band of heroes throughout the game that gain experience as you defeat foes. There is always a grid-style map that the characters interact on. Each player can move any number of units in one turn. Once a unit reaches 100 experience, they level up, plain and simple. Once they level up they have a chance to increase some stats. These stats are chosen by an RNG and each character has a different % to level up certain stats so you will quickly learn which characters are going to shine later on in the game. Very fun I promise.
I almost forgot. THE SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING. you will have so many eargasms when you play, that you will vividly feel the gooey wax flowing down your shoulders in a hot sensual way. On a related note: the black knights theme is my ringtone for my mom XD
So, I have never actually played any of the Japanese games because I am so addicted to the American games I continue to play them. In chronological order the games are:
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragons and the Blade of Light (Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi) AKA FE1
Fire Emblem: Gaiden AKA FE2
Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem (Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo) AKA FE3
Fire Emblem:Genealogy of Holy War (Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu) FE4
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 FE5
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade (Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi)
Fire Emblem GBA AKA FE7
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones GBA (<<My personal Fave) AKA FE:8
Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance GC AKA:FE9
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Wii AKA: FE10
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon DS FE:11
Now with Emulators being so available, I encourage you to try one of the GBA games and see how you like it. They are all incredibly fun games that for some reason always fly under the radar. But there is a WARNING: If you are the type to get easily frustrated, or don't want to play a challenging game, don't even bother.
Oh and PS: If you were ever wondering where Ike/Roy/Marth from Super Smash Bros. came from, here it is.
Hope I didn't bore you!!!
If someone could please post a link to a good ROM site or at least say the best place I will edit it in to the OP. Thanks so much!
For anybody who has played some of these games on normal or easy difficulties and are looking to challenge themselves, you may want to check out this link Archetypes. It is super helpful knowing which units to avoid and which are worth it.
For everybody new to the series i think this poll will help some.
Oh god, I've played way too much Fire Emblem back in the day. I bought all the english ones and still play them sometimes. You can play all the japanese fire emblems since there are community translations out. My fav is FE7, followed by FE6.
I'm actually the best Fire Emblem player in the world.
You forgot A LOT of Fire Emblem games, and FE6 is the best one. You say you don't play the Japanese ones because you're addicted to the American ones, but you should definitely play them.
You're missing out if you haven't played the japanese ones! For starters, FE6 is the prequel to GBA "Fire Emblem" (FE7 in the series). FE4 is considered by most fans (I believe) to be the best game in the series. And not to mention the hardest Fire Emblem game in FE5. You'll find translations of these games out there.
Still waiting for the 2nd DS game to get localized too...
I loved this series, especially FE6 and FE7. The characters, the story, the strategies, everything I loved. I spent thousands and thousands of hours on these games. ><"
Glad to see some people play it! Anyone ever play Hector hard mode or FE6 hard mode? =x
Omfg, finally a thread for one of the greatest games of all time, YES. I fucking love Fire Emblem yeahhhhh
I've actually picked up playing Fire Emblem again after not playing in an eternity and have been playing a ton this summer; I just finished FE6 a few days ago and it was definitely as difficult as everyone says it is, but I still prefer FE7's storyline and characters. (y u such a wimp Roy and y u so beast in SSBM) I'm going to start playing FE8 either today or tomorrow and I'm hoping that it'll still be fun even though everyone says it's a cakewalk. I am so going to abuse the crap out of the Tower of Valni lol.
I've wanted to play Path of Radiance for a long time, but I don't know where my Gamecube is anymore and don't know if you can play it on an emulator. Is it possible?
Anyway, thanks for making the thread Juddas; I'm glad that there's now a thread where TL members can discuss some good ol' Fire Emblem with each other and curse at the RNG gods for screwing characters over. :D
I couldn't get into fire emblem because as said before not as fun as advance wars or as awesome as the game I keep returning to(Star Craft I never left) : The battle for wesnoth
FE6 and FE7 were amazing games, and FE9 had a lot of nice things.
FE4 I didn't really enjoy as the mechanics were not very good and the fun stuff of the game was running around with legendary weapons and crazy skill combos, which you probably wouldn't find without a guide.
FE5 I have heard good things about but never played myself.
I have a half-finished HHM run somewhere, but most Fire Emblemming I do these days involves me hacking the game and seeing what I can do with the engine. Unfortunately, most of my stuff is on my old laptop which I fear is having a hard drive failure. Only my FE8 hack is intact, and I swear that still missed its Eireka route hack after I spent ages making it. >.<
Fire Emblem 6 and 7 are the best fire emblem games. I tried playing the gamecube one but I thought the writing was laughable. It still had decent gameplay though.
i remember my brother playing FE7 and training all his people to level 20 and classing them up and then training them to 20 again in the colloseum and then finishing his last character for that level (hawkeye) and then running into a swordmaster with a silver blade and some retarded crit chance
i will never forget his scream as the crit animation started
I never thought these games were that frusterating. I played the 2 GBA ones and the 2 Gamecube ones.. didnt find any of them that hard. I did a HHM playthrough and it wasnt bad either. Just gotta be smart.
For those looking for a real challenge, ChinaFE is probably the only honestly "hard" fire emblem ChinaFE aka The Will of Good and Evil is a patch for FE8 for the GBA that makes the game significantly harder while adding a bunch of awesome stuff like third classes and characters from past fire emblems, hardcore fans of the series should definitely look into it (though it is all in chinese xD)
I abused the living crap out of the Colosseum. It's so easy to break the game with. :I
Out of curiosity, does anyone know some characters to sacrifice to continue the Gaiden plot in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon? I'm at a complete loss on who to sacrifice. The mages are so good and for some reason characters that I want to sacrifice have had beastly level ups

Keep one of each class. It's not a huge deal if you're not playing on H5 mode. I played on H5 mode and couldn't beat the final boss XD It's so crushing haha.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones GBA (<<My personal Fave) AKA FE:8
I'm still trying to beat this on the hardmode. I'm stuck on Ch.19. One little misstep and I have to start the whole thing over again. Hard difficulty is no fucking joke. On normal you can send in one guy to kill every enemy. On hard he will quickly be killed if you try that. You won't have much appreciation for FE if you only play it on normal (I didn't).
Edit: I also like the story. No redemption. People make choices, and sometimes they are irreversible. Sounds like real life to me.
Question: Are the old japanese Fire Emblem games playable by an English speaking person? I loved the hell out of the game boy series but thats about it, the ds ones were not as good IMHO. Anyone play the japanese ones?
I wish FE 1-6 were more accessible in my childhood. I've played through 7 a few times and it's my favorite one although I've only played the GBA/DS ones. Sacred Stones was a huge disappoint though. I didn't even know about the Japanese games at the time, but FE7 had such a great story and progression, and FE8 was extremely short and boring. I don't understand how that could be your favorite one ^_^ It had the tower and all the unlocks, but it just didn't measure up.

The only bad thing about the hard modes is that it cheats the hit percentages. If you don't have 100% chance to hit you may as well scratch off 20 or 30 points of your hit chance.

There are definitely GCN/Wii emulators out there (Dolphin comes to mind), but I haven't tried them, so I can't say if they work or not...
Anyway, this is just a fantastic series of games, anyone who's even remotely interested in strategy games should give them a shot. I'm partial to Radiant Dawn, but that's probably because it's among the more challenging of the series, and it's pretty good in terms of length. Would you guys recommend playing through 1-5 at all? It seems like it would be a bit of a hassle to find emulators/translations for them, but if they're good games I'd definitely be interested.

I can't give you the best advice on that because I only played through it once, but basically look at the reclasses of all of them. I have heard people say Wolf is the best character in the game, but I think they reclassed him to hero or something.
BTW Marth is amazing in Shadow Dragon and brawl lol. He pwns Ike in Brawl. like badly
Speaking of OP units, but in Path of Radiance, has anybody done this:
In the first mission with the base, forgot which that is, just BEXP the crap out of Boyd until he classes up? You can wreck that mission if you get him anywhere close to warrior.
Same thing with Haar in Radiant Dawn btw. For a while he is absolutely unstoppable.
and edward. I have never not had him max all stats besides 1-2. I have played that one like 5 times at least
Path of Radiance is absolutely one of my top 3 all time favorite games. The fantasy world, strategy, unique character development and interaction, soundtrack and underlying philosophical and libertarian tones make it a very memorable and impactful experience.

Yes, I can't completely recall for FE's 1-3, but 4 and 5, barring a few glitches can be played through fan translations.

Thanks, may give it a try, can't read Chinese though lol.
Also, if anyone understands Japanese, or are familiar enough with Fire Emblem mechanics, you also can try FE7if and Super Thracia, probably two of the more sadistic Fire Emblem hacks I've ever tried. Though FE7if has a heck of a music collection, it's insane. Note: I take no responsibility over any form of mental trauma suffered from playing those hacks.
Though I'd recommend completing FE7HHM, FE5, FE10 HM and FE11 H5 [Maybe also FE12 Lunatic reverse] before going on to it.
Definitely try out the older Fire Emblem games, like FE4 and FE5, (FE11 and 12 are basically remakes of FE1 and 3 respectively, with slight modifications to gameplay and updated graphics) are very good games for their time and still provide a decent challenge, especially FE5 and the sheer sadistic madness it can inflict on its players. + Show Spoiler +
I'm looking at you, Cyas and your 10 leadership stars. You + Reinhardt gave me nightmares for a while.
FE4 however, is very much easier if you know what you're doing and easily breakable with understanding of the game mechanics. One thing though, the maps are ridiculously long for Fire Emblem standards.

