Many of you might remember the 2007 vista/xbox 360 game shadowrun.
This game was by far my favorite shooter of all time and I was thinking about buying the game for my computer along with a lot of friends. My question is simple, has anyone on TL played shadowrun in the last few weeks that can confirm or deny if it still has an online community/ is even playable. There were rumors of servers getting shut down back in 2008 and I could not find any recent forums to address this question online.
Also if you have it working for Windows 7 that would also be a big help is that is my operating system ^^
Thanks in advance TL you are going to make this nerd very happy.

Sorry but bump, I really want to find this out asap

According to those two threads, you can find a couple of games at night these days. Maybe last year or earlier, the game was still going strong on the XB360, and one one of the better things about this game is the fact that you can play on 360 servers with the PC version so if you can find games on the 360 you will probably be able to find games for the PC.
You know what though, if you look around the forums there are actually a couple of threads saying that the game is pretty dead most of the time, so I don't know if you are willing to buy a cheap game if it is only gonna be played at a certain time of the day.
If I might have a word though? You might want to save yourself some trouble if you are going to get the PC version though, as PC players are significantly disadvantaged through different means in an attempt by the developers to even up the playing field between PC gamers and console gamers. From what I've played of the 360 version, it was pretty fun and I'm assuming you have it for the 360 since it was your favorite shooter. I'd say just stick with the 360 version (or buy it for the 360 if I assumed wrong) and tell your friends to get it for the 360 if they can, or the PC if they must.

Give Brink a try, It's a little like shadowrun... I love that game, came out just before Lost Planet - my fav of all time

Get the 360 version. Get onto the general games section of MLG. MLG had shadowrun on the circuit and the only shadowrun community that plays serious customs now is on there.
EDIT: playing pubs is still possible as well btw, but it's going to be a community of around 100 people. i played it 6 months ago for the last time and there are times of day nothing will be found. That's why you should contact people on the MLG forums that still play.

I was actually lined up to go to mlg right before they dropped it, was on a team and everything =(
I had played it for 360 about a year ago and I ended up playing the same 5 people in every game so I guess its dead through and through. The day of a fun shooter might be over for me.
Thanks though you have saved me a great deal of trouble

Shadowrun is also my favorite shooter of all time. I play it on a more regular basis than any other console shooter.
The online is not dead, but is not terribly active. On a good day, I'll have no trouble going from match just as fast as I would on a regular day of Halo or CoD. But, on a bad day, I sometimes have to wait a few minutes (or quite a bit more than, "a few." Closer to 10-20 on a horrible day) for a match. Shadowrun players a dedicated few. You will very commonly find the same people if you play consistently for a while (this is great if you make friends easily, terrible if you make more enemies).
There are also active clan matches and a more competitive scene behind private matches, but these can be rare. When they do happen, though, I assure you, they are epic.

I came here thinking it was SNES Shadowrun... that game was amazing =~
Are they related somehow?
Or two different games? (is that even possible, to have different games with the same name?)

Or two different games? (is that even possible, to have different games with the same name?) The shooter is based off the world/lore of the RPG, but as games, they're completely different. (Obviously) Different genres, different creators, just similar worlds/characters/premise (magic and technology advanced fighters in a mythical world).

I think both the FPS and the old (and awesome) RPGs were based on a pen and paper rpg. I wish somebody would make another RPG in the setting, though I'm not sure who owns the license at this point.

Maybe we can get this thread to turn into a TL shadowrun team.
For those whom have never played I would call it the fastest paced, most unique shooter of all time, at least for the 360.
I really wish Microsoft did not drop the game, I still find myself thinking how much I would love shadowrun 2

I really love this game, too bad I was absolutely awful still have it and it takes about an hour to find a game though..
Elf player, my brother is a troll(tank)

i loved that game...would play again... i have it on pc tho

I happen to be an avid Shadowrun (RPG) player and GM.
As of now the game is in its 4th Edition, books tend to be hard to find, but the setting is really interesting. I run a campaign that started in 2005 and we play like 5-10 times each year... Last session we played was last week :-)

Hi, sorry for bumping a 2 year old thread but I think it's relevant.
Shadowrun 2007 is STILL ALIVE, people. Whoever was saying it was dead 2 years ago was wrong - I've been playing it almost everyday for 6 years and i think i've only ever been unable to find a game twice, and that was sometime back in 2010 and probably due to my connection.
There was even a new Shadowrun 2007 website created a few months ago called "shadowrunshow.com" which is running weekly tournaments with between 8 and 20 players a time. Ok so it's not massive but I think it's amazing there is still this much of an active community 6 years since Shadowrun was released.
So any of you who miss the greatest, most unique online arena fps get back on it - it's very much alive for both PC and Xbox players. (although shitty Microsoft are ending GFWL support for it sometime in '14) However it will still be running on Xbox from then.
I would also like to correct whoever stated that PC players have a disadvantage in Shadowrun 2007 - due to higher framerate and graphics on PC, Any player with a decent computer will have a varying advantage over Xbox players. I know this from experience. Luckily the vast majority of players are on Xbox so it doesn't pose much of a problem. I should also add the Microsoft broke the audio codec on PC (so Xbox players can't hear PC players in-game). I would recommend getting it on Xbox rather than PC.
In answer to OP, yes Shadowrun 2007 runs on Win7. Theres a guide on how to get it working on Shadowrunshow.com in the forums.
Oh and BlueBird, I'm glad you stuck with the game - I still see you around in public matches from time to time.
Other recognisable players you'll probably meet online - PINPOINTASSOC, iJande, AnnunakiWarrior, easyjthis, LebowskiChild, consistive, GTx Gamer, Speed8allin, Hammastanko, Gits TK and many more. Most of the community have been playing since release so there is a steep learning curve to the game, however lots of players are helpful and will assist new players.
- a soggy fish
