Poison does start out at 1/2 the dps. However, the stackability overrides that tremendously (again, emberwake). In every other sense, poison is easier to scale, in terms of damage, duration, proliferation, ease of application, etc.
Even a build like burning discharge which absolutely plays to every one of ignite's "strengths" is strictly better if you do consuming dark/binos/infernal mantle chaos conversion + poison.

strictly to avoid an instance crash
emberwake demonstrates what poison should be like: less than half the base dps, scales roughly half as well from nodes on the tree and other things, has a real drawback (basically can't crit) and for fucks sake doesn't come from physical damage
I'm not actually mad it's just that the more I compare the two the less I can see any justification for ever trying to scale ignites.

Ignites are just at a low point since they were overpowered for so long. Give it time and they'll be back on top. Chaos damage has been in the spotlight getting new skills and things for a few patches now so it is going to be the flavor of the month for a bit.

My last char was a 100% ignite chance flameblaster, shit was hilarious and really strong. I could dab some rares/bosses for 20% of their health, and they'd die to ignite. Definitely felt like a skill where ignite could be mechanically superior, since everything died to 1 flameblast and it's successive ignite. For poison to do more damage you'd have to flameblast things several times which would be more cumbersome.

Incinerate isn't completely dead. It actually works reasonably well with the whole consuming dark poison conversion. Some guy posted a video about it on reddit.

Only 4 points for me in the first race, I died at Piety (lol) playing with Marauder. Her Ice Shot 2 shotted me, I almost died to her fire form earlier. Been a long while since I did Piety with a melee, plus I'm usually doing her at max res. Next time I'll be more careful.
I wasn't all that good though, so I don't really care. Died when I was around top 200. Was using the 2h weapon from the start to the end, didn't find anything better.

might try the exiles everywhere later tonight, it's always a bitch finding interesting races that fit one's schedule
I really like the variation this league though. Winterheart seems like a decent signature race, plus they have headhunter, blamt, exiles everywhere, new act 2/3/4 race starts, really killing it imo.
though the schedule seems to get even fucking worse for me every season. everythings like during work or the middle of the night.

Well, for me the interesting things are in the night/morning too. That's the next Descent Champions, Exiles Everywhere and Endless Ledge. And yes, I only like normal races when they're rather crazy like Exiles Everywhere. Else I prefer the races in other worlds.

Meanwhile interesting ascendancy reveals. Marauder "berserker" is beyond shit as expected. Templar one seemed strong. Ranger one seems RIDICULOUS considering how strong flasks already are.

Flasks don't give tooltip so they're worthless to most players so it's okay to keep making them more and more ridiculous.
Maybe Vessel of Vinktar will finally change the attitude of the unwashed masses because that thing is truly absurd.
