its far more alive than many of you would think, its just there is less LAN events now, iem and eswc dropping QL recently, but i guess its for the same reason why there isnt chess analysis on cartoon network... | ||

I think I've seen/done just about every shot/play possible on some of the more popular maps like dm6 and ztn. | ||

but in western europe i guess its pretty much dead, there are no more big 1v1 tournaments (DH, IEM). it seems they are trying to bring back tdm though (dh features a tour as did quakecon). ESL and some other organizations try to bring back 1v1 leagues. i think a problem with competive 1v1 fps is, that there are too many. there are still a lot of people playing only cpma or some vanilla or else or even warsaw etc. and the top 10-12 players in qlive are almost unrbeatable (in tournaments). the last name, that showed up was strenx. | ||

However.. organizations like CSN (Cyber Sports Network) in NA and Jeesports in EU are still holding weekly cups for Duel, Clan Arena and other gametypes. As far as being a true eSport game.. Quake is #1. Even ahead of StarCraft.. yes. Does this mean it gets the same recognition and support.. no. The makers of Quake.. banked on their experience and popularity of the past in marketing their new game (QuakeLive).. and this did not work. Had they put just a little effort into really marketing their game as an eSports title for the future and had put money into supporting it in tournaments and such.. I think it would have lasted longer. Quake will never die.. it will come back as it does every time they release a new version of it. I really encourage those that like FPS games and love the idea of true competition.. to check it out. Granted.. the learning curve in Quake is even greater then that of StarCraft and right now it does not have the popularity and 'shallow/shameless' social marketing that other games do.. but it's still very much a viable eSport title. my 3 cents.. CSN is running playQUAKELIVE.. as part of our playGAMES series. These will be 4 single elim Duel brackets worth points and some cash. The top 8 players after the first 4 events, based on participation/result points will be invited to the FINALS. check it out at http://www.cyber-sports.net | ||

Quake doesn't exactly have a linear improvement model like Starcraft. Quake Live is already an improved version of Quake 3. I don't really see how Id can improve on the game except if they release and cycle new maps non stop every few months. | ||
