Can't really say that here. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but only Cleverley and Welbeck are products of United's academy. Everyone else was bought from other clubs (some of which were at high prices). The reason why United's spending is not as ridiculous as City's is because all of those players were brought in at different intervals and over a gradual period whereas City brought in many of its players through a few ludicrous spending splurges.

United has been able to obtain their success largely due to their academy (i.e. Fergie's Fledglings) while City is trying to succeed through big spending alone. I'm not trying to say that United haven't benefited at all from spending because that would just be stupid. Just hate City for trying to do everything with huge spending alone.

Yeah sure. Point was how can you say academy > spending today when 2/3 players were united academy while city had hart and richards. (richards was academy afaik)

I didn't mean necessarily in this game. I was going for the broader picture in terms of what both clubs have done.
Entertaining. I'm really liking Cleverly and Welbeck; imo Cleverly should be given a chance to crack the starting XI as he is much more creative than Carrick. De Gea still shaky but looked better in the second half. Phil Jones was also solid.
tbh when it hit the 90th minute I was hoping it would go to penalties so De Gea could get that experience in the EPL. But I won't complain about Nani making a play like that
Despite the fact it's basically a friendly it's always good to beat the Stockport Massives. 3-2 completely flattered them to considering we were shitting all over them even when 2-0 down. Anyhoo! Back to griefing my city fan friends who wouldn't even speak about football till they had money!
cleverly being called into the england squad is a bit premature imo. I'm excited about his talent as I think any manu fan is, but this is too much, too soon.
It's a friendly so it's a good chance for Capello to take a closer look on some of the younger players. And England really doesn't have too many creative midfielders to choose before Cleverly...

he's 21 and not getting any younger, kind of needs to be thrown in at the deep end.

It's pretty much a meaningless friendly, so why not throw on a few youngsters. Of course, I think Cleverley played in the Euro U21s where nobody shined that greatly so he might have a bit to go.