I forgot which Fire Emblem I played but it was a real blast to play. Also, Louise is fracking hot! She looked like my gf at the time, so yes, I fantasised about a GBA character -_-
dude, all Fire Emblems are so good!!! they are really epic and the story line just drags you in like no other. Shadow Dragon was really good too. so glad i got into the game series that japan hid from us XD
I probably put more time into FE7 than all other games combined when I was young. Everything about the game, story, music, graphics, animation, all so good. I still put on the soundtrack when I play Starcraft occasionally.
I'm sure the story wouldn't seem so good if I played through it again now, but I remember it having so many of those sad little moments. A lot of characters had interesting little narratives of their own, Matthew's in particular was always my favorite.
I've played a little bit of the newer ones, but they never seemed quite as well done as Rekka no Ken or Sacred Stones.

I don't want the game crashing on me every chapter or something like that.

That's Fire Emblem 7 you played. I usually almost never use prepromoted units, but I liked Louise's relationship with Pent and Pent was a pretty useful prepromoted unit.

Yeah, FE7's my favorite FE so far too, and I definitely recommend you go look for the FE6 ROM and play FE6 if you haven't before and loved FE7! It's more difficult than FE7 but you'll see some familiar characters from FE7 and might go on a nostalgia trip like I did lol.
I litteraly just was playing FE8 Scorched Sand and pressed save, THEN BAM OMFG save file locked and then the emulator reset and I was back at homescreen. My save file bugged out or something and I can't get back in.

Currently playing through Radiant Dawn hard mode, attempting to avoid ripping my hear out of my head but it's not working so far.
I'd heard it's harder than hard mode of any of the others, but I didn't really believe it until I started playing it. God damn Micaiah's party sucks balls.

FE5 was a nightmare. I remember those levels with over 9000 ballista/catapult things. You're basically sitting there hoping they all miss. I really, really liked the stealing system in that game, though.
Anyway, I can't wait for the fan translation patch to be done for the second DS remake. Shame Nintendo isn't bringing it to the U.S -_-;;
Also, did anyone else actually really love Radiant Dawn? For some reason it wasn't so well received in reviews, but I honestly think it was one of the best FEs. Battle animations were superb, story was great, and all-in-all it was an awesome sequel. The Greil Mercenaries were hilariously OP in it, though.

To be perfectly honest, the current fan translation is enough to play through the game completely, just lacking the story/plot, though the story is mostly the same one for FE3, except with the inclusion of the some extra characters and a couple of chapters. I can understand why one may want to wait for it to be finished, but if anyone is more of a fan of the tactical gameplay with no compulsions of knowing the storyline, you can feel free to try it out.
My main problem with Radiant Dawn is that it's mainly imbalanced in a way, i.e. + Show Spoiler +
The Greil Mercenaries are kinda overpowered but Micaiah's party vastly underpowered due to low levels.

Shadow Dragon pissed me off later on because it got laughably easy. It was a mistake to keep all the stats of enemies the same as they were in the original, yet increase the stat cap for your units to 30. Everyone becomes stupidly weak. Obviously, playing on the hardest difficult is a good option, but I'm just saying that normal was waaaay too easy to be called "normal". They built up Camus to be some ridiculous badass and my Cain/Abel just roflstomped him easily.

I agree that they had balance problems with the party. One of the funnier parts was when the Dawn Brigade faced off against the Greil Mercenaries. Pure hilarity in how outclassed the Fail Brigade was. Nolan's a badass, though.
I love Fire Emblem. I've played the GBA ones numerous times ( Including FE6 ), watched LP's of Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance. I even gave FE4 a go ( or FE5? The one with Sigurd ) and the Japan only DS FE game. My favourite is probably FE7.

On normal mode, probably FE5, though Shadow Dragon H5 and FE12 Lunatic Reverse gives it quite a challenge.
You can also try some FE Hacks that up the difficulty though, but can sometimes be completely unfair and downright evil...

Oh yea. Not saying that it was the best or anything and it did get really easy after a bit. I only played it that much cause it was portable and I was on the bus alot. My favorite would have to be FE5 cause of difficulty.

Obviously, playing on the hardest difficult is a good option, but I'm just saying that normal was waaaay too easy to be called "normal". They built up Camus to be some ridiculous badass and my Cain/Abel just roflstomped him easily.
Oh yea. Not saying that it was the best or anything and it did get really easy after a bit. I only played it that much cause it was portable and I was on the bus alot. My favorite would have to be FE5 cause of difficulty.
Yeah, portability helps a ton. I had a lot of fun trying to slog through the highest difficulty mode, but never quite got too far. Does anyone know if the enemy stats in the highest difficulty actually go above 30? I might go back for the challenge if that's the case.
The Greil Mercenaries are kinda overpowered but Micaiah's party vastly underpowered due to low levels.
What is really funny to me is that I took into the tower 5 Dawn People just because they are so good if they are leveled. It would have been 6 but I got majorly RNG screwed with Nolan. His strength was lower than Laura's(I always BEXP her)
I bought the first english Fire Emblem for the GBA on little more then the box art and my god did i love that game. But when i played it it was pretty young and not used to games fucking you over.
How could i possibly know that super strong paladin character was leeching exp wich made my party so weak that they literally could not clear the game (final map was a bitch).
Later i replayed it and managed to clear it after realising that the paladin sucked. But those devs are really fucking rude. Not only does every fire emblem have a damn pre-classed character like this Marcus, but in every game they also suck major balls so every bit of exp they steal is wasted. Purely designed to fuck over new players no doubt.
Still, i can't help but love the series and i have played every translated fire emblem. I still love the Swordmaster and Assasin classes, especially their crit animations. The only thing i don't like is how the sprites from the GBA games are way cooler then all the other games.
The Wii and DS graphics are just ugly imo whilst the sprites from the GBA breathed style.
very much enjoyed FE6, one summer i pretty much played the entire series, just chain played it through the summer.
Easily one of my favorite games ever

Didnt know about this either, but once i learned about the Jeigan character i usually just kept them at the start of the map and didnt even move them.
I think the only exception was Seth from FE8(despite that being one of the easier games) he was pretty legit
This is easily my favourite GBA series, FE8 was my first GBA game ever. I played FE7 next but I never got around to playing FE6. I played this series alot but i don't remember what "RNG" means

Random number generated.
Basically means that the stats your character receives are random, altough slightly hinted towards certain outcomes.
This makes some characters generally grow better then others but at the same time it creates situations where through sheer luck some characters end up sucking because they keep getting the wrong stats.

It's how they shit on you with the starting promoted character.
Good stats with like 10% chance to level a stat and basically fuck you over if you use them.
I've had some terrible luck with some of the starting characters too though(Lyn @ Fe7 a time or two..)
Ive played 2 of them for gba? The level up system is dumb. You can get unlucky and keep leveling will little stat gains. In this sense, you could have characters 3 levels higher with lower stats. Otherwise a great game with nice character classes.
After reading more posts, I take it this is the main problem with the game. It should be fixed.
My first Fire Emblem was Path of Radiance and I loved it. Borrowed Radiant Dawn and played FE7 and 8 on emulators afterwards but didn't finish them. Great series as far as I'm concerned even if I have little experience with it.
I love Fire Emblem so much. One of my favourite game series. I've beaten FE7 so many times. I've only played from FE6 onward though (inc. the DS remake of 1). 6 is pretty damn hard but so satisfying when you beat a chapter. I even downloaded an emulator on my phone so I can play Fire Emblem 6-8 whenever I want :D
Played 6-8 for the GBA, and 11 and 12 for the DS. Haven't gotten around to 9 or 10 since no one I know has a Gamecube/Wii.
I think 6 was the hardest for the ones I've played, followed by Lunatic Reverse for 12 and Hector Hard mode for 7. Reason why I didn't put Lunatic Reverse for 12 at top was because of the "My Character feature". If you knew what class to start as and when to class change, you have an instant "I Win" button at your disposal.
Played a silly amount of time on the GBA series back in the day. I haven't played any of the DS GC or Wii ones though because I didn't bother buying any of those systems. Its a shame because I really liked them. They were very hard especially if you tried to get a "perfect" game and not let anyone die.... man I nearly threw my GBA a few times over that one -_-;
Only played FE8, it was pretty fun game but somehow I found it hard- which embarrasses me as general consensus seem to be that FE8 is one of the easiest from the series. Never had chance to try out others =/
Nevertheless lol at this
[Fire Emblem series] are all incredibly fun games that for some reason always fly under the radar.
Haha @ people who got screwed over by Marcus. The funniest thing is that they troll you in the Sacred Stones by actually giving the "Jeigan" character (Seth) actually good stat growths. He still saps XP early on, but if you actually level him up, he's pretty good.
Oh, and Hesmyrr, definitely check out FE4 and FE5 - you can get a SNES emulator and find them pretty easily - no guilt because they've never been released in the US, either (And they both have english patches that are easily found) FE6 and FE7 are also perfectly within reach if you don't have qualms with pirating them (FE6 wasn't even released in the US either, also having an english patch, so I don't see pirating it as a big deal, but a used copy of FE7 should be nice and cheap).
On August 10 2011 03:24 Hesmyrr wrote: Which series do you recommend? I don't think I will have time to play them all when I have time to do so.
That's a hard question since they're so good. FE4 and FE5 are definitely more unique - FE4 only has about 10 stages, but each stage has many different points you need to capture, the maps are huge, and it has a very interesting mechanic in which you need to pair characters strategically because you'll use their children in the second half of the game, and the stat growths of their children are determined by who you pair together (alternative, you could pair nobody and then you'd get shitty substitute characters instead of the awesome children). FE5 is extremely difficult but it's quite rewarding, and it has an item stealing system that I really enjoy. However, I don't really recall the translation patches for either game being all that good, though, there could be new versions out by now. FE4 and FE5 are also both related by story - FE5 is more of a sidestory to FE4.
FE6 and FE7 are related in that FE7 is a prequel to FE6, oddly enough. They're also both great games, but their mechanics are, in my opinion, less unique than FE4 and FE5's. If you've played FE8 before then you'll feel right at home, though, so if you're limited on time and don't want to figure too many things out, then definitely check out FE6 and FE7, especially since the translation patch for FE6 was, IIRC, a lot better than the ones for FE4 and FE5.
If you ever get a Wii, then DEFINITELY check out FE9 and FE10 (that's Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn) because those are, in my opinion, my favorite FEs out of them all.
In conclusion, FE6 and FE7 would probably suit you the most because they'd be the most familiar, and you can play FE7 portably, though, you'd probably have to use an emulator on your computer for FE6 if you want to play it in english. But if FE4 and FE5 sound intriguing to you then definitely check those out! Just depends on what you want - familiarity or something really different.
I really wish they would bring back that mechanic^
make it something where you have 2 halves of the game and characters with an "A" support relationship who are of the opposite sex should have kids. That would be sick. Also I really like the idea of the dismount. That would be a fun feature in a new game.
Dismounting isn't very fun - I believe only FE5 had it - as your characters would suck after dismounting. Their stats would drop and they would be forced to use swords. There are a few stages where you would be forced to dismount too (indoors)...
Well I meant if it was a cooler sort of mechanic. something that doesn't nerf everything. Like say it lowers strength but raises skill and speed. Or If you have a certain number of horses and horses posses the canto ability, so before a level you outfit certain characters to be mounted.
I was thinking more along the lines of that. Strategic tradeoff
Love these games so much, I'm the type of person that only plays non-multiplayer games once, twice if it's godly, but every now and then i'll break out the gba cartridge and play some of these masterpieces, i'm probably on 5 playthroughs of the 2 gba games and 2 on the DS game.(Havent had a chance to play older or newer versions sadly :/) If you haven't played these, go and do it now.
I've played through FE 7, FE 8, FE 9, and FE 11 as described in the OP. I'm glad to see fire emblem get some loving on TL. It's definitely one of my favorite series. Permadeath was one of the most amazing things about it, as it made you really think through every move.
Best fire emblem I've played?
FE7: good enough for Nintendo to finally port the series to the U.S. Enough said.
Best character?
Ike. Total baller. Can practically solo the later stages of the game.
So I just started playing FE6, I never even heard of this series until this post. And first off let me THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!! I mean I played FFtactics and stuff but, imo this is waaay more enthralling. Characters being able to be destroyed @ a whim brings a level of intensity that is exciting, the combat strats are very fun, and I really like the town and trading/shopping system, it makes every map feel epic, and really makes you wana get all the goodies it has to offer =p. So I just wanted to say a big thanks to this thread for showing me an old school rpg that is FKING SICKKKKKKKK! TYTYTYTYTY! Newayz back to act 5!
i remember buying fe8 out of nowhere cause the box looked really fun. turns out that i bought one of the most addicting games ive ever played in my life.
since then, i played all the recent fire emblems that came after the 8th, but i havent bothered to try out the old ones yet.
If only fire emblem was for the computer....... I loved FE8, best ever imo. Instead of fire emblem, I've started to play the Battle for Wesnoth...which isn't as good.
Is the gamecube version of Fire Emblem good? I'm not really digging the 3d stuff though.
Ummm.... @ above they are called emulators. You can get every single one I believe besides Radiant Dawn on the computer. The Gamecube version is very epic. I loved it. if you don't like the 3D it is pretty easy to change animations. That's what I did.
On August 10 2011 07:09 NationInArms wrote: I know about emulators, but I'm talking about a FE made specifically for the computer. I think Radiant Dawn is only for the Wii.
OOOH I gotcha. That would actually be really cool now that you mention it. If they did that they had better include a clickable minimap though lol. I have been asking for that for ever.

Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are EXCELLENT in my opinion. Great music, great characters. The animations in PoR look a bit lame, but in Radiant Dawn they're superb. Also, Haar. Fucking Haar.
Also, the Black Knight is one of my favorite video game villains just because his character design is so damn good. Not to mention his theme is ridiculously epic.
God I love the Black Knight. I don't want to spoiler why I love him more. On a related note, the most disappointing thing about PoR was Petrine if you ask me. Her music was also amazing.(Deep Walking Bass of Death) But when it came down to the battle it just wasn't as epic as it could have been. Unlike with the other 4 Riders.
I think most people prefer 7 over 6 is for the fact that it was not released outside of Japan. I somehow managed to get the rom translated and imo it was much better than 7.
Beat FE6, 7, 8, skipped 9 (no gamecube lol), beat RD on a friend's wii. All baller-mode games for sure.
A long time ago, I played an SNES FE (I think it was 5? You start off with a high level female swordmaster "Jeigen" in your team) and I got to a prison stage where you had to escape. Well, unfortunately for me, I only sent my lord to the exit, beating the stage, saved, and suddenly ended up in a gaiden stage where you only keep members who have "escaped". Meaning I only had my lord with a sword and a half for that level. Biggest FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- moment ever!
LOL I just found my old Sacred Stones cartridge!!!!!!!!
I can't believe how awful I was lol. I'm at the final chapter on easy mode and i only have 2 units. Emphraim and Eirika. Their stats are really low though, because neither can even use their braces ROFL!!
On August 10 2011 07:43 Lightswarm wrote: I think most people prefer 7 over 6 is for the fact that it was not released outside of Japan. I somehow managed to get the rom translated and imo it was much better than 7.
I know people appreciate 6 for its challenging aspect, but come on! Every single freakin' level is "Seize the throne" (although one level is admittedly creative with multiple fake thrones) and if you miss ANY gaiden chapter, you miss out on the final stages and true ending!
This means that he is insanely overleveled in the early game but his stats really suck. I like to call these characters EXP whores.
I implore you to hide him somewhere off in the side of them map away from all enemies. Depending on how early you are and what difficulty you are on, you may want to consider restarting
IMO, you haven't played fe until you've tried FE5. That was the first game that made me break something lol. There's a meme of a map floating around somewhere..
FE6 really need to be played with a guide just so you don't miss a single extra stage, or else you'll get the crappy incomplete ending. Happened to me my first time through >_<
I regret making this stupid thread. I have summer work that needs to be done by next week, and I can't stop playing Fire Emblems!
And yes, that is very cruel of Intelligent Systems. It would be really nice if there would be some clue in the in between convos. But, all it ever really takes is an Alt-Tab and quick Google search.
If someone could please post a link to a good ROM site or at least say the best place I will edit it in to the OP. Thanks so much!
I kinda doubt this is allowed here.
Anyway, is the Fire Emblem on the DS any good? Will I get the story eventhough I never touched one of those games before? The Wii game would be an alternative (and of course everything i can play on PC emulators) but honestly I'd prefer the DS one.... as long as it doesn't have any big drawbacks compared to the other ones.
It is not my favorite, but many people like it. If you have a Wii, get either Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance or Fire Emblem:Radiant Dawn. I like the stories much more and they are longer.
It is personal preference.
And why aren't the ROMs allowed? If we just name them that wouldn't violate anything. I'll contact a MOD
KK I Restarted thanks for the heads up Juddas =p I would have never know about Marcus lol. It's my first FE game. Im the kind of person who likes to play though legit. But that would of hurt me so bad, ty!
I don't think so? I think technically they are video-capturing software(or at least that is how they are legal)
but this is speculation
Ok I just searched and it seems that if the Software is no longer in production, it is perfectly fine. This means that all the FE's besides Radiant Dawn and Shadow Dragon are perfectly fine and classified as Abandonware
but there are conflicting stories, but I am making the final desicion they are legal . I have been downloading ROMs for years and belong to many sites that endorse this stuff and no one has ever been prosecuted

The more you play these the more you realize how much each enemy matters for EXP purposes. And I admire that legit playthrough though lol. Props to you

Marcus is what we call a Jaigen?
This means that he is insanely overleveled in the early game but his stats really suck. I like to call these characters EXP whores.

Doesn't stop Marcus from being able to solo all of FE7.
Jeigans are pretty useful (apart from Jeigan himself) and most have some great usage as meatshields and such. Also important on harder difficulties for rescuing etc.
FE6 Marcus is really awful after a few chapters, but he's pretty much a necessity on hard mode.
Well yes he is necessary for completion, but it is best to use him as little as possible, as with all Jaigens. That doesn't stop the fact that he eats so much EXP whenever they solo a chapter.
I love these games, but I often get very frustrated with them because my motto is that no man is left behind... if someone dies, restart the level. It's always that 1% crit chance at the very end of the level...
You will need to use Marcus for a bit in FE6 Hard mode though, at least for the early part. He's the only one that can use that silver lance to do just enough damage to not kill enemies outright, allowing other units to get the kills and subsequently the EXP.
Alternatively, you can just strip him of weapons and use him as a bait/meatshield, like other Jeigans.
Oifayes, however a different case, they sap up experience early, but have good growths to justify using them later on the game. Examples include + Show Spoiler +
Oifaye in the 2nd half of FE4,
Seth from FE8 and Titania FE9, slightly less in 10.
I am one of the biggest fan of FE since I played FE3(remake of FE1) and FE4 on SNES more than 10 years ago. But I am quite dissapointed where the FE series is heading rightnow, since the original have left quite a long time ago. FE3 and FE4 will forever be my favourite in the series!!!
FE4 will forever be the most unique and enjoyable FE. I don't think Nintendo can top that anytime soon. The game is divided into two parts with a great story and mechanic. I mean you can play the first part and decide who marry who and their siblings will turn out difference in the 2nd part of the game. Thats just fantastic and got enormous replay value. If some of you guys think that FE7 is the best but never played FE4, just play it, there is a very good translation ROM out there. Too bad it never got officially release in the English world.
I didn't know about the BEXP system in 10 and I almost ruined my best people with BEXP. I only use that system when I max out the more important stats on certain characters
Mainly if Aran doesn't get any speed, he will max out quickly on defense, strength and skill and then BEXP will up his speed hopefully.
On August 10 2011 10:14 LunaSaint wrote: FE10's system is hilarious though. <3
You can even make Fiona and Meg really good with the bonus exp system.
Seth is ridiculously good !
And yeah, 1% crits are so frustrating. Moreso when its your own character critting enemy after enemy when they cant afford to take more hits.
Yeah, that BEXP that guarantees 3 stats regardless can break characters pretty easily with a couple of favorable level-up gains, though the scarcity of BEXP(and regular EXP for that matter) on higher difficulties like Hard Mode make it tough to abuse the system there.
Especially when we are talking about characters like Meg and Fiona which you get at very bad times. Meg gets mauled, and quite likely 1-rounded by + Show Spoiler +
Fuuuuu I hate Pegasus Knights, they're my most hated class even though some people love them, but I despise their fragileness. I've been trying to level up Vanessa in FE8 in Chapter 5's arena and having to start the game over and over again because of either some harmless looking unit like a mage or soldier killing her.
"Haha, she can probably handle this ezpz no problem" *Vanessa misses target with 87% hit chance* "......fuck."
On my last playthrough of 10 (as in 3? days ago) I forced myself to not use any BEXP. It's actually not that hard. Another goal was to not let anyone died. Almost. 4 deaths and they were all in Part IV
WOOOO I was in love with FE 9 and 10 for the longest time lol. But I really wished that there was a PvP mode, where my characters could battle my friends' characters.
You don't train Fiona and Meg, they jack too much EXP from Edward. And Edward owns way too hard to be denied any EXP.

