Well, it's that time of year. E3 is upon us, and so is a plethora of hype for games that haven't come out yet.
The idea of this thread is to pluck really awesome articles and videos from the overgrown tree of E3 internet reporting and to post them in this thread. Instead of having one million different threads about each new game announced at E3, let's consolidate a bunch of it here! I'll update the OP when you post cool content.

That Nintendo announced the 3DS was not a surprise -- that they had a couple-dozen of these things to try out, that was. We elbowed our way to the front of the line to try one out, and the effect is actually not bad. It's not great, but the 3.5-inch screen on top certainly gives a firm illusion of depth without resorting to glasses -- or eye crossing. The feel is definitely reminiscent of those 3D cereal box prints, and as soon as you turn the device from left to right to try to look around anything the effect is immediately lost. You need to stare at the screen for a moment for your eyes to adjust and then not move around too much. If you do you'll need to adjust again. But, stay reasonably still and it's a compelling effect.
The new analog slider on the left feels a lot like the PSP's analog nub, but larger and without the texture. It's a bit easier on the fingers, and comfortable. Overall the device feels just like a current DS or DSi, though we couldn't get a good feel for the weight thanks to a bulky tether attached on one end to the device, and on the other end to the row of ladies who were surely told to not let the gadgets out of their hands or face certain doom. The only thing we could do here is rotate along a still frame -- Pikmin in a field, for example -- and play with the 3D slider. It is a pretty convincing effect, but it's hard to tell at this point if it's at all compelling -- it wasn't anything more than novelty in this demo, and we still don't know how it stands up to fast-moving footage. Actual games were promised to us for the show floor, so we'll hit that up later today. We snagged a few pics before getting elbowed out of the way, so check 'em out!
E3 always overwhelms me. There is just too much stuff going on. It's like the elections all over again :p
Maybe this will help, because Kotaku and the rest of the sites tend to write 2-3 articles about the same story and it becomes impossible to know everything that goes on.
I <3 E3 thou and it has always been a personal dream of mine to attend one... Someday... Someday. Valve better f*king deliver this time.
They won't announce anything for D3, if they announce something it'll be for modern warfare. Maybe valve finally gives episode 3 of HL2, but I doubt it
I would just like to say that I support the idea behind this thread "the overgrown tree of E3 internet reporting" is a pretty good metaphor I always feel overwhelmed. Consider this motivation to follow through OP
Yeah I wouldn't expect any new announcements from ol' Blizz until their revelation (most likely) of the new MMO in October. They announce a new game every year at Blizzcon and since Cataclysm won't even be out, D3 is already announced and the SC expansions were revealed already, the new MMO is logically the only choice.

both actually. i know the guy who used to do CS made another game similar to CS (kinda like Diablo --> torchlight) but there have been rumors to a CS sequel, i'll try and find where i read it
anyway i'll be all over this E3 again and i'll post articles and shit as I see fit.

This. I'll probably run the first two again if the info is good, lmao... good as in it won't be on the 3ds and it doesn't have a billion dsi exclusive features, because this and gen 5 pokemon are the only two ds games I'm planning on buying lol.

I'M SO FUCKING EXCITEDDDDDDDDDDDD [/QUOTE]
Is it gooseman? He left after Valve paid money to own CS. Now gooseman is currently in Korea working on another CS, but has a more Korean made FPS feel to it.
I wonder what the unrevealed features of the 3ds will be... pre-ds reveal, nintendo talked about the dual screens, but hid the core feature of the touch screen
this time, they've mentioned the 3d display (without glasses), but what's the core feature?
As for Valve, I was told they'd had a Portal 2 announcement planned, then they'd cancelled it and said they'd announce something else, and then they cancelled their press event altogether?

