Also the most noticeable unlock is the flash grenade (did not exist in vanilla but in special forces) - the new SF unlock came with the flash grenade so you could use it in regular BF2. Otherwise all other unlocks are more or less the same guns just with slightly different stats (most SF unlocks are better than the vanilla unlocks though). Though yeah I definitely hated how SF was a separate game basically. SF is dead right now even though I find it fun. One major annoyance is definitely that you had to restart BF2 to play SF (you could launch SF directly but if you wanted to play one or the other while it was launched, you had to restart). Also servers couldn't host both SF and vanilla (you can't have a server rotate between SF maps and vanilla maps).

I'm so bummed that DICE never re-used any of the cool shit they introduced in SF (grappling hooks, ziplines, etc). maybe they will do a SF expansion deal for BF3 lol.

Agreed, they should do SF for BF3 + they should make it somewhat integrated into BF3 (so a server could host both SF and Vanilla BF if they wanted to). I can see some people disliking zip lines and grappling hooks which is why they could limit it to BF3 SF maps (and if they become popular, maybe as an unlock for regular BF?). Another thing I liked about BF2 SF was the RPG-7: It lacked the ability to guide the missile but the projectile moved twice as fast, it reloaded twice as fast, and I think it actually had a bigger explosion radius than the normal/regular anti-tank weapons. To be fair that would be kind of overpowered against tanks and any ground vehicle in general but against helicopters or even jets that could be a fun thing to use.

Hope it can beat MW3 I think it has already beaten out MW3 even before release, the CoD guys out there already can see that the game is only slightly different than the last, rightly so though since a new version comes out every single year. BF3 is a MASSIVE update compared to Bad Company 2 and a world better than BF2. I just got BF2 after having Bad Company 2 for a while now and playing BF2 is like heaven the game is so damn fun and well done, it looks like there combining all the best of FPS games to make BF3. The only thing I have seen complained about en mass so far is the whole Origin thing, which makes sense in one way but not in another to me. I personally could have bought BF2 on Steam two days ago but chose Origin because I had bought Bad Company on Origin and I like one thing about it over Steam: you don't have to have it open to get into the game. I love not having to have more backup shit on than I need and having Steam during games is kinda dumb for some people (like me, I don't use the friends/community features in game).

Fast-paced gunplay and TDM was never what made the older BFs great, CoD has been refining that type of gameplay for years and will always do it much better

Nothing to add. Everyone who saw Gameplay footage (i did @gamescom in germany) is convinced that BF3 is infinite times better than MW3. There is no way MW3 will be close to game quality as bf3 does.