Hmm, you're not nearly as paranoid as I am, then. When I'm leveling in an arena, as soon as there's even a remote chance that I'll die, I yield. It's probably because I've been screwed over too many times by random crits and such.
Sacred Stones was fun though, with its abusable RNG. It's pretty cool when everyone has a move of 15.
Tips for Moochlol: Marcus sucks. But I'm sure you know that now Zealot is even worse. Don't use him. In fact, most of the prepromoted characters suck. Don't bother with them. Chad maxes out at 20 having no promotion, but his growths are quite good and he's the best thief, so you might as well max him.
Notably good characters (they objectively have pretty good/great growths and I've also been able to consistently do well in the game with them): Allen and Lance (neither were particularly amazing for me, but both were very solid) Lugh Clarine Rutger Thany (if you notice you're started to get Str screwed - if she starts doing no damage to anyone, I advise you to drop her) Wendy Oujay Fir (also if you don't get Str screwed - same note as Thany - they're both awesome if they don't get Str screwed) Geese Gonzales (he's really good in 10A, sucks in 10B - google how to get either) Tate Ray Sophia (really hard to train, but good if you're patient) Miredy Zeiss Fa Karel

Yeah, I'm going to have to be even more paranoid with her the next time I boot up the game; I've learned my lesson the hard way lmfao. For some reason I leveled up Thany in FE6 just fine in the arena without having to worry so much, but Vanessa seems to get killed left and right compared to her... I am going to replace Vanessa with Tana ASAP then when I get to Chapter 9 lol.

Ah...I am a major fan of the series. Fire Emblem 4 and Tharcia have been my favorite in terms of gameplay and story due to the enormous battles and it is not unusual to see more than 100 units deployed on the field at once and the mating system. Oh my God...that was so epic. That is why I am not as big of the more recent titles. I also even considered making a Medieval Total War 2 mod for Fire Emblem 4. I still have everything figured out for each faction...but I was just too lazy to start on it.
I loved the FE 10 and 11 series. The characters were great and the Laguz kingdoms were kick ass. My personal favorite characters were Ranulf, Ike, Haar, (The green haired swordsmaster who's name escapes me from FE 10) and of course Tibarn. The storyline was pretty good I thought although FE 11 was a little ehh imo. However, these games are my favorite mostly because they were my first turned based strategy games. Got me into the series and I couldn't be happier about it.
A tip for the Arena is to reset when you see your character going up against an unfavorable opponent like a lance user vs an axe user as they will preview it with "level 14 pirate" or something before the battle actually starts. This saves money and prevents you from losing your character in unlucky 1 turn deaths vs characters that have crits. However it saves the order of fighters for ex:
Peg Knight Hero vs lvl 14 pirate, reset the game since it's a bad matchup Re enter the arena and say no to the first fight since it will be the same lvl 14 pirate Enter the arena again and it will be another character If it's another unfavorable matchup say no twice for a new enemy
Helpful vs Swordmasters and especially Berserkers who can hit although rarely with a crit.
For the FE 4 players...who thinks that Leaf was 100 percent broken when promoted? In Thracia, he was able to hold off 20-30 wyverns, plus the bosses and still had plenty of HP left.

You sure you're playing the same Thracia/FE5? Cause 20-30 wyverns gives me shivers even for a whole party. Leaf in FE4 is insane, due to Master Knight class and lol I can use almost every single weapon, barring Holy ones. Though to be fair, many characters can be absolutely broken if you do it right the in the 1st Gen.
For example, 70++ HP Faval with the Ichieval, Mounted Holsety user, Sety with Holsety[Just add speed ring and enemies hit percentage can fall to 0, lol] amongst others.

The storyline was pretty good I thought although FE 11 was a little ehh imo. However, these games are my favorite mostly because they were my first turned based strategy games. Got me into the series and I couldn't be happier about it.
The green haired swordmaster you're thinking of is Stefan

You sure you're playing the same Thracia/FE5? Cause 20-30 wyverns gives me shivers even for a whole party. Leaf in FE4 is insane, due to Master Knight class and lol I can use almost every single weapon, barring Holy ones. Though to be fair, many characters can be absolutely broken if you do it right the in the 1st Gen.

Any character in FE4 with a legendary weapon is broken in my eyes. I thought +5 stat bonuses were pretty nice in FE7, then I tried FE4, lol'd at the +20 +10 stat bonuses on the legendaries there, threw Holsety on Levin and watched him never, ever get hit.

Enjoy!
My last play through of FE6, i made sure to good good Gonzales, and truthfully i recommend leveling both him + Geese. In one of the later chapters, i think took place at night(i think?) i used those 2 + another and they can hold off endless Wyvern etc, reinforcements. its quite ridiculous.
Not to mention they'll sit on 60 health most of the time, and kill nearly everything in one hit. +! I think Berserkers get 30% extra crit or something when they get promoted. If you decide to get the good Gonzales, make sure to bring an axe for him since he starts out equipped with the Devil axe iirc(its bad)
Also, like HolyArrow said make sure you max out one of the Thieves you get(i think its 6 atleast..) that its required to have 1 Thief later in the game for some purpose(high dodge+ decent damage) to get chests and good weapons and the like.
UGHH This thread popping up like made it my goal to replay FE6+7.
I love Fire Emblem so much! I can still remember the first time I played FE7 as my first FE game ever. So epic! Then I lost the cartridge and only recently I replayed it on an emulator. Still as good as it was in my memories :p
hey! if someone reading this thread is looking for the translated roms as i was, here's where i found them: (i recommend skipping the NES in favor of SNES)
Had to restart a couple chapters like 3 times, enemy units wont move to attack units at full health (even when in range) but will always move in for the kill when they're low health.
amazing game started with the first gba game (japanese one. sealed sword not blazing sword) played all three japanese gba games and played the wii and gc games
the ds remakes were great as well. too bad the second ds one is not localized
Most of the time, when I get a game of any appreciable length, I lose interest before I end up beating it (FFs are classic examples, where I get like 25hrs in then beat it a year later cause I got bored). That never happened with FE9 and 10. They are easily some of my favorite games of all time, and also some of the most underrated IMO. I tried playing the GBA ones, but I never really got into them the same way I did for 9 and 10 for some reason.
So here's the real question folks, who's the best of the main characters from all the games?
I'm tempted to go with Ike off the top of my head, but I know there was at least one other who could give him a run for his money that I just can't remember right now.

Stat and class wise, hes probably one of the most "broken" in any FE game, other than I guess tier 3s in FE10. But, this is FE4 we are talking about. "Broken" comes from Legendary Weapons. Leaf's stats might be crazy, but he just doesn't have a Legendary Weapon to compete with the other crazy people.
Fire Emblem brings back memories. Years ago, Harem (the banling here) and myself used to run a relatively large FE Forum, which has since died. The more you talk about FE, the more you start it dislike it. FE debates were the bane of the fandom. Because of them, I've been condititioned to look at some of the advise given in this thread, and think "Are you serious? Wendy a good character? Where is Dieck? GL on Hard Mode without your Jeigans LOL" etc etc, rather than just enjoy a good FE talk
I've completed FE4/6/7/8/9/10. All the ones translated into english, other than the DS one (don't care), and FE5 (never cared to mess with the translation, since iirc it was incomplete at the time when I cared). Overall, I think FE4 had the best story, FE6 I played the most, and FE9 was my favorite overall. Also FE8 is bad and too easy.

Its impossible to say a character from one game is better than a character in another game. They are completely independent from each other. Its only possible to compare characters within the same game. If you are looking at stats though, it would have to be someone from FE4 or FE10.

well Hector is a little debatable, but I don't think it is Mist. I think she may be the best hearler, but i might not even got that far.
lol what criteria are you guys even using to compare these characters?
The only site i saw with a comparison escapes me, but it was mostly taken an average of like 25 or something play through s and comparing the final stats between each character of every class, and using that to determine who was the best of that particular class.
well my particular criteria would be something like
overall usefulness (mobility, range, weapon types, weapon skills) not going to die if attacked (defense, speed, HP) ability to attack successfully (skill and speed and strength) Growth rates time of recruitment( how much exp is needed to make good unit) abilities
^ this may be flawed because an armored unit will not be likely to get it, healer, a mage is less likely
another reason this could be flawed is that is favors wyrven knight type characters, so maybe I'm just a softy for the flying dragon things.

