Completedit in about 3.5 hours on my first try, wasn't that hard tbh. Great game though, going for the Co-Op now!

oh comon why do people keep pulling those unrealistic numbers.
afair the complete time of a edited video guide on a german site was around 3 hours or something.
but thats WITHOUT loading times, any nonpuzzle parts, any talk/story parts etc.
so unless you have zero load time, skipped all talking, found some shortcuts and immediatly beat evry single puzzle with the very first glance that time is impossible.

U Sure? Cause I can definitely see this being finished by a skilled player under 4 hours. Like I said it took me a little more than 5 hours and I wasted at least 45 mins trying to find walls to put my portal on in the 'off road' areas.
So I don't really doubt his statement.
The challenges in Single Player are indeed not that hard. You kind of see what's to do in nearly every chamber. Thus, a chamber takes about 2-4 mins without thinking.
edit: youtube speedruns without glitches finish the game in like 2 hours....so he has double the time!

Speedruns obviously aren't playing the game for the first time.
That other guy is claiming he picked up the game for the first time and blew threw it in a speed-run level of time.
Assuming he did do that, there is no way he took even a min to enjoy the story/world.

speedruns =/= playing first time.
i dont doubt that you can blast thru the game in less then 3.5 hours. but i seriiously doubt anyone just runs through all the puzzles and "find that one portal wall spot" parts seeing all the stuff the first time. and if you even somewhat listen to all the voiceacting its just impossible.

I know that speedruns aren't first play through but I really think most of the chambers can be completed in a somehow comparable time to a speedrun the first time if you really rock at this game. you obviously lose some minutes at some parts, but then again, you have double the time.
voice acting takes place while you're elevating.
Like I said, took me ~5 hours (and I'm not as skilled) and I gotta feeling I was stupidly slow at some parts. I'd say really skilled player can finish under 4.
why do people always have to claim that others are lying? why should he do that? Just to claim how good he is? If that's the case, it really would be sad...
*hopes that this guy is not trolling or lying and is defended by me* :D

i mean yeah its doable in 4-5 hours on your first go. But are you exploring Ratman's dens? Are you listening to every bit of Wheatley's lines. There are a ton of skippable lines that are absolute gold. Did you destroy all the monitors? Those are puzzles on to themselves.
Enjoy the game!

Yeah, I'am not saying there's nothing left to do. I personally don't enjoy those dens that much. And I tried to listen to every line of Glados and wheatley's (loved the hacker stuff) within my 5 hours, although the German dubbing is not as great as the original version....
Don't get me wrong, I DID enjoy this game a lot. But it was a brief experience....I think that opinion is valid. nuff said

I would say the story mode itself is worth a buy on sale. Something around 40 or 50 bucks. The multi might boost it up and allow for the heavy price tag but I wouldnt know.
Just a fantastic game

In an attempt to derail the thread back to about Portal 2 and not about speedruns, I'll go ahead and say that it was a kickass game. I don't know how long it took me to beat, but I sure as hell enjoyed it by taking my time and trying to find all the ratman dens and background stories.

It's actually tested how long a game can be played. So when they say 6 and a 1/2 hours, that is what it is. As a Q&A tester, when you play a game 8 hours a day for months or a year on end. You play the game faster than most, if not all, players/gamers.
Mercenaries 2, Just Cause 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum. The guys I tested those games with blazed through it incredibly fast.
Valve actually has no Q&A testers, the devs are the testers, which means an even higher degree or playing the game at an incredible pace.

finished this recently.
A work of art. Throughly enjoyed the characters as much as the gameplay.
|
I've played through Portal 2 3 times at this point (mostly because I'm bored and I find the script alone is reason enough to keep me entertained) but I've never bothered to time how fast I can go through it... maybe I should. Not going for a "SPEEDRUN FIND EVERY SHORTCUT" kind of playthrough but quickly nonetheless.

Great voice acting makes this game top notch. Wheatley is the man. Had to think for a minute before placing Stephen Merchent's voice from the Ricky Gervais show.
|
I sped run through it the first time. Turned off the sound and jammed with Grooveshark. Honestly, I could care less about the story, I'm just in it for the puzzles.

People that think like this are the reasons single player games are becoming less interesting....stories make the game more enjoyable than anything else. The dialog in this game add 50% to the overall experience :D

you must've been disappointed in portal 2 then 'cause the puzzles were quite mediocre. =\ like the dude above me said, the story (or the dialogue at least) is what makes portal so amazing.
