APB: Reloaded is a Free to Play 3rd Person Shooter MMO. It is currently in Open Beta. Apparently it has had a rocky past, with a premature game release, and then re-release, but the game is currently solid and fun to play.
Think GTA with RPG aspects (rep grinds, achievements, rewards). Gameplay involves (up to 4 player) groups of the two factions (Enforcers and Criminals) to compete in one of the two cities' landscapes as one faction attempts to complete missions in the allotted time while the opposing faction does everything they can to stop them. Instances of these cities hold up to 100 players (50 Enforcers, 50 Criminals) and use a party/queue system to match groups together. The matchmaking system is still under development (as this is a Beta) so it is possible to be grouped against players of much higher experience/skill.

One of the most impressive features is the customization options for your character, clothing, and vehicles. Below is a video that displays some possibilities.
Character/Clothing/Vehicle Customization:
My Character: If you'd like the TL Logo and are on the Colby server, send me an ingame email (Character name: Braden) and I'll send it your way.
If anyone is interested in organizing a TL Clan on any of these servers, I will include it and your info in this post.
I have made this thread in an effort to organize those who are playing from TeamLiquid, and to separate it from theOld Threadthat was made for its original release, and has no relevant information to the currently playable game.
Wow, I played this during the first open beta/trial pre-release thingy and it was extremely fun, didn't even know they had a premature release! Might try this out again!
Joker - Lokgar Crim. I played this back in RealTime World's Closed beta and then just restarted now. It's good fun to dick around with a garbage truck and run other players off the road :>
On June 23 2011 16:51 iNdEMAND wrote: Sick logo. Mind sending it my way to? I'm on Colby West NA. Ign: aimaz1nG. Enforcer. Add me to your friends list too!
Added. I'll send it to you if I can remember when the servers come back up (~3 hours) but it'd probably just be safer to send me an ingame email and I'll reply with the symbol. :3
I played the original game, and it was pretty cool. The customization is what makes it great really. Very impressive system for that. Also driving is more fun than the gunplay if you ask me.. atleast the driving made for more hilarious situations
That being said, there was a lot of balance issues in the original game. Also tons of griefers and stuff.. hope they have fixed that for the re-release.
Just created a toon and enjoying it very much except for one thing. The lag and choppyness/rubber banding makes the game very very frustrating at times. I hope it's sorted for the release as I could see myself playing this.

Let us know how it plays lag etc, I am in UK too and was wondering if it's the connection to the servers, although from what I have been reading this afternoon there may be a huge memory leak at present.

It may be a memory leak, or it may just be insanely poor optimization, but this game uses more memory (RAM) than anything else I've ever run on my computer. I hope they track it down, but as long as you don't mind foregoing alt-tabbing for the duration of your game, it's not really noticeable.
As I play this game seems to eat a lot of my hard drive space?? I start the game with a gig of room or so (I don't want to delete my porn :< and only have a 200gb drive) and by the end I have like 16kb left???
Really annoying. Games pretty fun tho, I'm on east.
trainRiderJ, enforcer on USEAST, but man this game runs like crap... I get half second frame skips about once every two seconds. Changing graphics settings has no effect.
edit: fixed my graphics problem, just needed to reset the computer
Will your characters carry over from beta? Just so I know if I try this out during beta or after it, rather not put ton of effort on a character just to have to start from zero afterwards.
Never been a fan of playing betas due to that personally. :d

You can easily max out a character if you are any good at the game, it really doesnt take that long to get what you want, once you figure it is that you want.

For the first weapons I would agree, but it's taking me a while grinding up to get my car. I want a slotted Bishada Rapier and there are none in the market
After playing for about 3 or 4 hours, its a great time, and much different than your typical MMO, but i was playing alone, and it started to get boring. Highly recommend finding some people to Skype with or something, otherwise still fun, unless you get killed by the same person over and over lawl. Also, i hate unreal engine 3 lol, just sayin.!
Hey guys - glad to see this thread getting some love as the previous APB:RTW one was getting (unrightfully) ripped to pieces. Been playing this since its first release and been on this since closed beta and can only say this game is getting better and better with each patch. Someone whined about lag, theres a few cases of people getting random DCs but other than that lag is user side now in like 9 out of 10 cases.
Also, it has been confirmed by the devs that anything aquired during open beta will carry over once live hits (will find source if needed)
A personal opinion is that if you wanna enjoy the full game and explore serious gameplay and teamwork (which i find imperative) you need to be on TS/skype - personally i rock in a clan named WASP which is fairly organised and got divisions on both US servers and EU (patriot2). heres a mission we did earlier, pov from our clan leader:
Anyway, if anyone feel that there havnt been a shooter worth playing since BF2 then APR:R is definatly the game for you! They are adding more and more content and atleast 2 new game modes (racing district and some sort of cqc mayhem house) has been confirmed z0mg =D
As said i play EU patriot server under the nick: Calliopee so hit me up if you need a hand, tips and if your good someone to play with

Are you kidding? This game takes a loooong time to grind up rep with contacts, I've put in 100 hrs already and not even halfway done with my contact standings.

Assuming you have an nVidia card (but I'd assume the same is possible with a Radeon), you can go into your graphics settings and manually select which options are on or off within the game. Make sure you've checked the advanced tab ingame as well, antialiasing will drop frames drastically, so I'd check that first.
Also, to all of those saying Teamspeak is required, just turn on the built in VoIP, and use Z (default) to voice chat. Works pretty well in my experience.
yeah i'd totally play this if it wasn't for the fact it uses Pando Media Booster to download the installer. that shit just doesn't work for me at all, first it rapes my internet connection then it freezes my entire pc. I've tried to install League of Legends (another that uses this) like 8 times in the past week alone and it's always been the same result.
I honestly have no idea what's wrong with just letting people download it normally instead of through some stupid "media booster" that does seemingly nothing other than ensure some people can't play it.
I loved this game back when RTW had it and I'd love to play it now but the game's optimization is complete garbage now. My friend and I tried to play (we both have macbook pros w/ bootcamp) and it lags and has deadly freezes. Computers much worse can run it so i have no idea why. Really annoys me that G1 screwed up the game so much.

