With not a great deal of time to invest into poe I SHOULD be playing softcore leagues but I've played hardcore in all arpgs since D2 and have a hard time going back now. When act 4 comes out I'll give it a spin again. | ||

Is the account name the same as steam name or anyway I can check? I'm reasonably certain mine is "Kissblade" (like I said, made the account a long time ago) So far my build has just been a fireball witch on self found stuff entirely. Probably looking to finish Dominus (merciless) but looking for tips on what I should do next after. I feel a little gated on my gear since my sockets are pretty crummy from the rares but my hp looks ok (maxed ele resists, 2.8K hp?) | ||

The reward for merciless dominus is a rare level 66 map which is worthless so most people don't even bother with it. Typically you'll just farm docks/catacombs to build a map pool and then begin progressing up the map levels. | ||

Jewellers: rerolls the number of sockets on gear (can destroy existing links and colors) Fusing: rerolls the links between sockets on gear Chromatics: rerolls the colors of sockets on gear However, there are subtleties involved: First, the number of sockets is limited by the item type - usually the size of the item in your inventory is the first clue, but to summarize: two-handed weapons, body armor: 6 sockets max headgear, footwear, gloves: 4 sockets max one-handed weapons, shields: 3 sockets max Also, your item must have a certain "itemlevel" to roll a certain number of sockets - click here for more details. The itemlevel of an item depends on the level of the mob that dropped it, and THAT depends on the area you are in. So basically, the farther into the game you go, the higher the itemlevel of the items that drop will be. You can check the itemlevel of a piece of gear by picking it up with your cursor, then holding Alt. You'll also see from the link that the chances of getting 5/6 sockets are far lower than 1-4. Orbs of Fusings are of mid-tier value in the barter economy, so if you want to try trading you might be able to buy gear from someone else that's already linked for a lower cost than trying to fuse things yourself if your current gear isn't that valuable. Again, the chance of hitting 5-6 links is very low comparatively. And finally, when using Chromatics to change the socket colors on a piece of gear, the colors that roll are weighted more towards the attribute requirements of the item (with gems removed). So for example, if your body armor requires a lot of Str to wear, it will likely roll more red sockets than others. Dex corresponds to green sockets, and Int with blue. I think Dominus on Merciless is worth beating once, especially when not playing hardcore. He is the "last boss" of the story quests, after all. Well, at least for now. Edit: Oh, the first build I ever played in the game was also a fireball witch! | ||

 The alt thing didn't work for me on checking ilevel, I've just been typing it in manually. Alt just compares it with my current item I'm wearing  .As for beating dominus on merciless, his first form wasn't too bad. Then I made a mistake and got wailed on by his bug form with five miscreations on me and died. Then every time I respawned, he had corrupted rain up and I couldn't run to him on time . This repeated till seven times later I finally killed him. Is there something I'm missing about the second form on how to get back to the fight if you die once?Oh my account name is XvKissBlade (took me awhile to figure out how to get in through steam ... on their forums >_<) | ||

Dom 2nd form u need a decent amount of armor or evasion to tank his attack. Bring granite flask or two (of iron skin). Ur attack shld also have decent aoe to clear the mobs that spawn during the battle as well. Yeah ideally its best not to die during his 2nd form or u have difficulty with his bleed rain which can spawn right when u return back to Dom through the portal. Usually people only do merciless Dom when they are like at lvl 70-80, since it would be easier once your build becomes complete (which is usually around that level range) and u have more dps to take him down quickly | ||

 2.8k hp is a little on the low side for endgame unless you've got lots of evasion or MoM | ||

Then you should take at least as many life nodes as you need to reach 120% increased (I usually don't play standard so correct me if my value is wrong, all I play on standard are my dead HC chars and they obviously have more). If you like you could also post us your current tree and we can check it for better routes/efficiency. | ||

Go to http://poe.trade and start searching around. Like he said, you'll want to find pieces with at least 60 life (you can get more, but top-tier pieces are probably out of your budget range) while making sure that you keep your resists capped. Also, are you on Torment or Standard? Prices are a bit lower on Torment right now due to it being a temp league, whereas Standard has an inflated economy due to years of built-up wealth. Also you can get away with 2.8k HP in softcore if you deal a TON of damage. You'll still die pretty often, but you'll be able to clear maps consistently to start building up some wealth. My recommendation would be to try to get this character viable up to ~72 maps, then just farm out some currency, research a build that you want to play, then reroll with a plan and a bankroll. Finally - personal opinion incoming - don't listen to all the hardcore elitists. This game has way too many desync/lag issues on top of mobs that can practically one shot you with the right RNG to be played hardcore. Especially as a new player, trying to play hardcore is often a quick trip to frustration and outright quitting the game. Also hardcore builds are somewhat restricted on what they can do, due to the need to stack HP and defense. IMHO you haven't really played POE until you've tried some of the more ridiculous builds the game has to offer (youtube Fakener, Shatterchuck, and Flicker Nuke) edit: Bind the chat command /oos to a mouse macro. Use it every time it seems like you're hitting something and it's not dying. It has a 10 second cooldown. Personal edit: I've been trying out builds to play for the beginning of the next league. I am looking for something very effective on a budget. Currently playing life-based 2hand RT Flicker Strike. Hit 60k dps last night with <5ex worth of gear. TBH this character feels like the easiest leveling experience I've ever had, and I'm crushing maps deathless, despite being desynced half the time. Should be easy to snag up a cheap Kaom's Primacy to get started on a new league. The rest of the build - 2x Ming's Heart + 5L Belly of the Beast - will take a little longer to acquire but Ming's aren't exactly a high-demand item these days, so I should still be able to get my hands on them. | ||
