On November 14 2013 06:51 Markwerf wrote:+ Show Spoiler +Only got into this game 3 days ago by coincedentally hearing of it again at blizzcon when they were talking about kripp and tried it out. Must say it's pretty damn good for this style of game. Not really my genre, i've played diablo games and skyrim but these games tend to bore quickly in my experience and while I probably won't play this too long either it has some great idea's. The design is pretty damn good, the building is interesting (though i was surely overwhelmed when opening the passive page the first time..), the economy is pretty genius with every currency item being useful somehow in creating good items (assuming it's not only about uniques) and i really like the skill system building it with gems etc. It's basically diablo 3 (or should i say 2) with almost every design point improved. So many small things are just genius perfections of the classic setup I think, evasion is no longer purely chance but entropy setup (no long unlucky strings resulting in death), elemental effects happen on critical, no cooldown spells like diable which enforce a 'go berserk then wait a minute' style of play, flasks filling on kills etc. Few quibles I have are minor. 8 skill is too limited I think, which I heard makes the Cast on Hit gems too good as they basically let you bypass that and have extra skills (or you frustatingly have to put up aura's and change your skill setup each time). I also dislike a bit how the mechanics like most games of this type ultimately force you to use so few skills, what usually drives me away from these games is that after a point your build so heavily enforces 1 or 2 skills that it just becomes spamming that or a small combo that the game becomes boring playwise and just a quest for upgrading gear. For example i only played one character and did a little checking beforehand because the tree quite overwhelmed me and decided to go with a cold based witch, deciding to go with life instead of 'ci' for now. It's almost all spamming freezing pulse now I got into merciless though because that is linked up to 3 gems and thus outclasses anything else I could do (exception aura's and curses). Anyway it's just the nature of these games I think, having to focus makes the builds interesting but also devalues playing it a bit which I like much more if you were using like 12 skills and actively had to switch more. I wished the gems didn't have to be leveled though, I think it;s a sort of tacky concept that kind of prohibits me from trying out much stuff. I got my main stuff (freezing pulse, ice spear etc.) at lvl 13 I believe so i'm kinda stopped from trying most new aggressive spells I find even if they are ice based because they just do nothing in merciless before i leveled them. Spell damage etc should have been related to character level and possibly item level I think and not by leveling the gem. I'm also one of the few people who actually liked the auction house in diablo. I agree it kind of removed the fun of self finding but to be honest that's just the nature of collecting ANYTHING. The further your collection grows the less new stuff you find and the more you have to trade. I don't like bartering in this game at all though but I'll have to get some 'must haves' for my character which should be easy to find but I still dislike scouring through the clutter of WTS/WTB etc. In my case I want some support gems that are just quest rewards for other classes like Reduced Mana and Life Leech, an auction house was ideal for that stuff really. I can see the point why some people hated the auction house in D3 but I do think these sort of games benefit from providing an easy market for trading/buying the lower level stuff like flasks, gems etc. Anyway very interesting games, just so many more things to think about. Something simple by the way which I'd like to ask, what do you pick up in this game? I get currency items are of course always fine but for the rest I don't know. At the moment I just pick up rares/uniques only keeping my eye out for any white/blue items that have many socked linked in the way I want em. What is the efficient way to collect? Should I vendor rares identified or unidentified? Should I go for vendor recipes? Should I not even bother with big stuff like rare staffs? Pick up: Magic items if you need them (only until like lvl 20 or so mostly, but there are exceptions; for example you also pick up white flasks if they're better or you pick up blue weapons / jewelry if it's potentially better. at times your weapon might suck so bad that you wanna gamble and put an Alchemy orb on a white weapon)
All rare items, identify each of them and sell them if they seem bad. It will result in better currency than if you don't identify with wisdom scrolls.
In general every item with RBG (all different colours) linked. Sell them for 1 chromatic orb. Also every item with 6 sockets, they sell for 7 jewellers.
Also pick up every gem until you have 1 of each (imo) in your stash. Some gems are more rare and worth selling. For example these and also some others like Multistrike, Cast When Damage Taken, Concentrated Effect, Chain, Greater Multiple Projectiles and Elemental Proliferation. Also of course pick up every quality gem.
Some vendor recipes are fairly useful. The chaos recipes with ilvl 60 gear (click item and type /itemlevel to check) for example. Also the recipe for flasks, where you sell quality flasks for Glassblowers currency.
Other than that... well of course pick up Uniques. Also, if you play a caster, you might want to identify every blue wand since they can get pretty high spell dmg/cast speed even if only blue.
EDIT: Also definitely check vendors and buy RBG items if they are for Transmutation Orbs or Wisdom Scrolls, but definitely not if they're for Alteration Orbs. Starting Act 3 Cruel, you can sometimes also buy items with 6 sockets from vendors, which is huge (here no matter how pricy they are). Vendors get new stuff every level up!
EDIT2: Btw, I understand you don't like the trade chats. I don't either, but I know an AH would make the game worse for me. I'm only using the trade chat for currency exchange, else I'm using http://poexplorer.com/ for finding upgrades (which I'm rarely doing, my lvl 85 Mara is completely selfound for example).