You might try a site like this one, the direct download or torrent might be what you're looking for.
yeah pando doesn't work for me either but I just downloaded the client. Also the game is poorly optimized/coded. But still fun to play. If they manage to fix the random lag and fps issues, the game would be amazingggg

This game is amazing. The most fun you'll have with friends. AND it's free. Really no comparison. Skype your homies and its time to bang the streets of San Paro

Sorry, trainRiderJ enforcer on useast. Also, my graphics problem went away after rebooting my computer. I was only able to play for about 45 minutes but the game seems like it could be fun.
APB reloaded is revamped and made by a different company entirely.
Its in essence alot more noob friendly with a lower TTK(you die and kill faster), the HUD is vastly improved, the lighting system has been revamped so evening/daytime feels more "real", the performance has decreased across low/mid PCs as a result and the story/direction of the game is more clear and understandable.
Oh yeah its also F2P. The original was box purchase + hybrid sub fee.
Some players love it because they finally feel like they can compete, others hate it because they feel like the skill and the performance has dropped too much to really be able to enjoy it.
TTK is substantially more noob friendly, and the matchmaking is much more lenient now, which means rather than 1 in like 6 boring missions you actually get APBs almost all the time, which makes for much more exciting time in-game.
It is still probably the most rage-inducing game I've ever seen though, and there are a fair number of hackers etc. but 9/10 someone is just really good and they get called a hacker.
The third-person is still a really low angle, and can make firing when right next to a ledge or corner etc. a little goofy for the first hour or so, but you get used to it.
Weapon balance is really pretty good, the slotted weapons are better, but no longer game-changing (and at least in the beta game-breaking.) There are 'pay-to-win' guns, but they are all 1-slot weapons (so far) and you can get better or the same on your own by grinding out some contacts etc. (In-game reputation for doing missions etc.) The only exceptions being the whisper and the scout, the whisper having a functional silencer which hides you on the radar, and people won't know where you are until you've hit them and they get the indicator. The scout is pretty insane, it lets you sprint with the HVR, and shoot it out of car windows (this will make sense if you play - normal HVRs cannot do these things.)
Overall - not only is it free to play, but the premium stuff is really not game-breaking, it just limits your customization, and I'm enjoying the game 4-5x as much as I did back when the original APB launched. All of this being before some pretty exciting announcements for the development pipeline at E3.
Just go into it knowing that it is free, all you are losing is time. You will lose. You will be pushed around by jerks in dump trucks. You will rage, hard. But at the end of the day, at least for me so far the past couple weeks, you'll come back, because its just damn fun.
And yeah, something has to be said about the customization.
Probably the best and most detailed level of customization in any video game, its probably the best feature of apb.
You can easily make batman, mario, barack obama, whoever you want or just a standard criminal/cop look-a-like. And add to that cars that are as customizable as character with logos, colors and additional features like different sirens, wheels and parts.
Dont forget tunes, you can make a mario tune to play while driving you car or just walking around
Here's a cool anime looking character tearing it up:
Niche games always get low reviews. Planetside was pretty unsuccessful but I consider it one of the best games I've ever played and a substantial influence to developers looking to create MMOFPS games.
been playing it for a few hours, impossible to hit anything, all missions so much in favor of the other team, spawning 800m away from target only to make it half way there before mission failed
On June 25 2011 01:02 Genzo wrote: been playing it for a few hours, impossible to hit anything, all missions so much in favor of the other team, spawning 800m away from target only to make it half way there before mission failed
Genzo, I think you've been hitting massive lag spikes while in firefights, along with getting unlucky with ur missions. Usually, the objectives are only like 100-300m away, which is a reasonable distance. If you have a huge group, that might be the case, since you always get put into the large missions, where there has to be a large objective.
Yes, I was inspired after seeing someone else make one that was far worse quality.
Closest thing to a Trex in the decals was a Chimera... lulz. I am considering premium just because I love the designer so much (and need the extra decal slots!).

This... looks pretty fun.
It amuses me that in the first video, pedestrians walk right by the guy, like nothing's wrong. He's holding an automatic weapon, in broad daylight, on the sidewalk.
Second video really makes me want to try it. I like how it LOOKS like a cops & robbers action flick. Very cool. Hopefully I don't encounter too much of the hardware/software issues so many others have.
just started this a few days ago.. on Joker (US E) server IGN: Fushida Faction: crim
pretty fun to play provided there are semi-competent team mates... most nubbies i've played with just charge into defended positions and die repeatedly.
I just went 11-2 with the STAR, against high silvers. The Star is good. In close combat you don't have to enter marksman mode and can strafe fire, while at mid range crouching and 2-3 shot bursts work best. You shouldn't be engaging in long range, you oughtta be flanking and using various objects for cover as you get into combat range.
If you want to fight long range, pick up an obeya. Using LTL will also help you learn the gunplay better, since it takes much more bullets to stun the enemy, forcing you to rely heavily on cover.
The colby PDW is an excellent short - mid range gun. Mid range fire in 2 shot bursts and it only takes like 3-4 shots to kill someone. Short range you can just hold down fire. No need to marksmen mode as this is an SMG so it doesn't gain any benefit. You can just strafe fire to your hearts content.
The JG series of shotties = 2 shots close range to kill someone, 3 semi close range. I used the JG from Copper threat to silver threat 6, and it's REALLY good. All you gotta do is play smart and use corners and such to give you some cover. Oh and they tear up vehicles.
Ntech is an okay gun I guess, I'm still not a big fan of it for some reason... but it's a 4 shot kill weapon as far as I'm aware.
HVR is also pretty damn godly. Just hide behind a ledge, acquire target, stand up, shoot, pop back down, rinse and repeat.
Also be aware there is a damage fall off at some point for all weapons. The "effective range" category in the weapon details can be used to sorta ball park this.
Of course, if you have a shitty team your own skill doesn't matter a bunch of the time. Oh and also, equip the ammo box character mod and press 5 to use it. YOu can also change your weapons when you have the box out, just hit I. It's really handy when you're soloing and you need to switch to your shotty because the objective went from an open field to some alleyways.
Game is still beta, so there are problems. Memory leaks, Lag spikes, Framerate issues, imbalance, pointless missions, hackers, etc.. The idea is great, but until it's finally polished, expect frequent rage and wtf's. It's free, so it's worth a try.