I'm sorry but as a former competitive counterstrike player theres no way that they're making a counterstrike 2
for one, counterstrike was never made by valve, it was a mod off of the HL engine, CS Source ended up being the mod off of the HL2 engine, and condition zero was a big fucking joke. There have been no developments for the game lately other than promod, which is also a fan made deal. Portal 2? sure maybe, HL2 Episode 3? ok fine. Counterstrike 2? I promise...no
Shogun 2: Total War (PC) <----holy f**k, my wet dreams finally come true. I hope they left most things as they were --> videos when a ninja kills a daimyo or a mediator.
The world could really use a manly FPS in a time like this. SIck of all these "HEY GOOD JOB! YOU GOT A KILL, HERE'S A NEW WEAPON AND DON'T FORGET TO CALL IN THE HELICOPTER TO HELP YOU OUT!"

As long as Valve's still around there will always be a legitimately good FPS
Additionally, the year's biggest surprise announcement, DEUS EX®: HUMAN REVOLUTION™, the long-awaited next installment, will be showcased for attendees anxious to get a first look at the newly imagined Cyber Renaissance world that will revolutionize the gaming experience — just as the original DEUS EX did a decade ago.
If the gameplay is even nearly as epic as the trailer I'm sold, hopefully title of the year in 2011. Lets hope we get to see some gameplay at E3.
i had no idea there were a lot of counter-strike 2 rumors, THATD BE SICK
it sucks so much that fear 3 is being made. fear 2 was so bad they should of just killed the franchise right there and then FEAR 1 wouldnt be so embarrassed, but now they get some shitty developer to make an even worse sequel. goddamnit
crysis 2 looks pretty cool. I love the way they've redesigned the aliens to be more humanoid. all of crytek's games have always been awesome until the monsters appear and then the game gets a lot worse (crygens in far cry, aliens in crysis (although the aliens were a lot better than the crygens, they still weren't very fun)). and im loling hard at how they're trying to advertise the consolized controls as a new feature LOL.
In crysis 1 there was an amount of physical mechanics needed (somewhat similar to SC i guess lol) where you need to be quick in switching between suit powers to say run really fast and jump up a cliff and then back to armor so you dont take damage. Now they've basically made all the modes that go together like that as just 1 mode so you dont need any of the required mechanics to do it. I guess it's debatable as to whether or not it hurts the game (I personally loved that part of it), but it's basically like blizzard heavily advertising MBS and auto-mining as the only new features for SC2 lol
i remember last year at the sony conference, one of their announcements got leaked, and their guy was like "i know you guys know about that thing, but have you heard about THIS?????" and it was like their big thing and everyone was like OMGWTFBBQ
Hmm... where is Bioware and SWTOR? All over their website they are talking about new information that is going to be released at E3. They are also currently in 1st place ahead of SC2 for most anticipated game.
Dunno why they aren't on any of these lists. Weird.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution looks like they just decided to glue Blade Runner, Shadowrun, and Robocop together.
And I mean, I loves me some Blade Runner and I loves me some Shadowrun, and I even have a soft spot for Robocop ("I'll buy that for a dollar!") but man, it's like they didn't even try to hide the fact that they were just ripping them off.
Oh hey, there's the main character. He's like Decker, if Decker was a street samurai with cybernetic limb replacement. And he's been hired by the errr, Terell Corporation to figure out what's going on over at Aztechnology, because the streets of Detroit are in chaos, and OCP is about to roll out the ED-209 to deal with the riots. Or something.

i think you got that wrong lol. the PSPGO got totally leaked like 2 weeks before and then they just had to suck it up and go "yep here it is"
last year I think the biggest surprise was MGS rising coming to 360 (and microsoft tried to make it sound like it was a 360 exclusive too so lots of people got confused lol)

There will be news of SWTOR at E3. On Friday, there was a 1 hour show on Spike TV/G4 channel dedicated to E3 with trailers and behind the scenes. One of them was SWTOR, which showed a short teaser for an upcoming trailer that will be fully shown at E3 and possibly some gameplay footage.
Yeah, it's amazing how so many trailers and news got "leaked" before E3, but I'm sure there will be some crazy news during the week. I think it would have been more anticipating if most of the news and trailers didn't get leaked so hard.
In other news, it is confirmed that FF13 Versus will be shown at E3, and surprise surprise, it was leaked... by GameSpot.com themselves lol.

