i used to be neutral on barca, but this season really changed my mind for the worse about them. they keep blaming everyone but themselves whenever things don't go their way. take a look at the first game against the milan, they complained about not getting 2 penalties but they also forgot to mention that they should've picked up at least one red card (most likely two) and that pitch thing...that was just ridiculous...
they truly do play great football but this whole thing is just a disgrace. and for those butthurt barca fans, remember motta-busquets thing...
and you got to wonder where is platini now with his "HC" stance on cheaters and divers?

You know nothing, Jon Snow.

What was a disgrace to sports was the obvious rig on the OL thing. Even Ajax got robbed off two obvious penalties against Madrid to make it possible lol. Nice to see so much barça hate for "ref helps" (you missed the yellow card penalti on Puyol in Milan which the ref clearly saw) while this shit happened and no one gave a single fuck; so awesome.

Oh and the field. Defending that shit as ok truly is ridiculous.

this isn't about Madrid or the help they got from the refs, i'm not commenting about that, and why do you automatically suppose that i'm Madrid fan? (i'm Valencia fan)
about that penalty, it could've been called, but if you're going by that standard than barca should've got red cards for their fouls if you're going to stick by that criteria of judging? and can you honestly say that barca didn't had any help from refs? and not to forget when iniesta threw himself like he was hit by a train...
and the field thing, everyone could see that field intentionally got worse every time barca tried to pass the ball and magically became wonderful when Milan passed around. every idiot could see that. i swear that at one point i could see the grass trying to give xavi a wedgie.

Red cards against barça? For what, being good at football? I actually think you were trolling the whole time now.

Btw Barça B got a few weeks ago the trophy to fair play for the second time in a row.
Also, Barça has been consistently the team with less fouls in la Liga since Guardiola arrived.

If you recall Keita should've gotten two yellow cards in that game and mascherano at least one along with puyol.

@Rebs
i'm Valencia fan since '97, and i'm not hurt about Valencia being or not being in CL, i'm just saddened that team who plays such a good football can act so shameful sometimes. Glad you managed the see the sarcasm in my post about passing. Besides, if you're one of the top 2-3 teams in the world, isn't it expected a bit that you can adapt to game and pitch conditions?

I was just trolling back. Dont get so defensive.

And yes if you had actually bothered to read some of the thread rather than hop in you would know that it is well accepted even here that it is not an excuse. You should be able to adapt to all conditions absolutely and Barca themselves will tell you that, Guardiola is on record for a similar statement. . That doesnt excuse the conditions themselves. A high standard of pitch is expected in champions league football, it was not provided. End of discussion.

Everybody acts shamefully. It just seems to be the case that the best ones get accused of it because some different set of puritan standards are applied to them. This arguement is circular and has been made many times already and refuted quite reasonably as well, cba to dig up posts to explain it over and over.

(edit: although it appears Drone decided to do it anyway, to some extent.)

Feel free to believe what you will. Tired of every few months a smartass hops in the thread and repeats the same stupid discussed to death arguement over and over again.

Didn't a couple delegates from Uefa and the referees picked by Uefa deem the pitch to be fine for the match ? I never really understood how they could lodge the compliment if representatives of Uefa said it was ok to play on.

Kind of annoying after you see the F1 thread which i really like and i follow as im a huge F1 too.

OP got banned not that long after he created the thread. Honestly, I'm fine with the way things currently are; the thread functions as a thread for a few side-conversations about games that do occur and what not. Unlike F1 where there are only 20 races, it is much more difficult to maintain a working thread given that so many matches occur throughout the year. I don't think there is really a need for anything too fancy here.

Yeah but i can be done too. Like the big games in champions league, big games in europe domestic leagues, league tables all easy to get hold of and update on a weekly basis xD just makes it bit more stats based and what people can see. Few transfer stories as well.

Why? Chelsea was lucky that the first game didn't end in a tie... So the title is perfect...