Don't aim for the head, there are no separate hit boxes in the game, damage is the same anywhere you hit.

This is all really good information. I'm curious what you think of the Joker Semi-Auto Rifle. It's one of my favorites. I'm still torn on the gun modifications. Many of them come with drawbacks that make me hesitant to use them, and most cost a ton. Any experience with the different weapon mods?

i5 is very undescriptive but a 330m isn't that good, really.
Get Happy Landings 3 asap - the fall damage completely outdoes the loss of early sprint
Get Clotting Agent 2 or 3 - depending on your weapon of choice. CA2 for mid to long range. Snipers/assault rifles CA3 for close quarter combat SMGs and shotguns
Replace the secondary to accomodate your main weapon: IE. if you're using CQC main wep pick up a long range secondary and if your using a long range main wep pick a SMG for your secondary. The starter secondary is useless replace it asap.
Get used to using Q and E for peeking around corners.
You can shoot people hiding behind cars - just look for the red cross In addition, the hitboxes in this game are abit funky, as some chars are bigger than others, but they're all the same. Aim for the stomach area for guaranteed hits.
The starter wep STAR is a perfectly viable weapon, just keep in mind it fails at longer ranges, but its a beast close to mid range. The most common weapon is currently the N-tec as its 5 consecutive hits to kill and does well at most ranges and with mods its even better.
The OCA is a good spray weapon and at close range its litterally just point shoot kill.
I remember when I played the original game that the mp5 and ak weapons (dont remember their names in the game) were really overpowered. Has anything been done to tone them down a bit in reloaded?
really fun game, played the original and play it now. I just love the customization and seeing what people come up with etc! theres so much they can do with a game like this, so hopefully the future is bright for this game.
KaotiK on Obeya EU (Criminal) if anyone wants to own sometime

I've used the SR15 minimally so far, and I like it as-is vanilla. I think maybe Improved Rifling might help. I prob wouldn't add sights to the gun, it's strength is much like the star... you can smg dance at close range and marksmen at mid range. Improved rifling would let you engage in standoffs more easily though.
Also as a note, I'm not finding the first level of upgrades really useful at all. Most of the people I've played with said to just ignore the level ones and go straight to level 2s.
How do I play with a friend? We can see each other in the social district but can't see each other in the financial district or do missions together. It's kind of gay.

Make sure you're actually in the same Instance (channel) as your friend. When you see those 3 huge bars that say, Social District, Financial District, etc., press on the tab that says Instances, and then you can join a specific channel like Action-Financial-EN2 or something.
I uninstalled this morning. I understand the allure of a free-to-play game but I still want it to be a good game. If I had paid money for this I would have been extremely upset.

Sorry to hear... . Did you play by yourself, or with friends? Because with friends, it makes the game like 10x more enjoyable.
The game definitely has issues, but imo the positives outweigh the negatives. This game offers a shooter experience that you really can't get in any other online game.
I hope the balance out the mission structure soon, as it is now it seems to favor crims.

Hit U ingame to bring up the friends menu, make sure you add one another to your friends list. Once you're friends, make sure you're both in the same district (there are instances of each district). If you just select the district you want to enter from the main screen, chances are you're in a different instance of that district than your friend. To resolve this, just pull up your friends list, and select their name, and click Join District. This can also be done at the main screen, as there's a button in the bottom left to pull up your groups/friends menu.
Every time I load up, I pull up the friends list first, to see if anyone else is playing, and if someone is, I join on their district.

I think Kerregan killed me a half dozen times last night. Good times.
Just a tip for beginners, using the change view (?) key is pretty huge in this game. I think the default is V but I switched it to middle mouse button since I use it so much now. It changes the camera to make it easier to third person camp. You have to change it when you are looking down a different way than before.
I have played this game for about 6 hours (at least that is what it says when I highlight my character on the screen ingame ) and so far I am really enjoying it. There are obviously still some things that need to be worked out, which is why it is still APB: Reloaded Beta, but the things that are still being worked on don't seem to be game breaking to me in any way.
The one thing that I seem to have a problem with is people with weapon mods. I get absolutely DESTROYED by people who are using weapon mods for some reason (I figured out that when someone is shooting at me and they have the blue bullets, or whatever you want to call them, they are using a weapon mods) and I really want to be able to beat them, because it is kinda making me a little disappointed.
I guess that leads to a related question, how do I go about getting mods for my gun? I plan to play completely F2P, as I don't really have any extra money to spend on a game right now. I know I have a lot to learn, because I have barely even scratched the surface of the game.
Besides that, I am loving it and will continue to play it even though I get destroyed a good amount of the time. Anyone looking to get into the game, know you will have to be willing to learn the ropes if you want to do decent, but anyone that plays Starcraft knows how that is so I don't think I have to go any further into that..
I play an Enforcer named Venality on the Joker server.
Hope to see some TLers out there while I am playing!

Press J and then roles. Each weapon role will unlock mods and weapons with mod slots. Level 5 for 1 shot weapon level 10 for 2. The mods are usually unlocked at level 4, 9, and 15.
Holy cow this is fun. You've got to play it with friends, because it just amplifies the fun to insane. The random objectives, the chaos, the gunfights, the sound effects (absolutely love the reverb/echo effects as things happen in the distance), and the resulting adrenaline rush makes it enormous fun to play. Not sure how much of this to credit to Gamers First, because I never played the original, but they've done an amazing job of making the game just crazy enough on its own, and allowing the players themselves to make the fun.
This game would be phenomenal if it incorporated Brink-style movement, and did so well. It's a little inconsistent that I can vault a fence (verrry smoothly, I must say-- the animation is very well done) but I can't climb onto an equally high shed. I'm no game designer, but I speculate this has to do with fences being interactable objects, and the outer walls of the buildings not.
Being able to wall hop and slide would just be extra deliciousness.
APB:R with Brink movement is like PB & Chocolate. We need someone to come along and combine the two.

