0.10 tournament official announcement. It starts on Feb 25, so in two weeks. I was just going to make the team name Team Liquid (or TL Crawl I guess, I put a poll above). We can have up to six players, so me and five others. You all just have to put the following line at the very top of your CAO rcfile once 0.10 is up officially:
# TEAMCAPTAIN crate
Note that even if you play on CDO you need to put this in your CAO rcfile (so make an account on CAO with the same name as your CDO account if you don't have one).
Make sure you tell me your name on the server so I can get everyone on the team in my rcfile.

ZaplinG (and anybody else), go here for the low-down on how to use the cool servers. All this tournament does is parse results from games played duing the tournament period and show a lot of cool stats on a nice webpage, as well as awarding points and declaring winners. It's quite fun to see your name on the boards and go for specific things. Points are awarded for wins, and playing badly doesn't penalize your team or anything so I encourage everyone to just go play for the heck of it.
Also I suspect crate will be responsible for a disproportionally large portion of TL's point score, but let's hope for some surprises!

So I downloaded Putty and configured everything to play online... unfortunately it is consol version My neckbeard isn't plentiful enough for this situation. Is there any way to switch things to tiles?

Thanks crate. Unfortunately, it lags for me when I play the webtiles Almost so much to make it unbearable. I guess I've just been spoiled by offline play

I would like to join too, I'm not really all that good (started quite recently) but I do have a couple wins under my belt. My CAO account is also Glenstorm.
I figure my strategy will be to wait until I win with something random, then cruise a DDHe for sweet, easy streak points (or horrible starvation).
I really like how the rules emphasize the quality of wins, rather than the quantity of games.

Also by the way Glenstorm if those 63 games online are actually your first 63 games that's actually a pretty impressive start! Even if they're not winning twice in 60 games is definitely quite respectable.

I'm on a three-streak right now (OgWr, MuSu (goddamn don't ever play MuSu it is so boring, I just wanted to win one mummy so I could never again play mummies) and OpAE) and have a DsIE running that should only die if I am a major idiot. The plus here is that I'm probably playing better than I ever have before. The downside is that this streak started about two weeks too early, haha.
My OpAE game was actually pretty interesting because I killed things almost entirely with magic but I never got a magic skill above level 15.3 the entire game, which just goes to show that you really don't need very much xp to win (I got a bunch of stealth levels to make ninja'ing the orb a bit easier, but in the end they didn't mean too much). I got the orb pretty easily, but got into some hairy situations trying to random-tele back out of Zot:5, since there was one ancient lich who thought it was still 0.9 and started summon spamming. Thankfully I didn't die but I ended up a glowing blob by the time I reached D:1 from having haste on for so much of the orbrun, which was mildly amusing.

You can't actually lose points by playing, so you can't hurt the team by joining!

You can score extra points by dieing to as many different uniques as possible!

Check out my awesome army. This is right before I entered last vault level
went lair (ezpz) -> snakes (got the rune) -> hive (ezpz) -> vaults -> (got the rune) -> blades (ezpz) -> swamps (lost almost my entire army due to confusion+them wandering into deep water and drowning... left there asap with only three guys left) -> rebuilt my army in dungeon -> crypts (nearly died two or three times... fucking ancient liches)

Bloodbath after slaying the vault gaurds...
Currently deciding what to do next. Thinking I might give swamps another go and just head for zot after that. I'm very strong right now... killed st. roka in like 3 hits, probably could have one shot him if i had positioned my followers. Running low on heal wound potions though. No way to heal myself after that.
weapon doesnt have a brand yet, but i've enchanted it to +8/+8. Have three sets of dragon armor, one for each magic type.

cleared the dungeon up to Zot, didnt venture into hell or pando... dont know what to expect and dont want to lose it all now. decided to just leave my four remaining followers (two warlords, two generals) behind and just beeline for the swamp rune.
success. I now have three runes! I feel unbeatable.

ELVES WAS A TERRIBLE MISTAKE. LOST EVERYTHING, NEARLY DIED. WHAT THE FUCK. first time since i've started that I havn't had at least a single follower. So many powerful elfs in 5.... I don't understand, I've cleared elf 5 before with weaker characters and no backup... this time though I got decimated. Only thing that saved me was a random teleport scroll and a wand of hasting to run away from an angel.
I have a small group left from the overflow in mines. Nowhere to train though... they are all too weak and will die to any monster I present them. Only places I can go are Tombs and Slimes... neither of which are very promising. Slimes will murder them, so I guess I'm going to try tombs t_T I don't want to take on Zot without followers ((

OK so, I managed to scum Vaults and Crypt enough to level up and equip three generals and a red sorc. Going to Zot now... wish me luck...

When i went into zot, only one of my orcs followed me in strike one. Also, I had my ice armor equipped and was immediately confronted with four dracos who blasted me with fire strike two. I chug a couple of emergency potions and am forced to randomly teleport to escape. I only teleport five tiles to the left and get blasted some more. strike three.

Just wanted to say I saw this thread about 2 months ago and just last week I got my first two wins. First one was a Spriggan Venom Mage of Vehumet and the second one was a Hill Orc Fighter of Okawaru... the latter got down to like 3 HP several times vs. ancient liches. I need to be more prepared (maybe the shining one would help?) and I just got lucky on that one. But, a win's a win.
So thanks for this thread, this game is awesome.

Rules are here. You enter the tournament simply by playing on .10 CAO or CDO servers between Feb 25th and March 12th. You earn points and banners through various milestones.

Lost another clearly winning DrWz last night to vault:8 stair dancing. Go up and down 5 times and take ~30 damage each round, the 6th time deals 80+. Right now I've got a scummy mummy wizard who's looking promising. I found an early amulet of faith and Nem altar -> run around sacrificing everything, weighted towards decks of wonder/experience cards. I've already drawn one big one. A ring of invisibility, a tele wand, blink, and the control teleport spell should keep me alive quite handily. I will only lose this char to bad play. The eventual plan is to switch to Sif and play dragon farmer.
J - the +7,+9 quick blade of Ahaoc {elec, rPois}
...why did I have to find this on a mummy haha. Actually Imight train short blades to 8 for the heck of it, always nice to have the melee option...

That's still an extremely good quickblade for a mummy. If you're not cheesing the game by having a two-thick wall of summons around you every single turn it might come in handy, and even on a mummy you can probably afford to get 8 skill in shortblades.
