A few days ago a new polish company called Flying Wild Hog announced a new game, called Hard Reset. Amongst the crew there are members formerly from Bulletstorm, Sniper and The Witcher 2 staff.
The game is a Cyberpunk FPS which looks more like the old fpses, with hitpoints and colors.
Story: The game's plot revolves around a guy by the name of Major Fletcher, an eyeball-augmented soldier living in the bastion of Bezoar when humanity's on its last leg. Between the robotic genocide of his species and several other standard dystopian/cyberpunk aggravations, life's about as enjoyable as it is for Prometheus having his liver eaten by an eagle every morning. Gameplay: -FPS. -No Ironsight. -No auto-regen on health. -Explorable Doom-ish style map/gameplay. -Weird weapons with alt-fire. (?) -No Multiplayer, instead it is extremelly focused on the singleplayer.
So, what do you guys think? I honestly think that this has a serious chance of being awesome, the fps community has been long asking for an FPS with the old style hitpoints and the addition of colors. Plus I'm a big fan of weird weapons. The game will run in a new engine, called Road Hog made by the Flying Wild Hog themselves.
It doesn't look like a death match fps. Looks more like a resistance fall of man kind of shooter for PC or maybe a fear. Will be interesting to see how sales go as a PC exclusive.

Those graphics are stunning!
That are just screenshots, they don't say ANYTHING about the graphics.
They just show what the engine is capable of, not what the game looks like.

Well, they look better than screenshots from Wolf 3D.
Looks cool. I like dark, blade runner type games. I loved the original perfect dark. Wish the game industry would get over the cover shooter and cod fads.
Actually having a HP bar already gives it points in my book. I hope the combat and movement are pretty fast paced since it is able to being PC exclusive. Might end up being a pretty cool game, hopefully the multiplayer is some sort of death match style, the screenshots look really nice and colorful.
Screenshots look promising, but as is always the case, the actual game looks quite a bit worse when it comes out. I hate shooters that take place mostly in the dark.
Last shooter I actually enjoyed was Crysis 1, that was PC exclusive too, and it still looks stunning today.
Oh thank God it looks like it doesn't have ironsights... I'm sick to death of looking down sights every time I pick up an fps. Here's to hoping for an oldschool Quake-y feel
I think it is worth reading, didn't read all of it but the first few questions they couldn't have answered better.

edit: at the end they state the game has no multiplayer, because they wanted to focus on giving the best singleplayer possible
Bump, Hard Reset is now available for pre-orders on Steam for 25,19€/26,99$, and I think this game deserves some more attention. It looks great so far, and Giant Bomb has a nice Quick Look on it on their site: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-hard-reset/17-4731/
I was actually expecting it to be a full-priced game. I'm pretty excited, not only because of the devs but the gameplay looks solid and fun as well.
pc exclusive? they hate on stupid cod railshooters? oldschool shooter style with many weapons/no regeneration and mazy levels?
sign me up.
and its on steam so i can get it for tf2 items? yyeeeaah :D
If you're tired of all the boring shooters on rails where all the encounters are heavily scripted and you can't even move too much, Hard Reset is for you. Hard Reset gives you the opportunity to eliminate hordes of enemies each time in a different way
just played the demo and man love the pacing of the game. robots come at you with full speed is fun. the gun are pretty awesome also. even though you only have two guns they have lots of different modes to choose from. You actually have to use the environment to help you kill the swarm of robots. just wish we fought at least one boss in the demo but sadly you dont. anyways day 1 buy for me.
The demo is AWESOME and I love the fact that it has an FPS stress test built right in. I'm running a GTX 295, somewhat modest compared to current-gen cards, and the game looks and runs great. Plus, it's refreshing to have a beautiful modern game in the same style as the great shooters of my youth.
If the demo is any indication, this game should be a blast.
Looks great, and ran smooth on my system (refreshing when I've been struggling with Deus Ex stuttering for a couple weeks now, a game with 10x the budget of this one)
At first I thought this game had two weapon syndrome. Then I realized that both of the guns have multiple attachment upgrades available that are literally 100% separate guns in themselves, are completely switchable at anytime, and every one of those separate upgrades have alternate fires that are separate guns in themselves.
This is a great game.
Also, that fucking boss fight man. My heart hasn't pounded that hard in ages.
Wow, ive played for about 2 hours now, not a lot i know, but i am really impressed. Its nice to finally have a game on the pc that runs great, looks great, and doesn't require hours of tweaking just get the most out of the game, like the shit ports that have come out with unbearable mouse controls, this game has it down perfectly. The story isn't that great, but i mean, im only about 2 hours in as i said, but the gameplay, which has a great blend of incredible action, and tonnes of upgrades regarding the weapons you get, and physics on almost everything, is quite nice. The graphics are expecially great, with some awesome physics on everything that blows up, such as the enemies, but i found myself wishing i had a better rig, since when the shit hits the fan, there are SO MANY light sources and particle effects eveytime you shoot something, its actually ridiculous and intense.
Now, the game can be hard at times, but its not bad at all, youll die a few times here and there, but its not because of a stupid reason, like a modern warfare, which has respawning enemies, the enemies just deal a good amount of damage, and theres a good variety to what enemies youll encounter, from small robots with razor blades that come to you in large numbers, to big ass robots who take a shit tonne of damage and bum rush you, its a great blend! Also, theres no life regen, thank god, but you pick up health, ammo, and money off of the enemies, so it feels preety balanced, mind you, im only playing on normal.
im getting around 50 FPS @ 1680x1050 just strolling around, to between 20-30 FPS when theres more than 5 enemies on the screen, but keep in mind, there are A LOT of things that blow up in a firefight, more than ive seen in games of late, so its not just enemies making light sources when you shoot and kill them, they blow up, which in turn will blow other shit up, which in turn will blow other shit up lol Anyways, here is my rigg, so you can get a reference point, its only in DX9 as far as i know, but its damn damn preety.
Fuck it, I'm going to buy this when I get home; The gameplay in the demo seemed solid and I want to support devs who are making PC-based games. That and nobody has said it's bad.
From the demo here's what I gathered: - Gorgeous looking - Fast paced - Good gunplay - Most bulletspongy FPS I have ever played(can't even headshot for faster kills) - 2-3 enemy types - Gun model takes up half the screen
The good parts don't outweigh the bad parts for me. I despise bulletspongy enemies.