Make sure you're actually in the same Instance (channel) as your friend. When you see those 3 huge bars that say, Social District, Financial District, etc., press on the tab that says Instances, and then you can join a specific channel like Action-Financial-EN2 or something.
I'm rawbb on US East, I only played for a few hours yesterday but it's really quite fun :D Still confused by a few of the UI elements but I've had a lot of fun doing missions. How do you fire out a car window?

If you're a passenger, press A or D (or W?) to lean out the corresponding window, then fire as you would normally.
I played this game a ton back when it was in it's original beta last year. Tons of fun (repetitive fun, but fun). I always got in a group as fast as possible. Too much fun cruising around in a car full of people to not do it.

Any direction (WASD) will do it, assuming you aren't using a weapon that you can't use out a window, like a sniper or shotgun, but in that case, just switch to your secondary, and then you can hang with the cool kids.
Also, What faction are you? I added you to the directory, but I don't have your faction.
wow This game looks really more and more amazing, I cant just watch anymore, Downloading now! I'll be on East (Joker) server I guess since it seems more people are on there atm.
This Character customization is certainly superior to that found in EVE. What lures me in to a game is the character customization; I like to spend a week just creating different characters and trying endless possibilities and combination. I think I'm sold in this game :D
Now that I have 10 hours played on my Enforcer, I am thinking of switching to a criminal full time before I get the Enforcer too high. Although the Enforcer is already rank 39 and I don't wanna get rid of everything I have done on it for those 10 hours .
Should I stay Enforcer, go with the Crim I made tonight, or play both?
Okay, the tutorial was really really boring. Game runs smooth for about 15-30mins and then starts to die on me. 5-10 seconds of 'freeze' time. Regardless of the texture quality. Which really makes this game unplayable. Thanks to that an my general ability to suck at aiming caused me to win not a single mission so far. Well my graphics card is a three years old GTS8600. Still expected to be able to play on minimum settings. =/
A pity since the customisation is really superb. =)
edit: just remembered: the installer even said, i could play with my pc. damned lies. =/
The game is EXTREMELY cpu and memory intensive. So as long as you have a good quad core and 4 gig ram + it should be a smooth experience.
CPU and memory is the main bottlekneck for low fps because there are 100 players with customization + npcs that are being updated in real time at the same time, thats a MASSIVE strain on these components.
Hmm... sounds reasonable, would explain while it runs smooth for a while on all the texture quality levels. Ram shouldn't be a problem got 4gig ddr3. But I only have a good dual core not a quad.
Maybe I had too much stuff running in the background, will try again later.

I have one of the best dual cores on the market ( 3,16ghz) and it doesnt run well on it.
You really need a quad core for this game.
And I'm not speaking out of my ass. I was specificly told by a G1 dev on APB that I needed to change my CPU to up my FPS/fix combat stuttering because its the main bottlekneck for this game.
A good way to troubleshoot your performance issues is to try to adjust the video settings inside APB.
If max or min settings gives you the same fps/stuttering it's safe to say its because of your CPU/HDD.
A slow HDD can also give stuttering because there are so many texture files to load as you're playing in a 100 man district with that amount of customzation. So a simple defragmentation can fix this issue.
Well i tried this game today, and its just retarded, you get missions like to defend stuff 4v4 usualy, and everyone is just camping with snipers on the rooftops, and its so hard to kill sniper with rifle when you die from 2 hits..

maybe that's when you start working as a team. usually when a team attempts communication and goes in with the simplest plan will destroy the teams that just run in 1 by 1 to die.
game definitely looks like it has promise, haven't even tried the customization yet but would love the TL logo. considering it's beta, it's a pretty fun experience, and probably will be better when more variety goes into the missions.
APB is fun, the fun amplifies the amount of friends you have playing and the amount of friends you have that have mics. For some reason it gets more fun the more hectic it gets. Also beware of griefers they make ur life a living hell in APB.
Also APB physics is so broken its fun rammed a charger into a dumptruck and the charger flew onto a roof top and just camped there with the item for the mission.
I recommend everybody that can play this game to at least give it a try. Its a fun easy game to play but difficult to master. The cash shop items are not in anyway overpowered unless you're still playing in the low tier stuff. High tier stuff the guns that you can make and create are way better than the guns you buy with cash shop. The only gun that I find slightly annoying is the whisper because I never know when I get shot and just fall over on the floor spontaneously.
Seriously if you have any doubts of wanting to play, just play it. Its hard not to like this game. There are some issues with the optimization of the game since there isn't any but it's still highly addicting and fun
i tried this game out the other day and i completely agree with the post above me. solo it's ok for 2-3 hours, but then i think you need friends with you on VoIP (haven't tried that yet though T_T) to make the missions really fun.
it looks and feels like a free to play title though, so it won't have the sickest long term playability. but i would definitely be up for a few games with TL guys. not sure by which name you add but my character is "NatashaFar" on USEast (Joker(?)). maybe i'll add a few people who gave out their nicks in this thread and see if we can get on TS and kill some noobs (i'm a noob too though ).
Yeah this game is not made for soloing, in fact the developers have stated that they want to move away from that as much as possible because the core design just isn't made for soloing.
If you really want to enjoy the game you NEED friends to play with. Its a serious flaw in the game, but it is what it is.

It's not a serious flaw, it's a PvP game. So, get out there, make some friends and have a blast.