Things to pick up: + Show Spoiler +All currency (Scrolls and orbs) All rares (rares usually sell for enough transmute shards to be worth it, sometimes alch shards, etc) All 6-socketed items All 5 or 6 Linked items
(6socket items vendor for 7 jeweller orbs which really adds up).
Thats basically it. Its generally worth ID'ing items before selling them. The most profitable "end-game" vendor recipe is selling 1 rare of each slot (head, ammy, 2xrings, belt, boots, gloves, chest, 2h weap OR 2 1h weapons/shield etc) all together nets you a Chaos orb (quite valuable).
Note that those items must be itemlevel 60 or above (you can check by picking up the item on ur cursor and typing /itemlevel). Anything that drops in a level 60 or above zone will be above ilvl 60 so by the time you are in a3 merciless you are in business.

Well I forgot about the 5L and 6L, so he can listen to both of us.
Currently downloading Hearthstone, so a bit bored. Haha. Hopefully won't get too addicted, I wanna race a lot this season and hopefully I'll get a demi again or at least continue to often get in the top 20.

Alright that was sort of what I figured. Only just getting to act 2 merciless so haven't yet had much high linked stuff, only a few 5L no 6L from what I can remember. Is there any page where I can find exactly how the orbs work as far as chances go? I just wanted to know how good it is to tinker your own stuff or if it's better to save up and trade. All the upgrade stuff (armourer's scrap etc.) I saved up since I figured it's only useful to start using that when you have what you'll think be sort of endgame gear. I suppose the orbs making or tinkering with magic items (orb of transmutation/augmentation/alteration) are only useful for hoping to get good flasks (granite with bonus armour etc.). I guess all the rest you wait and find a high socketed perfectly linked quality white item and then try to make good rares out of it? I just wonder exactly how likely it is to end up with certain configurations.
From a few experiments I figured that the orbs have some probility distribution dependant on the item and weighted heavier at the worse options. Also I guess an orb always changes something so you can't roll exactly what you had. For example I have a helm with 4 sockets in the right colors I want but only 3 are linked which still makes it fine for me but the 4th link would make it insane at this point. However how likely is it to get that with an orb of fusing, ie how many am I expected to spend and is it worth it to try knowing this gear will be replaced eventually. At least I'm pretty sure it's not some simple binomial distribution for each connection because I feel it gives worse results than that would give on average.

Transmutation Orbs can imo be used anytime when you think it's useful, they're not that rare or expensive. Same for Augmentation, however Alterations are pretty good and shouldn't be wasted too much.
5 Linked items are really rare and if you already have one that's lucky. Especially if it is an Chest Armour (I still don't have one fitting for me >_<). We don't need to speak about 6 Links, they're super super rare and only really lucky people find them or craft them with Fusing Orbs.
Fusing Orb chances are pretty much luck based. You can get the 4L on the first try or on the 10th try (which would already be bad luck I think) or even later. You can get one 4L early on, but you should keep that one for quite a while and don't replace it even if you find better items, so it fits fairly well on a Helmet spot or Gloves or even Boots. Wasting too many fusings isn't a good idea, but if you plan to play mostly selffound I guess why not.
Also a Jeweller, Fusing or Chromatic Orb can roll what you exactly had, if you had for example 4 red colors you can get 4 red colors again. It's just luck based. Well, not completely. If an item requires Dex stat, then it's much more likely to roll green sockets for example!
Chance Orbs are like the name tells based on your luck. You can roll a Unique if one exists for the base item, or just get a magic/rare. If it is a common Unique the chance is much higher, albeit still fairly low.

Your first four link should be on your gloves or helmet imo. You want to roll movespeed on your boots and you can get a four link a lot sooner than you can get 30% movespeed boots since four links only require ilvl 28 while 30% ms is ilvl 55. If you get a four link in your boots then you'll want to replace them when you find 30% movespeed boots which means you also need to get a new four link. Gloves and helmets are the easiest slots to throwaway.
If you find a good weapon or chest armor with good links (especially if you're lucky enough to find a 5L) then you should use it, but remember that it is going to be that much harder to replace when you want to upgrade as you'll need a better item with those sockets or a better item and another item that has those sockets that is better than your other item you're replacing.
On when to use currency orbs you typically want to use the minimum you need to keep progressing your character at a reasonable pace. It is typically easier to buy things than craft them yourself until you're at least map level. The best way to find items is through an indexer (xyz or explorer) so that you can search for specific stats, links, sockets, etc etc to find the perfect upgrade. Eventually you'll reach a point where it is too expensive to buy an upgrade or there aren't any on the market so you'll start crafting.
It can also be good to craft a certain item like I'll get a four link glove or helmet and then alteration it until I get two good rolls. Some people try to alch instead, but there is far more variation in that strategy and you aren't always going to end up with a good item. At the same time it could take you more alterations than an alchemy is worth to get the stats you're looking for depending on how picky you are. Using currency is a balance of opportunity cost.

