He will drop slightly ($20-$30) initially, then go up by another $40-$50 minimum the following year.

He is gaining steam as 1-3 of in random eternal format decks. And he is a good fit in almost ALL EDH/Cube lists.

And an out of print card that sees lots of play will eventually go up in price. The issue becomes--how much higher in price will he be during Shadows over Innistrad?

Currently 70-90, if it spikes to 100-150 during shadows, then drop to 90-100 once it rotates out--will it really be "that" much chearper?

I know people keep saying this, but I have only encountered one deck that was playing him and he wasn't very good in it. I really am skeptical of the "Jace will be legacy playable (in a meaningful way)" train.

Can't speak for modern, though.

I got the same feeling, might be good for modern but I can't see him having a lot of action in Legacy.

Yeah I honestly think his price will collapse. He won't be junk, but he will be a lot cheaper ($20, $30 maybe?). His price is inflated right now because every fucking deck in standard wants him since the manabase is so good due to the fetchlands and the battlelands.

Expect his price to go down, I would say.

The issue with Jace is that madness as a mechanic is coming in Innistrad. If Madness is good, Jace will spike up even more than it is now since there will be even less Origins packs being cracked than now.

Jace on TCGplayer right now is $88 for its median price (braking $100 at the high end)

There's a good chance Jace will spike even harder once Innistrad comes out, most likely spiking to $150~

Even if it lost half its value, which I don't think it will, it would still only drop to the $75~ range.

For reference, Jace, the Mind Sculptor is only used in 3 decks in Legacy. Miracles, BUG, and Esper Stoneblade. Two of those decks only run 1-2 Jace. Miracles runs 2-3 Jace. The Mind Sculptor is currently in the $80-$90 range.

If Vryn's Prodigy is used as much Mind Sculptor (1-3 of in 2-3 decks) then I do not see why he would not at least be in the same cost range, more if he becomes playable in Modern.

Well his availability will be much higher in the short term. Mind Sculptor is expensive in part because it's older, which hurts its availability.

Vryn's Prodigy will probably drop in the short term after it rotates, then slowly rise back up. That's kind of the pattern for all eternal-playables. It'll drop quickly at first due to people getting rid of them with imminent rotation. Without a reprint the availability of a card always goes down though, so as long as there's meaningful demand for the card, it's value will rise back up.

Do you think it will rise back to $90 tho? It doesn't scream $90 card to me because it isn't that good in modern.

Probably not, but with the way Modern is right now, it's hard to predict the texture of the Modern format a year from now.

Jace doesn't have a home in Modern not because he's intrinsically not powerful enough, but because the kind of deck that would be a good home for Jace hasn't been good in Modern for quite some time.

I'm talking when he rotates out of standard. It's too early to call SoI, but blue madness decks would need to be pretty powerful to maintain the current proportion of decks in the meta game that want jaces. I would be skeptical about any increase, and I think he'll drop a bit after SoI, and a lot when he rotates out of standard.

Man, 9 rounds, even officially starting the event at 9AM is one hell of a long day. My team ended up dropping near the end but I think it's still going 11 hours later. Then tonight is daylight savings time where we lose an hour of sleep, and the teams who did well today have to be back tomorrow morning. Honestly I'm a bit glad we didn't dominate today.

Building three decks out of a deck pool of 12 packs is also pretty awkward. Essentially, my teammates built two solid decks and then I built a deck with the leftovers. The highlight of the event for me was getting to surge Crush of Tentacles over and over again :p

Following up crush of tentacles with a bunch of bounce spells is pretty brutal.

Holy shit I want 4. This PW does exactly everything that I'd want a PW to do and I want to be playing a deck with this card in it.

That said, on an objective power level, she's very good. She defends herself by flipping after making a token, then has the ability to bolt something and flip back. That said, she's not spectacular on an empty board since she can only make a token every other turn and that requires her to tick down (to bolt to flip back over), and the rest of her stuff only pumps creatures that you have out. If you're playing any creatures, though, her front side pump effect is amazing for curving out into big 5 drops (if you somehow have a 4 color deck, this into Ojutai seems unbeatable). Her reverse side PLUSES on a mini-overrun which breaks board stalls nicely.

She's going to see a ton of standard play and maybe some modern play in some kind of Jund midrange/aggro deck.

She's still very awkward because if you want to play her on 4 then haste a creature on 5, you have to uptick for no value on 4.

Still seriously powerful of course, but tuned towards overrun and mass creatures rather than for breaking big creatures by adding haste. I'm loving the more meaningful choices and the tension between which side is showing compared to the garruk flipwalker though.

Well you only tick up for no value if you have no creatures in play. Otherwise it's good but the haste doesn't matter.