I'm not in any way saying that Benfica have the upper hand... As I see it, the odds are probably 20-80 right now. But there's still a chance!

And just as an information, Benfica have the 4 central defenders injured... Luisão is the only one that might play, but not likely...

It seems Abramovich has perfected his ability to sack coaches at the perfect time... Napoli deserve to be in this round, did you see the refereeing in the 2nd leg, atrocious!

Anyway what's happening with Benfica? Thought they'd win for sure...

Lol...why did you think they would "win for sure" vs a team who have vast experience in the Champions league to a team who are in there first last 8 appearance since 2006 in the champions league? A team not even top of there domestic league? A team with only 1 very good player in Cordoza and a team not in form? Vs a Chelsea team hitting form after u just said it sacking there manager?

Benfica has quite a few good players actually. Gaitan, Javi Garcia, Cardozo, Aimar, Witsel, Luisao.
LoL EuW: Zhiroo - By starting this squabble you've proven nothing but how vast your stupidity is.

Yea they did didnt they,

UEFA also have assistant judges standing by the touchline behind goals that dont do anything. Whats your point ?

That players just decided to slip and slide erratically because they wanted an excuse. The duvets falling out as if every patch of grass had terrible golf players swinging all over the pitch was clearly an indiciation that the players were digging theyre feet to hard, they should learn to play football as if they were skating.

Anyway I dont see why this discussion is even worth making. It was clear the pitch was substandard and shouldnt have been green lit. Clearly the bureaucracy thought otherwise. Nitpicking stupid things is an unreasonable arguement.

Benfica is much more historically acclaimed though.
They have many european trophies unlike Chelsea which is just a small team.
Ofc history and trophies dont play ball, but it's a thing to consider.

Benfica is much more historically acclaimed though.
They have many european trophies unlike Chelsea which is just a small team.
Ofc history and trophies dont play ball, but it's a thing to consider.

You are sounding like a liverpool fan.

Yes they were a big team in 1960s. European Cup: 2 Winners: 1960-61, 1961-62
So well done to them, beating Madrid i beleive both times? Since then they have won nothing in Europe. They have won alot of domestic titles though so well done to them. But right now or even since 2000s Chelsea have done alot better than they have and thus are the better team, hense the best 2 Benfica players last season were signed by Chelsea in David Luiz and Ramires.

Your knowledge about Benfica is atrocious... For starters, Ramires and David Luiz were not the best 2 Benfica Players... As a benfica fan if i had to choose (in the year that Ramires went to Chelsea) the best players were Di Maria and Coentrão (both on Real Madrid), and last year was Coentrão, Gaitan, Aimar and maybe Javi Garcia. Altough i like David Luiz a lot...
You clearly know nothing about benfica. but i don't blame you as the portuguese league is not that competitive... According to the uefa ranking is the 5th best in Europe right now... on par with the french league

You forgot to say that they have 5 more finals which they lost. So, that's 7 champions league finals. That's huge. And rofl at their bad luck losing 5 out of 7, I'd hate it to be a fan of benfica, xP.
On the other hand Chelsea has 2 Uefa titles, which is the euro league for the lesser, weak teams.

It was ranked higher than the UEFA cup for 90% of its Duration the cup winners cup which is what Chelsea have won 2 times. European cup (champions league) until 1997 was only 1 team (league winner) from each domestic league across Europe, the cup winners cup was based on domestic league success as well, for example the English team was decided by who won the FA Cup to gain access to the competition, im guessing that was the same across the other leagues. Also if the team who won the league (they went into the "champions league") and there other domestic cup they would not give another place to that country and no one would get entry into the competition.
Chelsea beat Real Madrid in the final in 71 and Stuggart in 98 which is a very good achievement.

Please the only people who gave a shit about the cup winners cup were the ones who won it. Even teams like Everton and West Ham have won it.

Prefer Chelsea to advance. At least there is a chance that Chelsea won't be rolled over by Barcelona, unlike Benfica.
