I played Planetside 1 for three years. Up until the release of BFRs, it was an awesome game. The game supported a variety of different play styles, some which were much slower if you wanted to enjoy, some which were fast paced. For example, there were some days where I just flew a galaxy (12 person dropship) back and forth between our nearest base and the front lines, just parachuting wave after wave of people on top of it while avoiding flak fire. Other days, I would go drain a base (a long process which turns it neutral) to open up a front on a new continent. This promoted small squad gameplay as usually a small group of people would come to stop you.
Perhaps the most boring but necessary action was to lockdown caverns which gave your faction access to very strong modules. Module running was fun, the problem was that no one was ever in the caverns.
I would say about 20% of my overall time was spent doing inactive things such as cavern locking, but the rest of the time I was able to do a good split. The problem with BFRs (which are basically gundams or mecha) was that it ruined the necessity of squad play in vehicular battles significantly as BFRs were solo pilot vehicles that beat everything. They had targeted points which made them fun to take down, but also were incredibly hard to take down.
One of the biggest problems of Planetside 1 was getting into combat quickly upon entering game. The "Global DropPod" system had a 5 minute cooldown, otherwise you could drive out to the battlefield or click "instant action" which wasn't always that effect. It seems they intend to improve the "instant action" button which would be nice to see.
I am very very excited for Planetside 2, especially if it's a F2P model, not that I mind the subscription model all that much. I have not been impressed by a MMO-FPS since Planetside 1.

You're lucky. I had so much fun in PlanetSide that new FPSs just aren't enjoyable, PS literally ruined them for me.

So, this game being released earlier than next fall? I hope?

One or two Galaxy dropships really acctually could change a stalemate into a steamroll.
And I agree with this:

Planetside in its prime was the most fun I have ever had playing a game in my life. I really hope Planetside 2 become hugely popular like the original somehow failed to do

If this ends up being a disappointment compared to the first PS I'll probably cry, I still miss that game.
|
So there no timeline on this games' release?
|
Loved the first one can't wait for this one and that its F2P is baller ;D
