Looks like I'm participating in the GP next month in DC along with two friends (three player team sealed). I have not been to a GP before so I'm hoping it is a good experience.

I doubt that even Twin or Bloom would have been able to stop the Eldrazi onslaught. Thought-Knot Seer seems great in those match-ups (and most match-ups tbh), and Cavern of Souls makes the deck resilient to counterspells.

Eye of Ugin's really just a stupid card. That was true even before BFZ, it's just really only one deck made good on it, and that deck didn't get to double-dip.

Replace "colorless Eldrazi" with any classically relevant creature type, it would have been clearly absurd years ago, it was just made "fair" on the assumption that WotC wouldn't print colorless Eldrazi that cost less than 7 mana.

Conveniently, WotC forgot about the card designing this block, and lo and behold, even mediocre creatures that aren't good enough for Standard become very good when you can cast them for free.

Yup.
Had this exact discussion with my playgroup today as we watched. It wasn't an issue with the original zendikar block for precisely that reason---'midrange' eldrazi simply didn't exist.

Well, they did. Stuff like Kozilek's Predator and Nest Invader were even decently costed for their stats. It's just that they're colored, and Eye of Ugin specifies *colorless* Eldrazi precisely to not interact with these cards.

If WotC wanted to push Eldrazi like this, they really just needed to make the super-pushed ones actually colored and not make all of them colorless/Devoid. There's a precedent for colored Eldrazi anyway, so it's not like they all HAVE to be Devoid.

Yes technically, but I highly doubt if those cards were devoid they would be seeing play the way Skyspawner and vile aggregate are. Point being like stated earlier, all of the 'real' eldrazi back in the day were high costed, and now you've got 'real' ones of all mana costs (mimic, thought-knot) and you've got low costed eldrazi that are actually like real non vanilla creatures rather than 3-4 that are just drone creators only.

Last night, Relic of Progenitus spiked to $10 on tcg. Chalice of the Void spiked to $60. This was only off the back of the day 2 performances since the top 8 wasn't even decided yet.

Relic of Progenitus spiked to $10? I remember that I bought one one month or so ago for $2

Eternal Masters Announced

Here's to hoping for some much needed reprints. Shame they aren't getting away with the Reserve List yet but this might be a step closer.

I wonder hows the print run. MMA was madness when it came out, cost around 50usd for a draft then. Hopefully this will not happen again

I hope there will be a GP in Utrecht again when Eternal Masters releases. The MMA GP was one of the most fun events I ever played.

I was also hoping that they would abolish the reserve list with the announcment of EMA

I don't think they will ever abolish the reserve list, I certainly hope they don't. First of all, I don't want my set of nice unlimited Volcanics to lose their value. I also think that a large part of why cards have value, is that people are confident wizards won't go around reprinting their 100 dollar rare as an uncommon to grab some quick cash. Abolishing the reserve list would be a good move to destroy a lot of that confidence.

Wizards already does a good job of protecting the value of even with non-reserve list cards though, including ones that have reprints. This is why Tarmogoyf is in MM sets at mythic.

I don't think a limited print run like an MM set would just suddenly crash the value of ABU duals, and I don't think abolishing the reserve list and WotC doing so would destroy peoples' confidence. Lots of people who even own significant numbers of reserve list cards have expressed the opinion that the reserve list should go. In the case of Tarmogoyf, the increase in availability was largely offset by the increased demand for them due to newer printings (not just of Goyf but also of other reprinted staples like Bob or Remand) making Modern a more accessible format as a whole--and there's still a significant price gap between MM Goyfs and FS Goyfs.

You'd probably see a similar effect in Legacy if duals got a limited print run reprint and the value of ABU duals probably would not be hugely affected. There are tons of people who would have an interest in getting into Legacy (especially with the current dissatisfaction with Modern between the bans and the stale post-Twin metagame that the Pro Tour unveiled) if staples like the duals were made more accessible. I really don't think a limited print run reprint would affect ABU dual values significantly, as that untapped demand would largely continue to prop up the value of original printings.

I've seen people complaining that WotC printing FoW at Mythic in EMA is a cash grab (and even some ridiculous enough to say that it should be printed at it's original rarity--uncommon), but it's honestly more likely that this is actually the reason why EMA FoW is going to be Mythic--because printing it at a lower rarity would significantly hurt the value of the original printing (ESPECIALLY if it was at Uncommon) and would piss off people who own FoWs already. Printing Wasteland at rare is already pretty ambitious, but I'd guess that since Wastelands are significantly less valuable than FoWs already, WotC is less concerned about the negative impact there.

They can keep the RL list. Perhaps they should just ban all RL cards in Legacy and print Legendary duals. Ya ya spirit and all that jazz, but as far as I am concerned, the RL can go to hell. I want to play Legacy. By making the format more accessible I get to play more. If you want "value" perhaps you should take up the Nasdaq or if you're more risk-averse lower yield portfolio's with more long-term confidence.

I own Miracles and I would ecstatic to lose 90% of the value of my dual lands if it meant I could reasonably be able to play Legacy locally every week. Of course, WoTC sucks with reprints in the first place and is in bed with the secondary market, so the likelihood of that ever happening is near zero.
Thank you bureaucrats for all your hard work, your commitment to public service and public good is essential to the lives of so many. Also, for Pete's sake can we please get some gun control already, no need for hand guns and assault rifles for the public