This is all imo of course
I can't stand wyverns or my little pony pegasus, even when i bother to level them they feel weak. Nice to snipe certain units but they get raped hard by archers wich would be what i would want to use them for most of the time.
IMO a character considered "best" would have to be from FE4 or FE10. FE4 because the legendary weapons are completely and utterly BROKEN in that game, some adding +20 to one stat and +10 to another stat, and in a game where the highest stat cap is 30, that means you can have 50 of a stat, not to mention that certain abilities in that game can stack and give a character well over 10 consecutive attacks.
FE10 because the way BEXP works, you can just completely max someone out so they have zero weaknesses - for example, I can make Haar even more ridiculous than he already is, and Haar can easily solo maps.
FE4 characters probably take the cake, though. It's just unbelievable how broken some of the mechanics in that game were, but it's what made it very memorable and awesome for me.

Stat averages are simply math. Just take growth rates, how many levels they can gain, base stats, promotion bonus, etc and you can find out what their average stats will be at any level.
I personally don't consider 20/20 stats to justify who the "best" character is, but like I said it just depends on criteria. A character who has great 20/20 stats could come just a few levels before the end of the game, and therefore be absoluetely worthless in a Hard Mode Ranked run. While prepromotes who come early are much more useful in helping you complete early, difficult missions.
20/20 stats also don't factor in class utility either. Like for example, I don't care what stats your Archer in non-FE10 has, they are bad. But a Paladin or Sage with those same stats would be godly.
But if we are just talking about 20/20 stats, Hector isn't even the best FE character ever. It would have to be some crazy second generation character from FE4 (like Sety, Leaf, or Lakche). FE4 is full of absolutely broken, monstrous units, not to mention the people who get Holy Weapons get a total of +30 Stats (allowing them to pass their stat caps), in addition to really high attack power. If we get into FE10 Tier 3 units, those guys have stats that go over 30, which is higher than the max of any previous game.

Assassins>Swordmasters>Summoner from FE8>Hero> General> Berserker
^ is the correct GBA awesomeness hierarchy
To clarify on the summoner part, Against Valter on Scorched Sand, or any hard boss, you can use a summoner to summon 20 minions or whatever they are called. Then just send them in and break the boss' level + 2 free levels!!!! Then just send in whatever unit you have that does like 1 damage and repeat for infinite EXP! Arena abuse can suck my balls.
And they just look sick + dark mages rock. Flux FTW
Look guys, I think assassins are just as cool as the next guy. I even made a bunch of FE Fight animations back in the day involving Assassins being awesome like these: + Show Spoiler +
But Assassins are bad. Its a really bad class. Locked into swords, really bad stat caps, etc etc.
The best class in most games is the Paladin. Mounted, good caps, total weapon triangle control, etc. Sages come in next. Then things like Heros/Wyverns/Generals. Swordmaster is a class that in a vacuum isn't very good, it just happens to have alot of good characters in it. Master Knight in FE4 is however the best Tier 2 class in any game by alot though lol.

Master Knights are crazy. They have like 80 HP cap, straight 27 stat caps, like 10 MOV, can move after attacking, and can use every single weapon type in the game other than shadow magic. Too good.

They are cool, I agree. But SKL is a stat that you only need a certain amount of, because with the way the RNG works, most characters can achieve 100% actual hit with just a modest amount of SKL, considering enemy units don't dodge well (even on Hard Mode). SPD is the best stat in the game, and they do have alot of it, which is good. But thats virtually the only thing they have. Lethality's activation rate is so low and overkill its almost a non factor.

Are you kidding me? Snipers are terrible lol. Rath is better simply because he eventually gets swords, which makes him marginally better than other archers.
The reason people say snipers are good is because they are excellent bait with their usually high speed and luck stats. Then they have a crazy crit rate with 100% accuracy most of them time. It is a personal preference. I think I may have been RNG screwed earlier on though because my Wil is awful. And yes I'm talking Lyn's story

Saying that "Snipers are broken as fuck" is alot different from saying "I like snipers". I can go into it in loldetail if you want me to, but I can give a pretty strong argument that lack of a range 1 attack makes the class pretty terrible. If you just meant that you like snipers, thats fine, I just think its crazy to say that the class is actually a good class, or even close to broken.

I believe you're talking about GoldieX39 average stat's special over on Youtube.
The thing is this, she hacked the game to give Mist the magic swords, i.e. the swords that runs off Mist's magic stat, which I probably agree is how it should have been.
However, the ingame mechanic, at least in FE10 is that Mist's attack does damage according to her strength stat, which is unfortunately very low in comparison, even if you BEXP her, her strength cap is around 25, which makes the problem of Mist damaging her enemies, especially in the later stages a problem. Although she is a healer on a horse which increases mobility though.
EDIT: I am an idiot, if you train up Mist's sword rank up, it's possible to give her a sword that helps boosts her attack stat to a point she can do a fair bit of damage in the endgame.
^ she also of course has Florete, and you can buy another one later, maybe even more than one, but still, I agree, she doesn't do much damage in 10. I think she may have been nerfed from 9, that I am not sure because I could never keep her alive. She is useless until she is a Valkyrie
FE8 Sacred Stones is one of my all time favorite games. I played that so much. Only complaint about FE is that your stat gains are randomized when you level so it's not possible to get the best possible characters without many many playthroughs.
I played FE7 on the GBA and I liked it a lot. Which one would you guys recommend to play next? I tried the first few chapters of FE8 and it was a bit slow, but so was FE7 and I liked it a lot. I can't read Japanese so I'd appreciate it if you guys could link some translated versions of roms to me

BTW: get version 2.6a thats the one that has save states and all the features and benefits you associate with a good emulator.

Installing translation patches are pretty easy. All of them all involve just putting in the patch file with the rom file, and it'll all work automatically. Google is also your friend because I'm feeling too lazy to search for them, but maybe someone else will help you out if you're feeling too lazy as well

FE6 has complete english patch. FE7 is a prequel to 6, and Roy is the main character. If you already played the other GBA FE games, you should feel right at home with it. FE4 is also mostly translated, other than like some epilogue stuff when I played it. I think FE5 has a translation patch too, but IDK how much is translated.
I love snipers because of their slick GBA animation, but they're generally a bad class as they can't counter and need a lot of attention to keep up in exp. Usually whenever I start romhacking I throw in a 1-2 range bow and give snipers crit boosts to compensate (then cry when I realise I put enemy snipers in before chapter 10 and they me to reset a couple times).
Personal favourite class is Warrior, but I'd say Wyvern Lords, Berserkers, Heroes and Generals are the best. Paladins too, but mine always get RNG screwed outside of FE9/10. But that's just personal experience, and shouldn't count.
You know what a really fun class is? The Bishops from FE8. When so many of the battles were against monsters you couldn't be beat.
That was actually my favorite thing about FE8 I think. The ability to choose which class. I really miss that to be honest. I put a lot of thought into those decisions. I think the hardest one was Joshua to Assassin or Swordmaster

I always went Swordmaster. The gains were better, in my opinion and he has a really good chance of getting past the strength cap that Assassins have. Plus, in terms of passive abilities, +15% crit rate is better in my opinion since it works 100% of the time whereas Silencer is half as good as your crit rate.
But the class change system is awesome. That's my favorite part of 11 and 12.

Really? I never had problems with monsters in FE8. FE8 is notoriously easy, compared to harder games like FE6 (lol the Wyverns and shit in FE6...)
I played the Wii one, but how the characters worked was stupid. Characters might show up for 2 levels then reappear 10 later way underpowered.
edit: Wii one was called Radiant Dawn. I did like the, {if they die, they're dead" rule, but the game boiled down to never letting your guys get one-turned ( ie never letting a support class get hit ), so you always had to advance like a terran stuck at 40 scvs against a maxed zerg. A little redundant.

I never had any problems with the monsters, but one hitting them was the shiznit. Also, FE8 is only easy if you abuse the system i.e. tower and ruins/ mass skirmish. It is actually pretty difficult imo if you don't visit those places at all. You might want to try it

Well the Tower makes the game a joke, but I'm just talking about completing the game without worrying about those extra places. Hard Mode in FE8 is nothing compared to FE6 Hard Mode, or Hector Hard Mode in FE7. Reason being is that the overall level of your units in FE8 are alot better, and Seth is kinda crazy given his stats, bases, and join time lol

Not really, never found FE8 to be difficult at all, without even using the tower/arenas/abusing skirmish maps at all. Most of the characters in FE8 are easy to use, have ridiculously good growths in comparison to other Fire Emblem games, and the enemies are just not that threatening most of the time. The only problem chapter I've considered to be a pain in FE8 is the boat one, and that's only on Hard Mode.
I suppose you have a point there sir(s) about the difficulty. i still like the class change system better. A tree also seems more realistic if anything.
Fighter(X) can go to Hero(X/S) or Warrior(X/B) mercanary(S) can go to Hunter(S/B) or Hero(X/S) Archer(B) can go Hunter(S/B) or Sniper(B)
idk seemed better to me and I really like the trade-offs of each class like skill vs new weapon and mounted(as in above)
EDIT:Also I wish they brought back the trainee's lol
Yeah i just started a new playthrough today on FE7, and apparently you have to start in normal mode... >: but I came to the revelation that I really don't like Eliwood. And for the record, his attack animation looks stupid.
On August 11 2011 14:03 Blitzkrieg0 wrote: So do people like hector more than eliwood because his hard mode was so hard or is there some other reason?
Hes a better unit, and people consider his character much more likable.
I have an irrational hatred of axe users or something, but I always liked Eliwood more than Hector. Not sure why I don't like axe users, but I suspect it's because they tend to miss a lot more.
Of course, I voted for Lyn because she's a bad ass so
Yeah I'm the same way about Axe people. I think it is just because they never seem to have enough hit percentage, and they are slowish(usually) But I just don't like Eliwood. He is more of a coinflip than PvP(see what i did there)
and seriously, what kind of regular attack it this? I like the crit, but for some reason he looks like he stabs himself, then breaks his wrist on the other guy.
Other than a few people with hit issues, I can't imagine you guys actually having alot of accuracy issues with units in this game. Lets see if I can try to explain...
Lets say the game says a unit has 70% Hit Rate. Because of the RNG, that 70% is actually alot closer to 100% than it says. The way the RNG works, is it generates 2 random numbers, and then averages them together. So your 70% hit is in actually 82% or something. Below 50% it works the other way, as it approaches 0 down there. True Hit% is explained in detail here.
Supports also help out alot. In theory, when you are playing, you should try to have a support chain with all your guys. Not everyone gets hit% out of supports, but some do.
Finally, it could just be a weapon triangle thing. And lucky for Axes, Lances tend to be the most common enemy weapon.
Umm... the 2 number RNG is only in PoR and Radiant Dawn iirc. i think all others only use one.
And secondly, I don't normally have accuracy problems but I can think back to a few times when I have missed with 95% accuracy and then died because he hit me with 56%
Can this article be trusted because I read on the wikia the other day that it is only in those new ones, but it was the same general idea.