so dont get down yet ^_^
i think you got that wrong lol. the PSPGO got totally leaked like 2 weeks before and then they just had to suck it up and go "yep here it is"
last year I think the biggest surprise was MGS rising coming to 360 (and microsoft tried to make it sound like it was a 360 exclusive too so lots of people got confused lol)
yeh that got leaked but I think it was their 3D periph MOVE or like Halo: Reach or something that they kept a total fucking secret

Dunno why they aren't on any of these lists. Weird.

god i'm sick of all this motion control shit. I just want to sit on my couch with a controller and play. The Wii is alright but i don't want that to become the norm.
I'm going to be disappointed if you can't cut down walls and shit with that. It'll be like Red Faction where SUPER WEAPON DESTROYS ANYTHING except this artificial boundary we don't want you to cross.
Ahahah CliffyB's shirt is amazing. Now where's his gf. D:
That crowd's reaction to that was so lame haha. Like we just gave you 300 dollars ( basically ) and most of those people like barely clapped? wtf lol ...
Basically, the "hardcore" audience aren't very interested in Kinect, and the "casual" audience already has a Wii, and aren't into gaming enough to switch to a new system just like that. I really don't think it will do that spectacularly.
On June 15 2010 04:34 anch wrote: wipe out as in fun softwares. not outsell in system hardware targeted towards casuals and families.
Except Nintendo is great at making software, much more than they are at hardware.
Did that Forza thing really look fun to anyone? OMG I get to kneel down to look at the tires! The driving experience would be way better with a controller or wheel.
ah this motion controller fad is so funny. it's not going to affect real games at all. like yea the Wii sold a shitload of systems but the majority of people who buy Wiis will just buy the system and only ever play wii sports when they 1st get it and never buy any games for it again. I'm pretty sure the sells figures on games for the wii are ridiculously low (at least for bigger budget games on the wii compared to games of similar budget on 360/ps3).
I never have high expectations for microsoft conferences because i just sorta hate their whole vision of gaming. I own a 360 and a few games on it (because until 2008 the PS3 sucked) but i stopped paying for xbox live in 2007. sounds like they didnt really have anything great at all this year, just more halo and gears of war.... wooo....
I think sony just makes a whole lot more good games than microsoft (although that's probably got a lot to due with personal taste). cant wait for their conference tomorrow :D
On June 15 2010 04:34 anch wrote: wipe out as in fun softwares. not outsell in system hardware targeted towards casuals and families.
There was no 'fun softwares' that the Wii owners don't already have. Their 'killer' app was an on rails star wars game. The only games that sell anything on the Wii are (generally excellent) Nintendo games. Microsoft ain't got shit, even if the device works as well as the show wants you to believe. Even their standard line up was weak, Gears Halo and Fable, what a surprise.
it's funny, on the Wii you can make any piece of crap and it will sell decently well, but whenever someone tries to put a lot of money into making a quality AAA title on the Wii and they aren't nintendo, it usually sells horribly (such as dead space extraction and no more heroes).

That phenomenon might be due to the ease of piracy on the Wii as opposed to the Xbox 360 or the PS3.
Homefront looks pretty freaking sick. It's a really good idea too; SK, NK, Japan and South Eastern Asian countries joining into one federation and taking over a portion of the United States (like San Francisco). Can't wait to see more of it :D

PS3 yes, hard to hack.. But I have way more burned xbox games than wii games. And actually, all my good Wii games are purchased. GH3, mario galaxy 1+2, smash brothers brawl... and that's about it for good games on the Wii

Kinect does, but the Xbox doesn't
its too late. no one's going to buy an xbox for this. the wii had a fitness market initiative from the beginning, xbox is hopping on the train WAY too late.
hardware is too expensive. $300 xbox plus ~$100 Kinect (im guessing) is way more than a Wii+wii fit
plus mom's know that the wii is for them, they would never think to buy an xbox
It looks like it is actually 150$. I think this is way to much for it to sell well, they will have to come up with some really good bundle to attract casual gamers.

