The one with the ghost and killer bees might have been your best chance-- maybe summon a bunch of imps and take the stairs, the dance go up. The ghost won't follow you, and crimson imps have rpois.

I suggest 16 evocations for nemelex, since I think at realistic piety levels that guarantees power 2 effects from legendary decks (and I think 15 doesn't). Also 16 evo gets your rod of inacc down to 5 hunger cost (the minimum) instead of 10 so it's a reasonable place to get to for that too.
Anyway you can certainly do slime--you can just inacc all the dudes (the only thing in slime with any reasonable EV is azure jellies). You can do tomb if you know how to do tomb (if you don't you will probably die). Hellpan is where things can go badly.
---
You don't keep getting summoning decks in extended. You will get fewer deck gifts in general since there aren't as many items around (though some hellpan levels have a lot of weapons).
Trowel card was recently changed to only give you one of each portal type that it can give at most, instead of giving you infinite bazaars.
I would acquire staff (for rod) in your case, but this is because I like rods. Otherwise acquire wand and hope for hasting.
Just wanted to add, don't forget that the Helix card can cure bad mutations. It's not *too* reliable, but I usually end up with some ornate/legendary decks of wonder sitting around by endgame that I stack with Helix on the bottom. 2-3 Helixes will usually solve your problems. I recommend not using plain Helix at all.

had no wonders anymore at the end.
well did slime which was way easier then i expected (outside of catching some bad mutations most of which were avoidable by playing better). last time i fought the jellyking in the open since he stormed at me quite fast when i was still trying to clear the lvl. this time i fought him in the middle which together with lvl 3 demon aid was really easy.
took a quick tour into tomb but decided its not worth the risk after i pulled way too much in the first room. zot went fine mostly. till a stupid orb gave me teleportititis which soon threw me into the uncleared lung which resulted in a sticky situations and more mutations. managed to get tele out ,grab orb and fight my way up.some panlords on the way but nothing major.
so here it is, my 3rd win (and 3rd win in a month) : http://crawl.develz.org/morgues/0.11/BMPenner/morgue-BMPenner-20130105-231901.txt + Show Spoiler +2323115 BMPenner the Swordmaster (level 27, 221/221 HPs) Began as a Demonspawn Fighter on Jan 2, 2013. Is it just me, or does anyone else find it extremely satisfying to butcher and eat the corpse of a tough unique after you kill it?

not just you. the "yo you wanted to best me? now i eat your face brah!" feeling is quite cool ~

Making skeletons of those corpses is also fun. One of my favorite things to do is polymorph enemies so you get like "sigmund the yellow wasp" or similarly hilarious foes

I've decided to try my hand at extended with my old standby, the Minotaur Berserker. That said, I have no idea how to go about it. I've won twice with the combination, so I'm confident in my ability to 3-rune a game, but 15-rune's gonna be a lot tougher. So: How does the strategy differ? Important questions:
What order should I do branches in? I assume I should follow the 3-rune order up until Zot, but I'm not sure about after that. When should I switch from Trog to TSO? What should I spend all the extra xp on? What other relevant stuff do I need to know?
As for strategy on the specific extended areas, that would be appreciated too, but isn't fully necessary. I can get advice on that as I go. It's the strategic stuff I need to know from the start.
Thanks in advance

dont burn books you want switch gods when you dont want trog any more and can survive trog wrath and you want your new god learn spells (or just stick with trog if you dont want spells, this is fine if you have a haste wand and enough recharging)
|
Wow, thanks for the fast reply! Based on what I've read, I'm guessing I want TSO just before Pandemonium and Hell, and should use Crypt to get piety, so I don't need to switch to TSO until I'm ready to make that attempt. And I want to wait as long as possible before abandoning Trog, because his wrath is incredibly nasty.

Trog wrath is pretty rough, yeah, but once you're high enough leveled it's manageable. Switching to TSO then doing crypt is a great way to gain piety. Your main skill goal is to get Haste castable if you switch to TSO. You'll also want enough invocations to use TSO's powers.
|
also try not to be a ddbe with 0 maxmp and no spells, i hear that helps you survive a switch to tso
|

I think I had 2 maxmp that game.
I've also definitely ascended with this stat block:
Blazinghand the Invulnerable HP 151/285 (297) AC 52 Str 28 XL: 27 MP 4/4 EV 7 Int 12 (14) God: the Shining One [******] Gold 5353 SH 0 Dex 12 Spells: 0 memorised, 28 levels left

Is it even possible to get Haste castable in Plate armor with an Intellect in the single digits? Or do I need to solve one or both of those obstacles?
|
If you want to cast spells you probably want to raise int. With wizardry and ~15 int you get haste castable in plate at about 20 armour, 10 spellcasting, 14 charms.
(Or maybe this is the approximate number without wizardry, I forget. One of the two.)
|
So, Str until I'm confident I'll reach 27, then Int after that? Or pure Int from the start?
|

I'd almost always put all stat gain into Int-- it's basically the best stat. Wearing something lighter isn't so terrible if it comes down to it. That being said if your goal is GDA it's your call.
|
Haste is approximately 89742389 times more useful than GDA. FDA or plate is fine.

In an alarming fit of stupidity I threw away an immensely powerful character on Tomb:3. I had been stair dancing for about 20 minutes and got bored and tried to tornado.

Really wasn't expecting this character to win, it didn't start out particularly strong, except for the storm dragon armour on lvl 2 (!!!) of the dungeon. Couple of scary moments, but overall it was just a tab-fest from Lair. Everything felt way easier than usual for some reason, maybe I'm finally getting better at this game, after the ~500 games lost... Or maybe just dumb luck.
Anyway... YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS I've raged so much at this game....