No, the GBA ones are double RNG as well. The SNES ones and before run on single RNG.

Serenes Forest by far the most trustworthy Fire Emblem source out there. Like I mentioned earlier, I used to run a Fire Emblem forum (3rd Largest English speaking forum at the time), and this was well known since then. FE6 through current ones use that same system. The 2 RN system is fact.

Yeah, when arguing about FE stuff, now days you really only need 2 things: FEA for non-FE7 stat averages, and Serenes Forest for everything else.
It isn't official, but then again Nintendo would never make an official FE resource like that, and its not like Wikipedia is official either. If anything, since anyone can edit the wiki, it isn't as trustworthy as Serenes Forest. That said, I haven't ever looked through the wiki, so IDK about its quality.
i absolutely love fire emblem i bought the first american game when i was like 7 and i got complete addicted to it. i dont even remember why i bought it except for the fact that the box looked really badass. i was SO bad at the game too because i always used prepromoted heroes. i now have every game which has been released in english and i think sacred stones was my favorite despite it being very easy. not only was the gameplay great, but the animation, story, and even the music was kickass this was my favorite song in fire emblem:

On a completely unrelated note, Wil or Rath in FE7?
for a while it was Wil but I'm sort of feeling Rath
Rath IMO. More mobile, can use swords upon promotion.
Both are kinda meh IMO. I once had a decent Rath but in the last battles he still was the weakest guy in my team.
Really? Like I said earlier, I have ditched Wil for Rath but now of course I am in Eliwood mode so I have no options except for Rebeccca. Is she the best? Who do you use for that game archer-wise

Yep Rebecca is the best IMO. She can be a pain to level tho. I usually went for her or some sniper girl that joins much later (surprisingly good for an already promoted character)... Or no sniper at all xd
I like me some of those promoted axe-bow users. Longbow makes up for their bad mobility. But this is totally personal preference because I love axe users.

Get a Warrior and use them as your archer if you REALLY need a bow. Honestly, I don't see why people think they NEED an archer.

Pretty much. Axes are generally the best weapons in the game, and Magic, Hand Axes and Javelins are usually good enough for you not to need archers at all.

Plus you are pretty much forced to use Lyn in Hector/Eliwood modes, and she gets a bow on promotion too, so you do have guaranteed bow support. Not like you really need it though, since the bow is just another source of physical damage, that happens to be weaker than both lances and axes.
I usually don't feel I need a bow, especially since I tend to keep a lot of mages. Umm... Bartre or Dorcas.
Wrong. Neither. I hate them both because neither one can hit anything. And why on earth would they give you 3 axe users within 2 levels. That is silly.

I am of course referring to Early Eliwood mode.
Dorcas isn't THAT bad. Bartre sucks though. Also, if you are doing Hard Mode, Geitz is like a million times better than Wallace, since he gets Hard Mode bonus.
Though Sacred Stones was probably the easiest of the series, I did like that the game gave you 2 options for when your class change. It would of been nicer if one option wasn't always insanely better than the other one. Who in their right mind would change Joshua in an assassin over a Sword master? Or Gerik into a Ranger over a Hero?
On an unrelated note, I've always hated how needed Serra and Priscilla are (and how much better they are than other mages -_-), cause I've always hated both of them lol.

Erk is like one of the best units in the game iirc, and Pent is amazing considering that he requires no effort at all to use. Its been a while since I've actually paid attention to the people who make Hard Mode tier lists lol

Erk and Pent are both pretty good, and Pent is kinda required for a couple levels right after you get him, but Priscilla and Serra, IIRC, still blow everyone else out of the water in terms of tier list. Pretty sure they're right under Marcus at the top by most lists lol.

Well, like I've said, its been a while, and I do know those two are near the top, but I'm just saying Erk is too. I don't remember if he was considered "Top" or "High", but hes up there. Similar reason why Matthew is Top Tier as well.

The trade off between Ranger and Hero, is one gets a horse/bow, while the other gets Axes. Axes>>>>>Bows, but having a horsy is nice. It would be a clear decision if it was a FE4/9/10 horse, but thats not the case here. Gerik's combat power is certainly better by alot if you give him axes, but he gets alot more MOV if you make him a ranger. I don't think one is really that much better than the other.

I think the utility of a horse is just absurd. Sure, axes are nice, but you're not really in desperate need of axe users in most of SS. I'm of the opinion that increased mobility is like the number one stat in FE7/8. The stats for Hero and Ranger pan out to be about a same, you can argue that the extra POW point from Ranger level up is wasted since both max POW anyways, but you also get more DEF and RES which I think is a better tradeoff than 1 HP and some SPD/SKL.
Horses are just OP :<
And I can definitely see Erk being higher htan those 2 on some metrics, since IIRC he has better stats. But still. Priscilla has a HORSE. HORSES OP xD

I also really liked the super trainee, it gave you some really nice choices, and variety in your play though
Any one else remember the glitch in FE8 that let you teach dark magic to any unit in the game?
The trainee's were amazing. Ross was so OP. You got him in Ch. 2 and then can train him through the rest of the game. But, with him I actually didn't ever go super trainee because he had such low Con for an axe wielder. I actually think he was the best warrior from any FE

The extra SPD that Heros gets helps double attacking, though IDK if it actually makes much of a difference. As for FE8 having plenty of Axes, I don't know if that really matters. Its not like you are limited to a certain number of Axes, and Axes are the best physical weapon in the game, so the more the better, right? I think it comes down to which you favor more, 1 more MOV, or better combat power. I normally go with the better combat power, but I don't think either one is the more correct choice.
Gerik's support affinity is Thunder, right? Gerik with A Support with that Dancer gives him Full Avoid, and Gerik is already pretty fast, so IMO the extra point of DEF and RES he gets isn't as important, since he would rarely get hit anyway. Plus I think he gets full Avoid from all his possible partners other than Joshua and lolSalah. SPD is a stat you can't make up for with weapons or support, so an extra point there is really nice.
I didn't play FE8 as throroughly as FE7, but I've always found that he can avoid basically all the monsters without any special need for supports anyways. Gerik wasn't someone I really focused on getting supports with often, I think most I ever had for him was a B support.
FE8 didn't have rankings like FE7 did, so I never really exhaustively played through all the possibilities, so you might be right that the Avoid is really helpful. BUT HORSES XD
I got RNG screwed with both Erk (once) and Priscilla (twice, wtf?), so I kinda hate them xD
Dorcas can be quite good, and is an awesome guy to boot. Bartre can also be ok but is no powerhouse like other axe users. They are still underrated IMO.
Not talking about any extra hard modes and off the top of my head of course. I played the games long ago and I was never an expert.

Well, this gets back to what I was saying a few pages ago, about how you define what a good character is. If you are playing a non-ranked normal mode run, then obviously tons more characters are playable. Those that help out on a hard mode ranked run, is much more exclusive.

I think FE7 was the one game i didnt like using axe users in.
In FE6 i made sure to use both Geese and Gonzales though. Memories of those 2 + one of the healing classes holding off endless numbers of Wyverns in some of the later levels were nice. Not to mention the 30% crit Berserkers get in FE6 compared to 7 and so on.
Actually i take that back, the only axe user i used in FE7 was Dart, cause i think Berserkers are my favorite class or were at the time of playing that game
FE4 is, by far, my favorite one. Honestly, this game does not really belong to the serie. The sheer size of the maps and the complete brokeness of the characters gives it a completely different gameplay from the other FE (though you'll still retain most of the tactics specific to the area-divided-in-squares games)
To measure how much the game impressed me, I have to say that after fifteen years of gaming, it's among my top three, alongside with Baldur's Gate and Metroid Prime. Sure, I love Starcraft, may it be BW or SC2, but it can't compete with such a massive experience that is FE4.
Funny thing, I still remember 5 years after all the legendary weapons, all the noble houses, ans surely most of the cast.

It isn't official that they aren't localizing, but neither is it official that they are localizing. The lack of any word on Nintendo's behalf right now points to it being a Japan-only release. Furthermore, I've been hearing that it's been region locked on DSi.
well shoots. that is very disappointing. I see no reason for them to do that. This game has been released in America since FE7 and they really don't need to stop now. How hard much does it cost them to just write it in English? It has been so long since the last one, but to know there isn't much possibility for me to play a new is depressing. I might even pay a slightly inflated price, to justify the apparently substantial cost of localizing a finished game.
But that is on an Emulator. I want the thrill of getting a legit version, opening it up, reading the manual like a boss, putting it in, and playing it on my 45 minute daily car rides. I think that is what a game should be, and all of my nostalgia comes from times when I do that.