Agreed.. the 1vs1 tends to be pretty boring. Ive had a couple sweet epic 1vs1 but they are very rare. The 2vs2+ are usually always a blast though! Total chaos, cars flying and explosions everywhere. In a good way that is
And it is all a lot more fun if the people you are playing with are friends on voip.
Make your own group of friends! I guarantee the person you just did a 2v2 with was looking for a larger group size when he queued up, too. Doing constant 4v4s is an epic amount of fun. It can be frustrating to get thrown against group after group of people with some seriously overpowered guns, though.
Larger battles probably wouldn't work. It's hard enough taking down 4 guys camped up in some high-ground around the objective. Imagine 8, 12, 20! It would just be a duck-shoot for all the snipers and campers out there. 4v4 leaves enough room for some skill and luck to penetrate the area and take the objective, which in-turn provides more excitement and chaos. I've been through a lot of clutch moments this weekend where it seemed like they were going to hold the objective until the timer ran out, but we pulled a fluke out of our asses, killed all of them in a short timespan and completed it. Fortunately, when that doesn't happen, losing isn't the end of the world and you can dive straight into the next awesome firefight.
I feel like larger fights would just turn out like WoW battlegrounds; exactly the same boring thing over and over again. But, I could be wrong. That could be more of problem with the same objectives, groupthink and Blizzard wanting to have absolute control, rather than allowing chaos to reign, like in APB.
Out of curiosity, what's the difference between a silver gun and the gold gun when you look at their stats on the scoreboard? Do the gold ones mean it was a permanent one (bought for like $60!), or something else?
Oh and if I buy something in the Beta, it'll keep with my account in the full thing, right? I want to give these guys some money for something, because I haven't had this much fun since WoW vanilla BGs (well, and intermittant games of L4D2 and SC2, to be fair). Dunno what to buy, though. Getting a gun would just ruin the fun of progression.
trying again and again, did a mission today, needed to steal something, the door was only accesible by 2 ladders, well guess what the other team did, parked 2 cars infront so you couldn't get up. saw that alow people driving cars up to doors to block people

Use grenades to remove the cars. Resupply with your field kit, and use grenades to remove them from the top of the ladder.
These situations aren't impossible, they just require teamwork. Get a mic and turn on your VOIP ingame. Your experience will improve.

It's actually hilarious having larger battles. This can occur when one team calls for backup and the system gives them a full group of 3+, which then gives the other team the option to call for backup, and the game can continue to escalate. Funnest game I've had was a match between 6 of us Enforcers, and 9 Crims. Managed to win it, but it was so chaotic I loved every minute of it.

You are correct that the CPU is the main bottleneck, but completely wrong in saying that you need a quad core.
I have a Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.6GHZ and I'm easily maintaining 50-60 frames per second at 1680x1050 on maximum settings with 4 x AA and 8 x AF.

I have buddies that I play with regularly so if anybody PMs me in game I should be able to hook you up because I rarely play solo. Also the Threat system is hella broken

Progressing through different contacts and unlocking achievements/roles are some of the things you need to do to increase rating.
I just installed the game and on the Joker Server as an Enforcer member. I tried to make my character look like Carl Winslow from Family Matters, but I did a horrible job at customizing his face, hahaha! Anyways, my ID is Lawful01. I sent a PM to all the Enforcers currently on the OP's list on the Joker Server.
Looking forward to playing with you guys.
Cheers!
P.S. I have no idea what to do. The streets outside of the lobby seems chaotic. The cars act like they're in a demolition derby, and I hear rampant gunfire everywhere... What have I gotten myself into?

They're witnessing you. If an Enforcer spots you being an intergalactic space douchebag to the good citizens of <insert district here>, they can press Alt to witness you, and that immediately flags them for combat with you.
You've gotta be more sneaky than to jack someone's car in front of an Enforcer!

Man, I'm in like a back alley, and they just stalk me sometimes. -.-
Is it just me or is it pretty hard to unlock cars? Ive played about 20 hours now and Im still using the first car.. I think Ive only unlocked 5 cars total or something. From what I remember, in the original APB it was a lot easier to get new cars unlocked.
Ive looked at the contacts tree and to get the cars I want is going to take a lot of time. Am I missing something or?
Umm, I think i've played around like 12 hours I got like 6 cars unlocked. But unfortunately not the ones that I want. You have to check the contacts for what they unlock and work to get them. ie. I want the Bushida Rapier (sp?) and its unlocked by Javez lvl 10, so i'm working for that.
Also I've seen people use the Joker SR-15 (I think thats what it is) Is it good? Are Semi-auto rifles good in general? I find that with ARs i just spray too much.

They have their place, but the problem with them is that Improved Rifling, being the only upgrade tied to them, is mostly useless. You really have to commit yourself to a line of weapons to level up the role in order to unlock the 2 and 3 slotted versions, and it just sucks that Improved Rifling is the only upgrade you get out of it, as opposed to the Rifleman Hunting Sight and the Pointman Reflex Sight and Cooling Jacket. I suppose you could always buy the upgrades you want on the marketplace, but they can be really expensive.
I prefer a close-range primary and a long-range secondary instead of vice versa because it usually isn't difficult to force close range fights (Colby PMG + ACT44 is my preferred combo). The close-range secondaries like the NFA-9 are amazing when you're basically clipped into the opponent's player model but it just isn't versatile.
The Joker Carbine is kind of the exception to the long-range primaries since it's a jack-of-all-trades. If you get good with the rhythm it's a deadly weapon, but that doesn't change the fact that you're probably going to get ripped by an SMG up close.

Thats true, from what I've experienced (not a lot) I have the Obeya, and it fairs pretty well mid range but then I get dominated by ARs/SMGs at close range unless i get some free shots on them. Most of the missions I get are somehow rooftop related so, I find the damage + range to be nice. Also I have this thing called a Field Supplier (?) And I don't know how to use it lol.

so I've tried this game out for some 14 hours now, and I don't quite get it. from what I have noticed all you have to do is buy a shotgun, attempt to run people over and if you miss just jump out and shoot them. Is this all there is or am I missing something?

I think you're dumbing it down a bit too much. There's not a lot of tactical gameplay involved if you're playing solo and just running around with a shotgun.. Try to join a group or play with someone you know, it's a lot more enjoyable then.

That's a good way to win a battle that happens in the middle of the street. How do you run over a sniper, and ultimately clear the area to capture the objective or keep doing that to guard it? Like the poster above says, you're kind of looking at it through a narrow scope.

