That is why keeping track of the items is such a crucial skill - if you know you have the bigger stack then you know you should not lose an LG duel. Conversely if the opponent has control, you should not try to LG him, you should instead opt for a more elusive game perhaps with the railgun.
Well I meant aiming wise. I can hit really high accuracies vs rockets with a LG, but I drop to below 30% when I'm trying to fight another guy with a LG.

Sounds like you tense up under fire
If you dont have stack advantage you really shouldn't lg vs lg imo. When you have stack advantage no need to fear.

I'm +10 years Quake experienced player, I don't play SC or SC2 at all, but I visit this site so.. few hints regarding LG vs LG and overall the LG-beam visuals. You have to find best solution for yourself, basing on those settings and your own preferences:
-try different cg_lightningstyle (1/2/3/4/5) -try with draw weapon on or off, which also affects the LG beam with certain lightningstyles (cg_drawgun 0/1/2) -try different gun positions (cg_gunx /y /z with values from -10 to 10) -try lowering your sensitivity for just that weapon -try lowering your fov for just that weapon -try different crosshair for just that weapon (imo cg_drawCrosshair 13 works great) -try different crosshaircolor, yellow is best for most of players (cg_crosshairColor 5)
Overall, from my cfg it looks like this: bind MOUSE2 "weapon 6;sensitivity 1.7;cg_fov 90;cg_drawCrosshair 13;cg_crosshairSize 46;cg_drawGun 0;cg_gunZ -10;cg_gunY -5;cg_gunX 10;seta cg_trueLightning 1"
Don't look at the cg_gun x / y / z since I'm using cg_drawGun 0, it's there only for messing things when I try to use cg_drawGun 2. I use wide beam, since it's kinda transparent, you focus on model, not on the players/opponents beam (cg_lightningstyle 5 with cg_drawgun 0)

I guess I can try widebeam, I've already done pretty much everything else above (minus the fov thing, I just leave it at 90 because anything below/above is intolerable.) And I just use draw weapon off because thats what I've used in any game that lets me shut it off. And tbh I don't really duel too often anymore because the latest patch is really dumb, and I don't play the game hardcore enough to warrant paying, CA is fun enough.
I've been trying it for a reallly long time, just can't get it. I can increase my speed but it's nowhere near the pros. Can't do bridge to rail, can't jump the QL 3rd training (right most on the 2gd vid) easily
I'm playing q3 on LAN btw since I get >0.1 ms delay on QL[/QUOTE]
muscle memory its not built for quake yet, but it won't take you much longer practice strafe jumping in the middle area(jump pad area) on this map it's where most people learned how to do it in q3 you can practice regular strafe jumps and circle jumps, so its the perfect spot
once you get good there, start working on bridge to rail once you have that down, celebrate, cause youll never forget how to do it, it's just like riding a bike.
yeah, q3 will take you a little bit longer to learn than ql jumping, but that practice will just make you a better mover in quakelive. don't worry if it takes you a while to do it, just keep practice on t4/vertical vengeance

Thanks for the advice.
Btw I can't find videos with commentary. Doesn't need to be ones like IEM Classics either. I'm talking about something like any IEM one with the 2 guys talking. I need them because I'm a noob and 1 of them really gives a lot of insight
Strenx is starting to stream more and break down duel for people. You can add me on QL , and I can try to help you with basics. Also, if any of you are interested there is a NA/EU (if you want to play with crappy ping) beginners cup this weekend.

We have not forgotten Quakelive here at The GD Studio, so this Thursday starting at 19:00 CET we present you a short warm-up cup for DHW '12 featuring four of the top contenders. They will be battling it out for $500 (winner takes all) and a strain of 2GD's hair.
At the end of the cup, we will also perform the DreamHack Winter 2012 Quakelive group draw.
Your casting team for the evening will be James "2GD" Harding and Pelle "fazz" Soderman.
Hi there people just started up quake live again, lost my config and spent the last 2 days re-writing (having a nightmare with blotchy picmip textures).
I've been mucking about in CA here and there for a few years now I'm looking to get into Duel (followed by TDM)
I've brought pro so can create games and invite F2P players!
Please add me to the EU player list: Heafmo
And I'm low level too! All we need to do guys is get playing together more often, the rest will fall into place! let's GO!
for those who want some more duels, http://faceit.com/home is hosting daily tournament starting from low leagues on with caps, so even low ranked players like me can enjoy it. read more on http://www.esreality.com/post/2343249/quake-live-daily-cups/ page works quite nicely, liked it today played my first tour for months, (me total newb)