It's the experience as well as the game man
I'm talking about getting something like an R4, downloading the Japanese version, and patching it - you still play it on your DS. It's unfortunate that I'm pirating my most beloved SRPG series, but when they don't fucking localize, there's nothing else I can do to play it, except for learning Japanese, haha. The only thing you'll miss is the manual if you do that Hell, if you want, you can import the Japanese version, proceed to download the game file and put it on your R4 or R4-equivalent, patch, and it'll be pretty much legit.
On August 12 2011 13:44 Juddas wrote: haha well I'm afraid I don't really want to do that. i'm afraid I am not cool enough to do it that way.
Wait a second.... Could i DL on an SD card and then play it through my 3DS? How would that work logistically?
I don't think so. You'd need a micro SD adapter (R4, CycloDS, etc.). It's unfortunate, but it's pretty much the only way to enjoy the great games released in Japan that sadly don't get translations.
I don't own a 3DS nor have I looked into its capabilities, so I can't really tell you too much about it from personal experience. I'd assume that since there's backwards compatibility with DS games, the slot for DS games works the same way as the one on the normal DS, which means that you need a micro SD adapter to play any Roms on it. I'm sure you can't just throw roms onto a SD card, put that into the 3DS, and play. It would make it waaay to easy for would-be pirates.
I just borrowed Path of Radiance from a friend today. Can't wait to try it out! I still wish I had a copy of Sacred Stones or one of the other GBA games...
I just read up on the whole FE12 thing. It looks amazing. The "My Unit" thing has to be the coolest most creative thing they have done with the series yet. It would be so cool if you could start out with a basic mage or Peg. knight and level it up from 1 to the end. AWESOME.
Oh wait. not in U.S. i swear I should just learn Japanese. How hard could it be?

It'll be easier to go through the trouble of getting a micro SD adapter than learning Japanese if you want to enjoy FE12 However, if you're truly interested in learning Japanese and it's not some weak whim, then go for it, because it'll open up so many more enjoyable mediums if you're an anime/video game fan.
Well that is the supposed end to the Tellius series. None of the other games take place there.
He sorta had emotions in FE9 and he seemed to have a romantic attachment to Elincia. Both of those turned into "hurr durr I'm a mercenary" in FE10. Micaiah and friends were alright though.

I hope you don't mean stat wise in FE10.
Nah, Ike is the most broken Lord character of any FE game.
The problem is is that she actually marries Geoffrey. I think of Ike as more of a friend to Elencia, whose real duty is as a mercenary. That's why he spends very little time with her. Who they really screwed over in that game was Soren the shemale

It's really just something that came out of the blue though. You could see that they could've matched in FE9, especially in the ending cutscene. Geoffrey x Elincia sorta was just made up on the spot. Oh and they also got rid of meaningful support convos in FE10. There was some interesting stuff in FE9 involving support convos, such as the one about Soren being Branded.
Yeah, the interesting supports take effect in the epilogue lol which is weird. That's when we find out who the heir to Daein is and that sort of thing.
What no supports in FE10?!?? Fuck that shit, what the hell were they thinking
How's Sothe in Radiant Dawn btw? He's the main protagonist, right? Not Ike? I don't like the way he looks lol... He doesn't look like he's got much charisma. :/
"Well technically ike ends up being the Protagonist, and Sothe is more of a Seth like character in Part 1 where Miciah is the Protagonist. Anyways, I think he is about as good as whispers come, but he is a whisper (basically a rogue that can attack. sort of. they max strength at like 26 where everybody else maxes strength in the mid 30s unless you're Haar. Then it is 40 I think.
and they didn't remove support. It is the same way as the others, they just don't delve all that much into charcters and whatnot. That, like I said, happens in the epilogue.

Oh okay Seth-like character, I can handle that. Since Wyvern Riders are one of my favorite classes, I have a feeling that I'll be using Haar quite a lot when I get to playing FE9 and 10. I love them flying tanks <3

In FE10, Haar's max is 38 strength, Reavers are the only Beorc class that max at 40, Laguz can get more than 40 strength, especially lions and dragons. Can't remember the specifics off the top of my mind,
Sothe is okay, he's sorta the Seth like, only not as good as Seth can be since there's another character you get much later that overshadows him, + Show Spoiler +
Volke, though because Sothe is mandatory for endgame anyway, it's quite a good idea to shove some experience his way.
The support system is changed in FE10, since two characters can support each other, and is be more generic compared to the tailor made support conversations that adds to a character's backstory from the GBA one.
However, getting certain pairs to an A support changes their ending a little, the same as the GBA ones.
@Spica: IMO Sothe is annoying as hell. He just herp derp follows Micaiah with mindless devotion even when she's being really stupid and/or stubborn. Not one of my favorite characters at all. As for stat's, he's... okay, I guess. You don't really want to use him at the beginning because he's already promoted and just leeches XP, and then he's extremely useful for a while when the Dawn Brigade is all alone, but after a certain point, he becomes pretty obsolete in my experience. Not bad, but many stronger characters are available. =_=;;
If FE10 has any weaknesses, I agree that it's lack of support convos. However, the game is so damn long that IMO that makes up for it. You're in for a treat if Wyvern Riders are your favorite classes, because Haar is easily one of the best characters in Radiant Dawn. Most players end up with him as their rank 1 in kills/usage in a playthrough without even trying because he's so good.

Just a hint: keep him away from thunder mages, even with nullify, Haar's one weakness is his quite poor resistance.
Ah I knew that my instincts were right when I first looked at Sothe, I thought, "This kid looks annoying" lol. Augh I hate the herp derp mindless follower type characters, but yeah I'll be sure to shove some experience his way to make sure he doesn't die later. >__>;
And yes I hate it whenever a Wyvern Rider is out destroying everything in its path, and then lolwhoops here comes a mage and blasts it to near death. They usually survive though so I just stab the annoying thing next turn. :D

I most definitely did lol. But really, about Sothe, since you have to use him, and he has that great support with Micaiah, he can actually turn out fairly useful he has been kept up to date on his levels. I know his growths outstrip his class by a lot because I maxed on Strength, Speed, and Skill on level 3 or 4 of whisper.
Actually, I take that all back. He sucks. Would you like to know why? He has the almost coolest ability in the game once he becomes a Whisper. HE will almost kill someone. It's like Mercy, but with a critical. So yeah I guess Bane sure is his.

Buzzinga
It's actually pretty good if you want to feed a lower leveled unit some kills/EXP, but the point in time Sothe class changes, however...
Well yeah, but what I hate most about it is that it is allllmmost cool and awesome, but never really all that useful. Lethality, on the other hand, that's a cool ability.
FE10 has no support conversations, but the tradeoff is you can support anyone together.
In FE9, Haar comes rather late, but is still a decent RNG proof unit if you want to use him. Jill in FE9 is one of the best characters in the game, and at one point in time, was considered the best.
In FE10 Haar is either one of the best, or THE best. Personally I think Haar is THE best unit in normal mode, but in Hard Mode hes still among the best. Jill is still very good in FE10, she just isn't around as much as Haar, and when you get her, she isn't as godly as Haar comes when you get him. Oh yeah, in FE10, Wyverns aren't weak vs Bows. LOL.
Now is a good time to share our horrible RNG-screwed stories.
I just got hit by 2 6%s in a row, and then failed to hit an 83% right after that. The frustration is hard to describe right now. Oh, and in FE10 Hard Mode, I was 1 hit away from killing a boss, and had 2 chances to do so, both 80%. Needless to say, I missed twice, and a unit died the next turn. >_<

Despite Priscilla supposedly being good, I often got crappy level ups with her too. Seems to be a trend with troubadours for some reason. Just bad luck -_-;;

I know just how you feel I've always been a Wyvern Fanboy.
FE4, my favorite unit was Altenna, and I was disappointed there was no Gen 1 Wyvern (although Trabant was a huge badass). FE6, Miledy was always my best unit. I remember wasting so much time in old FE debates, arguing Miledy vs the likes of Alan, Percival, etc. FE7 kinda didn't have good Wyverns. Heath is pretty much Nino on a dragon, and I don't like units like that. Although I remember I did a long debate arguing on behalf of Heath too, in the ancient past. FE8 was Cormag, too good. FE9, Jill/Haar, too good. Esepcially Jill. FE10, Haar, LOL. Jill too. Chapter 1 and 4 (and end of 3), my Jill was an absolute monster. Chapter 2/3/4, my Haar just lol'd at entire maps. Nothing could touch him.
In FE10, even though Bows no longer have bonus damage vs Wyverns, they replaced it with Thunder Mages getting bonus vs them, but really, all that means is when the missions start, I check the map for Thunder Mages, and rape accordingly.
On August 13 2011 13:03 Juddas wrote: could someone point me to a decent english patch for FE4? the one I downloaded only translated the story, names, and dialogue
Also, since you guys are talking about RNG screwage, I though that I'd rub in the fact that its impossible for Miledy in FE6 Hard Mode to get RNG screwed. This is Miledy when you first get her. She is a level 10 Wyvern Rider. Yes, Tier 1. Unrpromoted. Her base stats are better than some 20/20 stats of people in FE7.
Before promotion, my 19/0 Miledy:
So, later in that playthrough, here is what my Miledy looked like as a level 20/6 Wyvern Lord: lolololololol Miledy too good.
Of course, FE6 has really crazy enemies as well. For example, in Sacae, there is a Swordmaster Boss called Gel. This guy is crazy, and there is still a decent chunk of the game remaining. I wonder how my Miledy would do against this guy...
lol
FE6 was crazy though. Chapter 21 IIRC was real fun. You get to fight Bern's main army. Here are screen shots from various parts of the mission: Thats alot of Wyverns. I wonder what their stats were... For generic enemies, these dudes are tough >_> Oh yeah, the Wyvern Lords had Silver Lances IIRC. Fun.
Finally, completely unreleated to FE6. Alvis in FE4 was crazy: Imagine fighting that guy when hes sitting on a Castle. Real fun.
Ch21 in FE6 was amazing. I remember tightly packing a box of Wade/Miredy/One of the Valks/Gonzo/Alan/The Etrurian Pally General and barrelling through. And then you had to face Murdock, who to date is my favourite enemy in the series (the manga really played up his awesome).
Granted, I never had the patience for hard mode. ):
As for FE12's my unit, I can only say it was about time. After spending 6 years on a message board that had its own character building/battling/map event system and RPs, as well as goofing around with hex/assembly editors on the GBA game, it's good to know that IS finally let players experiment a bit.
Oh, on RNG - My Eliwoods usually had the strangest final stats. Be it 15 speed or 27 res at 20/20, they'd never be quite average.
I just started playing FE4 and I've chosen to play it on a droid phone. I'm a veteran of FE 6-7 and I've pretty much played those games to death. It seems this game is a tad harder than those games, but I've beaten both of those games on hard mode so this should be fun.