Sounds exactly like when I beta tested it ~2 years ago. :/
I'm redownloading it now for another try though. The game has so much potential. I really hope they'll pull it off this time.
Group play is what I've been doing ever since I left the tutorial missions, but it seems impossible to do anything about the car into close position shotgun play, unless you get a shotgun yourself (or a RPG but that's pretty useless otherwise ). it just seems very broken atm (yes I realize it's a beta but still it's the core element of the game). So far I haven't had trouble with snipers they are too easy to line of sight and the number of positions for a sniper seem very limited. (mostly played the bay area) However I like the VoIP feature they have, in fact the sound overall in the game is kind of insane. With a little bit better of a level design I'm sure it would be perfectly fine but almost every mission so far has been very close combat oriented. I'll give it another 24ish hours of game play, maybe it gets better later on.

Nice nose dive there by the way
Shotguns are only a very small part of the game. Sure, close-quarter-combat is a very important part of the game because you have to walk to places and pick things up etc. but it's really all about learning positioning when you get a bit more experience. Using a sniper when you are on a defend mission in a wide area is much more beneficial, so always remember to switch weapons based on the mission and your opponents.
And also, like others have pointed out, play with friends if you can. Being able to coordinate attacks and use "special tactics " makes the game so much more enjoyable than just run around with randoms and see who can kill the most players.

I usually play as a sniper. There are a ton of "secret" areas where you can climb up to in order to get a better view with a sniper. Also what rank do you play on? I'm silver 8 at the moment, and I think it's a nice mix between opponents that play tactically, hackers, lamers and more casual players.
I also don't really see the whole shotgun thing? I've only seen a couple of shotgun users, and they're extremely situational. I can usually kill them off with my sidearm or by cooking a grenade before entering a room.
I think the level design is rather good, I've played both of the APB beta versions, and it gives me a clear advantage to actually know where stuff is. There's a lot of little tricks and such that will easily give you the advantage over any opponent purely by knowing the map/surroundings.
I hope that you find the game more enjoyable as you play! I think it's a good game that's received a lot of loving from GamersFirst, and I hope it doesn't go down the drain like it did with RTW.

I'll give it another 24ish hours of game play, maybe it gets better later on.
Nice nose dive there by the way
I usually play as a sniper.
APB:R's success is going to be on how successfully they can rip cash out of people's wallets. The $60 gun prices at the moment are just frigging ridiculous - a full price of a game just for ONE permanent weapon in this one, yet I see like 1 out of 4 people using the things.
Don't get the permanent weapons (the ones that costs 60 bucks) confused with the leased ones you get for ALOT less - around 3-4 bucks for a 30 day lease.
On that tangent, before people start the "Pay2win" - the weapons leased are in no way superior to anything you can obtain in-game altho it requires some effort to get the equivalent/better versions. Yes, I know the OCA "Whisper" is silenced but really, with the low effective range on that wep it doesnt matter wether or not you can hear where its coming from and the shooter will still pop up on your minimap so no excuse there.
Sorry if I come across abit angry, but I'm sick of listening to new players whining in /district about balance when really all they want is another CoD/Halo/CS clone. This game is all about teamwork and adjusting to the situation at hand. If anything this game in terms of weapons - perhaps with the exception of the Ntec - are all extremely well-balanced. Ther's a HARD-counter to any weapon you just gotta be smart when either attacking or defending. Ie. someone camping with HVR? Flank him with any close/mid range wep. Someone holed up with an OCA/shotgun? Force him out of position with nades and outrange him with your ntec/obeya/obir. Remember you've got a field supplier for free that'll allow you to change your setup in litterally seconds during missions. I generally swap loadout 2-3 times on average missions. And not only weapons - thers a massive difference between clotting agent 2 and 3 for instance.
Right rant over - oh and to OP i play enforcer on Patriot EU (its an english server - afaik ther arnt any european specific language servers yet - if that makes sense? =)
Oh that's true. I assumed they were all the permanent ones, but probably not. It's a good sign, though. The popularity of the things should help generate a lot of revenue and allow the game to run much longer than the original.
I remade a character named 'rawb' as a criminal on US East. I've been playing around with my friend Ferrous, he isn't registered on TL but we're both about mid-silver on this ingame ranking thing (i have no idea what it means rofl) after about 6 hours of play.
Considering the game is based heavily off teamwork, I'm surprised that most of my teammates don't even speak nor type. After 15 hours of gameplay, I've noticed a severe lack of teamwork among public groups. In two days I've met only two others who use the mic to actually coordinate with the rest of the team. I'm only guessing this is prevalent throughout all the servers and all ranks? If so, I anticipate a quick uninstall in the near future.
It's a shame considering how much promise this game holds. It's not the hackers, griefers, nor trolls who annoy me, but an overwhelming sense of.... lack of communication. I feel like the professor who is teaching a course and no one is responding to his or her questions.
I love this game, I played it from the RTWs beta all the way up untill the servers shut down and then started in G1s closed beta and I'm still at it.
The game still has issues but the basics of it is awesome imo. The next patch (1.5.2) that was planned for today but got delayed by "Some period" (G1s version of Valve time and Blizzards "soon") should hopefully fix alot of things. New threat lvl district recommendation system (basicly puts higher TL players in the same district so the matchmaking gets alot more ppl of similar TL to work with) aswell as 70+ mission fixes,

MMO3PS? MMOTPS?

I fucking LOVE this game, Telecom told me about it like 4 days ago and I have been playing it for 4 days straight
I'm HackOmikron on Colby (US-West), Criminal, usually rollin around with my 2 roomies.
So much fun stuff you can do in this game. It's awesome that other people can hear your music too. Can't wait to roll my SUV out with Rick Astleys face on the hood and "Never Gonna Give You Up" blaring... RickRollin Dirty son!

