I freakin' loved Planetside. I have high hopes for Planetside 2.
The concept of the game is one of my favorites of all time. The execution of SOE however was always something to be desired. I hope they have a better engine this time around. (If Blizz made this game, it'd be an easy sell).

Ah......Planetside. The game I spent hours on reading and watching, yet I never played a single second of the game. I never want to pay monthly for a game, and I was too young back then as well if I wanted to do it on my own. Doubt I'll get this game either since I just hate paying monthly.....sad times. If only it was an out of box game.

if i were to buy out of the box games every time a good one came out/i finished one instead of playing a mmo.
id be paying a lot more money than 15$ a month.

I loved my old outfit, one day, out of the blue, we decided to make a Vanu outfit specializing in Max Crashes.
The Cereal Killas (and all of us were named for cereal brands) gained server-wide notoriety and a following within 2 hours. We successfully crashed over a dozen bases with 15-20 Max suits.
Ahhh.... those were the days.

One of the cool things about Planetside was you could play with your friends regardless of your different levels of progression. Hopefully that's still the case. It's probably my biggest gripe with getting into an MMO. I basically have to play alone, then make a new group of friends at max level, because keeping an existing group totally synced up all the way up in levels is almost impossible.

preorder was just released @ many sites.

bump, edited a lil
new trailer unfortunately to a eminem song but 100x less terrible than the original

All I can say is: FUCK YEAH MOTHERFUCKER THIS GAME IS GONNA BE THE SHIT!!! Even if Planetside 2 is half as good as Planetside 1 was it will be soooooo fucking good. Does anyone know what was the maxium number of players a world or whatever could support? I always got the feeling it was like 500 vs 500 mayhem in Planetside 1.

VS MAXes look amazing, which is good for me as I'm a VS MAX specialist in Planetside. I still come back for a month every once in a while, but I can't really bring myself to sub to an old game with no support+updates.

Super pumped for this! I missed the first year of PlanetSide 1 release... won't make that mistake again.

Noone of planetsides parts really screamed perfection or brilliant design but somehow when it all came together it didn't matter.
It might not deliver pitch perfect balance, hell it might not even be the best FPS there is but end of the day it delivered something very few games manage to do. It managed to lift you out from that idea of playing a game and let you experience massive full scale war.
The best part of planetside is listening to other people talking about it. It sounds ridiculous but everyone has their own "war" stories about this game.
Wether it was stealthing through a base scouting for my outfit or trying to fly my trusty transport ship as close to the frontline as i would dare, it really made you forget you were playing a game.
Best memory for me is probably when me and my outfit flew a transport ship around an enemy base that was a reall pain in the ass and moved in from a side wich had nearly no enemies (most of them were on the other side firing away at most of the army). Once we got inside we killed so many enemies it was crazy, and constantly that fear knowing that if you died, sure you would respawn, but you wouldn't be inside the base fighting for your life with your outfit members any time soon.
Eventually we got close to the control thingy we had to cap but the enemy just kept swarming us so we could hardly get to the thing. But with so many enemies rushing us they left their walls wide open and the rest of my faction rushed into the base.
I hope they pretty much keep the game intact and mostly give it a graphics update. Ill fork over some money for that planetside experience anyday.

Lets get this thread changed to Planetside 2

Game looks quite cool! We are so spoiled for new games lately! :D

Awesome, I can't wait. My favorite PS kill of all time has to be the time when my TR drop-pod landed on an opposing magrider. It got pinned underneath, couldn't escape, and every couple seconds took collision damage. Was trapped in the pod for about 30 seconds but I crushed the magrider to death and safely exited next to the burnt out hulk of the tank.
I haven't heard of anyone drop-podding on another player or vehical before or since. It was epic.