Nothing can kill them and I love seeing them tear through entire battlefields without breaking a sweat. :D Miledy and Zeiss were ridiculous in FE6; I'd just park them near armies and watch them destroy everything in sight. Oh that delicious A support of theirs. I thought Heath was a wimp in FE7; my Fiona could school him lol, but he was still quite useful. All this reverence for Haar makes me want to ditch FE8 as soon as I finish it and start playing FE9 ASAP. *Hype*

LOL an Eliwood with 27 Res?! Your Eliwood was fit to be a mage lmfao.
Did you ever do the Sacae Route in FE6, give Miledy the Delphi Shield, and send her out alone in that one battle with like a million Nomads?
Omfg no. I should go try that out sometime though. Nomad genocideee

It's okay man, I kind of feel like a scrub too lol.
You know, why hasn't anyone brought up THE topic that's almost always in every single Fire Emblem forum out there. You know what it is.
Cutest Fire Emblem character. Post your opinions gogo.
Now I haven't gotten to playing all the games yet, but I think that Amelia in FE8 is adorable, and then you've got Fir, Rebecca, and Nino...
Wait a fucking minute. You mean giving one of the cavaliers who get all of the weapon tree every upgrade in the game and all the exp then letting them solo maps isn't optimal? Wtf. And here I thought I was a great tactician...

Real fun.
You know who is truly and utterly RNG-proof in FE6: Karel
Not that he's particularly useful given how late you get him, but it was awesome seeing +2s regularly when someone actually leveled up (for the few levels that he actually had).
On August 13 2011 07:18 Sentenal wrote: FE10 has no support conversations, but the tradeoff is you can support anyone together.
LOL.
...it looks like FE9 and FE10 has specially decided to make Wyvern Riders even more imba for Wyvern Rider lovers and abusers like me. I think I know who's going to be my new favorite character when I get around to playing FE9 and FE10.
And RNG-screwed story time? I'm still playing through normal mode on FE8, and Ross failed to hit a knight with a 97% hit chance... My face: :|

Oh, wait. You meant female character. The ones you listed are up there... honestly, every younger FE female qualifies as "cute" with the exception of Dorothy (poor Dorothy, I never even used her either :/).
i really enjoyed FE9 and 10 for the reason that you finally get a soldier class to play with. I think it was Stephanie and someone else. Stephanie was easily one of my favourite characters to use. The only thing I didn't like about 9 and 10 was that they removed Dark magic. Edit: does anyone have an emulator link for FE6?

Nephenee, not Stephanie in 9 and 10, and Aran in 10 only.
You do get Dark magic in 10, you just need to complete the game once before.

Ok everybody, since this thread has received so many views, I would like to edit the OP into a much better one, but I don't really know where to start?
I'm actually not sure if it's okay to link to ROMs on TL - my intuition tells me that it isn't, so it's best to PM a mod to be sure. Most well-known websites ban the linking of ROMs for obvious reasons.
The Fire Emblem with Roy is like THE hardest Fire Emblem I've played I've actually never finished it I think I got to the part where you choose which route you want to go on like with the Nomads and W/e. I wish they would make more Fire Emblems for the gameboy I think its the perfect handheld game! Lots of content and really in depth story even though the story is usually the same in each game. The unique character personalities so good though.
Oh man I love the Fire Emblem series. Thracia 776 is my favourite, but sadly it is the only one I don't have my own copy of since they go on ebay for up to $300! I didn't care for FE10 too much or the newer DS remake of FE1, I think Intelligent Systems should take a breather and look back on why all their other FEs were so amazing.
Anyone ever play Advance Wars? I think I enjoy that series just as much.
Question, are berserkers/pirates/fighters as bad as I think they are? I have never used one and I refuse to, mostly because Dorcas absolutely screwed me over one time. FUCK dorcas

I think i like advanve wars even more, but it's hard to really compare the two.
Berserkers are so sick Dart in FE7 was so good for an axe wielder (other than hector of course) but using the ocean seal kinda hurt on your funding rank Since they have hight con and wield axes it's like a swordmaster but with alot more of strenght. Fighters are meh but their crit animation with axe is so funny

Depends on the Pirate/Fighter, and game. In FE7, Dorcas and Bartre aren't good, but Hawkeye and HM Geitz are pretty good. Dart turns out good, hes sort of like Nino with an axe IIRC lol. In FE6, HM Gonzales is an absolute beast. I don't remember how good Geese is. Bartre still sucks in FE6, poor guy. In FE8, everyone is good. FE9, Boyd is good. I don't remember how Largo is. FE10 there are so many OP units, IDK.
Rolf sucks unless its FE10, and they get Crossbows in that game. FE9, hes an archer, and all archers who don't have a FE4 Legendary Weapons suck, no exceptions.
HOLD THE FUCKING PHONES OMFG! How did I not see this sooner?! That is amazing and maybe they wont region lock this one..... T.T
Thank you so much for posting!
And @above: Snipers can be pretty OP even without the legendary weapons or crossbows. The amazing ones just cant get hit and they always crit, so its like an invincible beserker that shoots from 2 spaces. But Rolf sucks imo.
IS THAT A WORLD MAP?!?!?!?!! PLEASE GOD LET IT BE A WORLD MAP. I AM SO EXCITED!
- Story was really good, but then again all the FE stories are well written
- I initially thought I dl'ed the wrong rom because the opening scenes showed characters from FE7 lol
- I decided to do a blind play with no walkthrough. Recruiting people was kind of annoying because of this, I didn't know what characters to bring to certain levels. I had to restart a bunch of times. :S
- Not knowing the requirements for the gaiden stages I only got like 4 legendary weapons lol. Also I didn't know you need to get all the legendary weapons for the bonus stages and true ending, so bad end for me I may do another playthrough just for that
- Didn't like how Roy gets promoted like only 3 levels before the last one, so he is forever stuck in mediocrity now
- They made Fa 's dragon form so ugly :x She looks like some deformed ostrich lol
- Chapter 21 was awesome
- Maybe its because I haven't played a FE game for a few years but I found the levels pretty challenging (never a bad thing)
- Roy's attack animation with the sword of seals was pretty cool too. The fire when you critical was a nice touch, but nowhere near Zephiel's awesomeness + Show Spoiler [Roy] +
- The RNG was decent enough to me that I really can't complain about it lol. All my guys ended up with around average stats for their class/level, except for Liillina and Miledy: + Show Spoiler +
She's pretty beast, I even gave her 2 sets of boots for +4 movement so I could run her in front and own everyone Not as good but still impressive lol
- Overall it was pretty fun, it really made me want to play all the other games. I think I may do another playthough for the true end and then replay 7 so I can remember the backstory a bit better.
- Depending on how much motivation and effort I have at the time, I'm thinking of doing a battle-report style blog of my playthrough. Would anyone be interested in reading? (Probably not since everyone and their mother has played 7)
I'm bumping this thread to avoid making a new one, because I really want to talk about Fire Emblem.
My first Fire Emblem game was number seven, for the gameboy advance. I remember playing that thing for hours and being quite terrible at it (not surprising, since I was nine years old). Many, many Bothians died under my command.
Fast forward to two weeks ago to me in Play n' Trade buying a cheap DS (before I knew Awakening existed; curses!) and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Side note: if anyone has a copy of the original Fire Emblem for Gameboy Advance, please PM me so I can buy it; I can't find it for any cheaper than like 50 bucks. I know I could just get an emulator and a ROM, but I'd rather have a physical copy since I can afford it.
Holy shit is this game all kinds of awesome. I've already beaten it on normal after taking Eirika's route, and now I'm on chapter 13 on hard difficulty (this time taking Ephraim's route). I must have 50 hours played on the damn thing just because of constant restarts due to characters dying.
Since I'm a Fire Emblem noob, I pretty much had Seth solo the entire game (not knowing he was a quintessential Jagen / Oifey archetype). This time, on hard difficulty, I'm taking a much more balanced, patient approach, waiting to promote my units until they're at least level 17ish; as a result...now Duesell and Franz are two-manning the game, and Seth is kind of like a slightly weaker third-wheel. Baby steps! For what it's worth, I have a handful of units (Lute, Giliam, Ephraim / Eirika, Gerik, Natasha, Cormag, Forde) all above level 12, so it's not quite as bad.
Worst map: Phantom Ship - FUCK this mission. Best map: Eirika's version of Phantom Ship
Both of the above involve recruiting the same characters, and yet they're totally different. The reason why I like Eirika's version is because it was like a mini-dungeon crawl, had multiple paths, and was quite challenging if I recall correctly. However, Phantom Ship can go fuck itself. I think I restarted that map like 20 times before I finally gave up on recruiting the princess and her buddy (though he survived) and just focused on killing everything. I will say that it was quite imaginative game design, and I'd probably really enjoy it on normal difficulty. But, yeah...like 6-8 hours of my life gone to beating it.
Anyway, love this game and I hope to get a copy of the first GBA Fire Emblem, and probably Shadow Dragon at some point. ^.^