Lmao, someone had that as a victory tone, so everytime we won, we got rickrolled too. LOL
Is it worth getting premium? How much does it cost? Cause I was thinking about getting premium, but just premium. Cause I probably wont buy any guns, i'll just have it for extra customization-ability and what not. AFAIK putting like only 7 symbols on the car and like 3 symbols on clothing is very limiting. :/

If you're going to be playing this game every day for a few hours, then yea its worth it. The 30% bonus u get from missions really add up. Also if you like to customize ur characters then the premium is also worth it. IF you do a really good job you can sell your clothes for money

The benefit to premium is the increased rep and money gains from missions (+30%, I believe) and a largely increased number of decals/symbols on your clothing/vehicle/character in the designer. Not really worth it if you're looking for guns, imo, since you'd be better off just getting the guns than premium. I've been tempted for a long time to go Premium, just for the designer, but I think it's ~$10/month.
Unfortunately, I'm in a clan with a bunch of friends on Colby Enforcer, but I created a TeamLiquid Clan on Colby Criminal. Feel free to message me ingame for an invite. (Check OP for character name) Hope to play with you all soon!

It's within the 25 object limit, but barely. I think I'm going to have to get premium to do some of the other stuff I want to do. I'd like to do team logos, etc sometime.

Oooh... So happy this game is becoming more popular among TL users. I've only met TacoBueno from TL, and just added Gwen and Mazurek and am really hoping to play with you guys soon. By the way, if you guys have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us. I'm on Joker daily since I'm on break from school.
It's a very enjoyable game, and really deserving of a decent following of players... the only real complaint I can make is some other players seem to think that if they lose the other team is hacking, and they need to call them out in district chat... otherwise the gameplay and free roaming is fun, and the customization of your theme and logos makes you feel really diverse in the game.
If your having trouble playing the game, their are several config files you can use to increase performance. I was playing on low, but now i play on medium with high resolution. Also, the configs increase your FPS. Also their are several hotfixes for crashing problems.

Perhaps try right-clicking on your config file, click Properties, and then check the 'Read-only' box in the Attributes section?

Starting the game through the launcher causes everything but APBMachineOptions.ini to rewrite. If you want to use custom configs, you need to launch through APB.exe, but you need extra parameters.

On July 06 2011 09:51 corpuscle wrote: I figured out the part about bypassing the launcher, but out of curiosity, what do the "lbl" and "-pktlag=0" parameters do?
Something to do with latency. Back in RTW (the company that actually made the game) time, they said to add those parameters if you launch directly from the exe, as the launcher assigns them when it starts the exe.
Honestly, I don't know if Gamersfirst changed that, but back in RTW times you would actually go up 300+ ping if you didn't have the parameters.
The concussion grenade landed decently far away, and was uncooked, giving me plenty of time to run away. I kept ducking behind cover as he sprayed and prayed, allowing my health to recover a bit before he ran around and sprayed again.
The above all happened during a mission culminating in a king of the hill match with 8 lives each. The guy refused to take the point and instead drove around in circles for 8 minutes, waiting until the last 30 seconds to run around at the point hoping I couldn't hit him while he capped. Killed him easily, then decided to answer his question afterwards.
I'm assuming he was pissed because he was all armed to the teeth and kept losing to little ol' me with my beginner's STAR rifle. It seems like alot of people underestimate the fact that the majority of this game is about the vantage point or approach you take around to an objective and not necessarily about the weapons you have. If you can manage to surprise your opponent such that you're getting 2-3 seconds worth of lead filled into him without a response, you're probably going to kill him regardless of his loadout.
That said there are times where toe to toe fights are just inevitable and you're just not going to win with inferior weapons.
Well obviously he knows his stuff, Ohio hackers from Starcraft fan sites are a very common occurrence. This man has probably read the many reports on this situation.

You guys can't go around making it even more obvious that everyone in TL is a hacker. If this keeps up we're all going to have to just start a new clan. Geeeeeeeez.
Ignore the whisperer's, I get several hackusations a day. It's even better when I'm on my enforcer for once and am arresting people. THAT makes people rage :D
BTW, I'm looking for some people to play enforcer with on Joker. All the people I play with don't want to make a new character. Cumlips is the name
Hi Lokgar, I'll add you once I'm online today. You had to choose such a revolting name for your character? Hahaha! We played a match against your criminal team before, and I believe you were the one who told me that you were TL.
Anyways, time for a little picture update:
My new ride is already attracting all the ladies.
Funniest s*** I've seen yet. The van even had a swastika drawn on the hood. Notice the weapon I'm holding. I believe the gun is produced by Israel in real life?

The Uzi is made by Israeli weapons manufacturers. As is the Galil and Tar-21 most notably, but those arent in the game so yeah <_<

Well yah, once I discovered the lipstick feature that looks like my name... it was only natural.
Updating. It'll take about 30 minutes. I haven't actually played this game before, so I'm probably going to screw around in the editor for more than an hour.

We notorious hackers need to stick together How else would we get people so obsessed with us they drop everything they're doing to run into our cars for a solid half hour?
I've played with Taco, Lawful & cumlips so far (and maz but he doesn't count), and I gotta say I'm pretty jealous of how awesome your characters are! Hope to get a full party going sometime.
Don't play much because of how broken the game is etc but I can really understand how having a team of people to play with changes the experience. I'm thinking of creating the TL EU clan for criminals, will post again if I get around to it!
Oh and also is there anyway for me to get that TL logo off you without being on the same server? Would love to use it but I don't think I could make it on my own in that little editor, not really used it. ^^

How is the FPS drops now on this new version of APB?

Lol my crim teammates will argue the exact opposite. However, I think both have an equal chance of getting crappy spawns .
I'm playing on East from west coast US and I ping 120~150, and that is pretty playable. The game isn't super twitchy so having super low ping isn't as important.

Not sure about how it's improved over this week, but it's definitely gotten better; there are still lag spikes and they last around 5-10 seconds.
There's still no matchmaking though as I found out last night, me and my 2 in-training friends who just started the game. We got matched vs a team of 4, all level 175+ all with premium weapons, level 3 clotting agent, level 3 happy landings.