Yeah I know it's chance based obviously but i was just curious about the underlying distribution so I could do some calculations myself. Anyway I seem to have found how it works for orbs of fusing, it seems to generate a serie of numbers with the first number being the size of the first group, second size of the second group etc. Anyway the chance to roll a 4 link on a 4 socket item came out as about 13% from that calculation which seems a sensible number. The calculation is almost certainly wrong as I didn;t see them account for quality of the item which is surely a thing but I guess the exact workings are not known. Either way rolling good seems to be really low chances so I guess it's all only worth it if you want to create endgame gear unless you have a specific thing low level thing you need NOW (like linking 2 sockets etc.).
|
Well, 4 links are fairly common drops ... like Blitzkrieg said, just pick one up and use Transmutation + Alteration OR what I would do, use Alchemy Orb. Preference. :D
Also not sure if the chance you have there is up to date. They made 4 Links like 200% more common in Patch 1.0.0 or so. I feel it's fairly easy to do it now.

There are some topics on the official forum with data for fusing and jewelers and things that have been compiled. Digging them up through all the drivel and bad math might hurt your eyes though ^_^

Just found a ring. 15% IIR 3-6 PD 3-42 lightning damage 66 life 4.6 hp/s regen 41% increased mana regen rate 14% IIR
hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg
Also I've found 3 absolutely fantastic 2h swords lately. One rolled 6-115 lightning damage as well as 15-26 fire damage. Another rolled 17-37 fire damage, 3-74 lightning damage but has much higher base PD. The last of the 3 rolled a 94% increased PD line for 81-136 PD (along with some fire damage and 34% lightning res).

Yeah i looked at trying that game out, but i didn't recognise the game creators, so i read trough the terms of use. Then i decided against downloading and the use of their services. Part 22-23 and 29 of their TOS was what warded me off.
Very short on those 3, for more details, read those parts.
Basicly, when you make use of any of their services you give them the right to go trough your browser and what you browse. all the ips you go to will be their information to sell or give to anyone they feel have a need of that information. Also, that is of course in addition to all your personal details that you have given them.
so... yeah

might want to brush up on your reading comprehension there buddy. It's pretty clearly referring to collecting information about how you browse their website, which is reasonable and expected for... just about anything, really.

Anyone knows what are the new vendor recipes yet?

Any improvement on desync since the last major patch? I stopped playing maybe 2 months ago. POE is the real successor to D2 IMO, but the lag (and worse, occasional D/C) is sometimes so bad that I can't really risk playing hardcore (and few enough friends want to play soft).
|
It should prolly be in some FAQ of sorts but basically desyncs are a LOT more based on things you do than on things "the game does on its own". I can recall 1-2 "real" and for me hard to detect desyncs over 3 50+ characters since release.
Use shift before attacking. Don't run past big packs in tight areas. Be careful around Bringer of Bones mods. Be careful with right clicking scary mobs around tight corners and such. Always add shift. Bonuspoint: If Vaal looks like he (she? it?) is moving, assume desync.
If you understand why and how desync occurs you can recognize almost any situation where it's likely to happen (restricted movement / high ping) and fix them with a quick /oos macro. Basically if you're not in a race environment and pay a little bit attention it's really, really hard to die to a desync.

There are times when I desync based on the environment, like flights of stairs, or the more visually heavy areas (usually the ones with different lighting/shadows), and where there are obstacles that you can't run through.
Ultimately, my connection isn't the best so there goes the final solution (impossible currently, because the infrastructure for improvement isn't there yet). I was just wondering if GGG had found a way to deal with the lag/desync that I assume is caused by my distance (Dota 2, for example, works decently for me in terms of it not lagging).

Honestly, there is a lot you can do to mitigate desyncs, but it's not that simple for all people for particularly all builds/skills.
Sure, if you're running Discharge and you live inside a server you can probably cartwheel through a doorway full of Koles and not give a shit. Even if you're half a screen away you're still going to Discharge when you hit the key and everything is still going to die.
If you're running Freezing Pulse and you're prone to small desync issues then you probably better be pretty masochistic if you want to keep playing. Sure, shift key might make you able to avoid dying, but you're still not going to be able any reasonable fraction of your DPS.
