I bought the first game, but strangely it was the first and only game up until now that I bought and didn't finish. I found the setting, all the dialogue and the little side stories very interesting, but somehow the gameplay was a real turn off for me.

I didn't like the confusing alchemy system and the combat system which gave you now clue as to what weapon and spell was useful in which situation (obviously silver sword for magic creatures etc. and the normal ones for humans and so forth, but when do you use the fast sword, an axe etc? All worked very well and I never noticed a difference in performance in between them... then again I only got around to that swamp area which name I forgot).

The way you "leveled up" somehow also really turned me off, even if it was a minor thing. I also hated the little side quests where you picked it up on the notice board and just had to kill a few monsters. I know stuff like this is a bonus that should be ignored if you don't like it, but somehow for me it lessened the quality of the game.

I also lacked an emotional connection to Gerald himself and his aims/goals. Therefor going further in the main quest mainly served my aim to complete the game, which didn't drive me nearly long enough (played the game maybe 5 hours)

But this game looks really promising so far. I might give it a shot.