If you are using a 32bit system then here's a fix.
The 3GB Switch
Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator. At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072" Restart the computer.
To Disable the 3GB Switch , Type :
"bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa" - Without the " of course
Me and a LOT of other people have this problem in APB, it whores memory - taking more and more as time goes on, even though they claim there's no memory leak. (There clearly is.)
My advice even after doing this fix is RESTART the game if you play for any more than an hour or two at once, otherwise it will start destroying your pc.
Is the game worth picking up? I am looking for another time waster on top of TF2, BFBC2 and SC2. I am a fan of shooters, 3rd person action games and long time fan of GTA series? Are there some videos that should get me convinced?
The game seemed like it had potential but the tutorial/starter zone didn't have anyone to fight so i can't speak for the PVP yet.
The actual gameplay seems pretty repetitive and lacking (ie: in order to mug someone, you have to first put on your brass knuckles, then punch them while they just stand there waiting for it.... ok lol) Stealing stuff (large stuff) is really tedious seeming (there could be a way to make it faster, i just don't know it.)
Once I moved into a real zone the lag was incredible, I have an excellent connection and computer but the lag was literally unplayable. So, that being said, i don't have much experience with the game outside of the tutorial so take it for what it's worth.
Game name is: Marzyn, NA EAST server
EDIT: Forgot to add that I'm a bad guy :D Criminal
Woot so many more people joining the NA east server enforcers :3
Yeah the lag was horrid a couple of days ago, lost some easily winnable situations because of it (Sorry Taco!) I think the server restart they did cleared it for the most part, but it's not going to surprise me too much if issues continue, this game has it's share of polishing left before it's done.
There also seems to be another issue going around where your rank goes down when you win sometimes, so a ton of players are back down in the bronze threat even though they may be badasses haha.
Hope to see some of you newly transferring players around, my in-game name is Gwen incase you didn't go through every post on the thread. I'd be playing right now, but MLG is on hehe.

A (late) update in case anyone havnt completely lost interest in this little (free2play might i add) gem:
I can say this: 1.5.3 is going to be a big cheat patch to deal with the cheating, 1.5.4 is going to have the new contacts and additional areas in the waterfront and financial districts, and we may have a 1.5.5 -- we haven't determined that yet. Patch 1.6 is going to be clan warfare, and that's the patch we're going to launch with. Jon-Enee Merriex aka Neume aka the guy who knows everything apb related.
Hackers are definatly the bane of this game no doubt about it. But I still have some faith that they'll get it right at some point. For the time being I've stopped renewing my premium and only ever log on to play on US servers - JOKER especially seems really decent still and compared to Patriot EU its more or less hack free and the few hackers I've come across have been very poor skillwise so can recommend that server even for people in the EU. I'm running with a steady 100ms which is perfectly fine with ocasional "rubber banding" (isnt that what they call it?)
Secondly: clan warfare is still the mainreason I stick around - I can't wait for organised battles - setting up 4 v 4s on public servers is just so much hassle and almost always ends in some sort of QQ. Doesn't help that the APB community is one of the worst I've ever encountered. Guess thats what happens when MMO and FPS people clashes.
Anyway I'm Calliopee on Patriot, Colby and Joker so hit me up if you want a game =) (mid to high gold but can make a new toon if needed)
G1 are now consistantly banning cheaters that come back , even on legit accounts. So they're really trying their hardest to regain some trust from people who quit because of cheaters.
That said, paranoia is actually way worse than cheaters in APB right now, since the game has character progression but is HEAVILY skill based people will always gravitate towards cheat accusing if they get owned by some low rating(low gear) gold player.
Almost every single time me and my friend plays on Obeya we get cheat accused because we're low rating and high gold using stock weapons with zero upgrades, which for alot of ignorant people is a red flag for a cheater.
So my tip for new players, don't get hung up on upgrades or weapons. The game is heavily skill based. Aim, teamwork and knowing the map/gamesense is critical to your success, not what weapon/upgrade you happen to have.
You can't buy yourself skill, so just practice more and watch youtube videos or twitch streams of good players to pick up some tips and tricks.
Edit: The one thing i can advice you to look for if you're facing a cheater, especially an aimbot, is that if he's "snapping". This pretty much means that if you and your teammate show yourselves against the aimbotter and he INSTANTLY switches targets and starts shooting after killing the first guy. It looks really strange and akward so yeah, look for that.
Wallhackers are alot harder to "prove" for players because the game is so heavily based on being able to pan your 3rd person camera around the enviroment, knowing the common camp sites and just in general knowing how certain missions/maps are designed.
Also if you're having bad PC performance I recommed getting a good CPU, CPU is by far the most important component for this game.
Obviously memory is big too, 4 at the absolute minimum. I recommend more though.
reviving this since it released a couple of days ago officially on Steam platform.
There is also a 10-day free premium trial i guess. Started a few days ago and must say thats its a really fun game. Some say the old one was better and g1 killed it but i have no comparison. Find it funny and the customisation options are just insane.
i know last time i played and last i heard is cheaters are pretty rampent with wall hacks and aim bots. does anyone know if they have gotten better at stoping the hacks
On January 28 2012 15:06 epik640x wrote: This is a pretty sick game, I'm surprised it's not more popular.
It's not popular because it has a bad reputation from its initial launch, which is a real shame. The game is amazing, has great customization, is rather balanced, and has a very dedicated staff to taking down hackers.
I really wish this game would relaunch under a totally new name to give it another chance.
I'm really sorry for bumping this thread. But I have a problem I've tried so many things (Google, Youtube and APB: Reloaded forum) but none of them can fix my problems. The problem is: I can play the game between 10-30min before I get disconnected with the message Punkbuster is out of date. And yes I have tried to update my punkbuster (Evenbalance.com) and I have also tried to unistalled punkbuster and start up the game again, to install it again. None of it worked. Maybe one of you guys, who still play this game can help me? :-)
EDIT: I just found out that I needed to reinstall the whole game, because it had made some kind of mistakes. :S It's fix now. I will like to thank my mom and my grandmother!