Just a small update. I've bought the game and have been playing the last few hours. The enemies are "bulletspongy" to a degree... However there are still hit-sensitive areas on most mobs which allows you to aim for something to bring it down faster: e.g. on some mobs you are able to blow the legs away from the bodies and cause them to become largely immobile (they can only drag their bodies along with their arms) which becomes critical when facing large numbers of some of the bigger enemies! Others you can aim for parts of the body that enable certain attacks in order to disable them.
Of course you can't just aim for the head to one shot every enemy... I'm guessing you weren't really brought up on many old school FPS games?
Edit:
Further thoughts!
Voice acting is terrible LOL Story suffers dramatically because of it (and it doesn't make a lot of sense anyway). It's fun exploring areas and trying to find all the secrets (some of which are quite tough to get). Graphics are GORGEOUS in action So much shit is destructable, and you can create some crazy chain reactions at times. Music sucks.
This is definitely an indie game. That means good and bad parts of course!

It is a great throwback game. It doesnt do anything new except make some unique, cool looking guns. But that's ok because everything that it does try to do it does exceptionally well. The actual gameplay is very intense and challenging, levels are full of tough enemies that actually feel way stronger then you, something not seen often in shooters lately. the difficulty of this game is also really high, iv died countless times playing on hard.
The fact that it doesnt bring anything huge or new to the table is reflected in its price, but I still think that its well worth $30 if you enjoy intense, heartpounding shooters.
In this age of games being released unfinished because of deadlines, i think we should appreciate the games like this that dont necessarily bring anything new to the gameplay table, but are still solid in just about every single category a game can be judged by.
Looks great, sadly going to see this fail on a few accounts
PC-Exclusive (lower demographic these days, although I fucking hate console shooters) Singleplayer only (many people prefer multiplayer games, and singleplayer games are much more likely to be pirated.)

Uhh.. it's fine that you can shoot away the legs but each little monster still requires like 50 shots to die. It's funny that you tell me I'm newschool because I sure as hell do not recall Doom, Quake1 or whatever to make you shoot a single enemy for a good 10 seconds.
In any case that is my experience, and since Doom which is the first FPS I played, I have _NEVER_ encountered a game as bulletspongy as this one. And it's just not fun for me.
Is anyone else trying to play on hard or insane? every single encounter is a fight for life and death, its taking my soooooo long just to get through single rooms :p
Yes this game is insane on insane, really challenging especially because there is no quicksave in the game. I just ragequited because of stupid checkpoints. But it's still a fun game, spraying the crap out of everything while trying to stay alive and it's a good feeling when you reach the next save point.
Just a few thoughts: -I was a bit sceptical because of recent "new take on FPS" games (im lookin at you Brink and Bulletstorm) -Game looks like a arena/twitch style shooter similar to quake/UT -The gameplay and graphics both look pretty nice -Health bars, colour, no ADS and pickup management/timing are extremely welcome returns -Lack of multiplayer is extremely dissapointing. MP externds the games lifespan, gives replayability and to a lot of people is the number 1 thing they look for in a game (my current favourite FPS games are TF2 and BF2, neither even has a single player campaign) Im sorry to say that the lack of MP looks like a deal breaker to me, that being said i hope it sells well to show game companies that you dont need to make a COD clone to make money.
This type of game would have been better in isometric view in coop.
There's too much shit on the screen to be able to aim properly or to even tell what's going on sometimes. Couple that with no quick save system and the game becomes extremely frustrating.

If you actually played the full game you'd see your criticism is not really valid...
The little guys aren't a problem, but I was fucking stupid and put 2 points into radarlol (I seriously have no idea what the fuck I was thinking, but do not do this) otherwise clearing the bigs would be easier.
Right now I have the shotgun/paralyze and energy grenade.
I'm about to stream this game. Both this and Singularity caught my eye and hopefully it is pretty good. I like the small idea with perks, but I'm hoping the enemies are diverse and I get more than two guns (very likely I do!)
Any tips I should know about? I don't quite understand the electric gun quite well.
I bought it on a steam sale a while ago, after a very favorable Quick Look @ Giant Bomb.. played it for 15 minutes and unfortunately had no desire to go back to it :\