Haha A write up from somone who was at Ground Zero. It sounds like it was the prelude to revalations so make sure to read it for all your moral needs.
This is where it gets difficult to explain. You see, we stood like this, as we had stood outside, for even longer than we had outside, and without anything happening except an occasional faun backflip or a slight change in the music (imagine a theme song to climbing that big tree in Avatar stomping on a human face, forever). There was nowhere for us to sit, and I learned later that there was nowhere for the sitters in the “audience” to stand. Nicholas had asked earlier: “Are we being waterboarded?” In a way, Nicholas: waterboarded by Enya.

I think the Dead Space guys have got horror games wrong. For an action game, sure, but in good horror games, you don't just throw waves of scary monsters at someone because they become numb to it. It plays more like a dark Serious Sam than a serious horror game like SS2 or Eternal Darkness.
I feel because it's made by DICE, it will be 1000000x more balanced than Modern Warfare 2. And in that huge trailer of the BETA maps, there was a large open vehicle map shown. So I feel that there will be that Bad Company 2 large map feel too. I just can't wait.
I just love that. People complained to DICE that BC2 was too slow paced, and they make it just a tidbit faster and now it's a MW2 copy...lol

I'm also kind of glad they're just saying "THIS IS IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN" instead of making shit up like ISLAMOTERRORSTAN in MW2.
I personally would love to see a fast paced, vehicle involved spin on the Call of Duty franchise that has the balance and MP ingenuity that DICE has to offer. I'm not saying this is a MW2 copy, it clearly isn't by looks of that second BETA map that's all wide open and vehicle heavy. But I wouldn't mind to see how DICE balances a more fast pace shooter than Battlefield.

dude it's not made by DICE lol. it's made by EALA. they just said "we will be consulting with DICE" or something along those lines, which pretty much means they just want to try to get DICE's name on it somehow so people get more excited about it.

it most likely will be a source engine game since they wont want to unveil something like source engine 2 or a brand new engine without showing it on half-life 1st. hopefully it will be counter-strike 2, but it might be something with duke nukem, no? wasnt there a thread about it that had a link to some teaser image of duke's face on a valve webpage?

not ep3, I mean Half Life 3. i read that too x.x
what most likely happened was that they decided to redo ep 3 from the start on a new engine, and probably make it half-life 3. the time frame doesnt work for a ep 3 on source engine (way too long) and it doesnt work for a brand new engine (not long enough). I dont think any half-life game will be there

Yea, basically the graphics of every single game for the last 3 years are mostly limited to the 360 and ps3's capabilities. Looks like this year is no different, pretty much the game graphics styles I've seen for years now. WTB pc titles!
I think its hilarious that Crysis is having to move backwards graphics wise from its first game to its sequal since they want to make more money in the 360 and ps3 market. I think the pc market is just getting destroyed by piracy and I guess the cost of a good computer =/. Until they announce a new platform I just can't see myself buying anymore ps3 or 360 games, their all the same aside from minor tweaks in the gameplay.
I'll never buy the game because i refuse to pay monthly for a video game I already payed for. However I must say that Star Wars trailer was fucking the most bad ass shit i seen in a long time. Who knew Jedi could do the Kamehameha like Goku lol.

yeah it's insane if you think about how fast graphics improved just a short time ago.
But maybe this is a good thing because this might mean game developers focusing on innovation isntead of just graphics. Then again I dont really feel like that's the case with this flooding of mediocre FPS games nowadays.
The little bit of actual game footage I've seen of The Old Republic is completely different from their way hyped up trailers they keep showing everywhere. The ingame footage shows a hotbar like every other mmo, and fairly clunky fighting. I mean it still looks like a very good mmo as they go but I hate how the trailors way way way mis represent what their actually making.
new metal gear game looks interesting. I've loved all the MGS games but was pretty skeptical of rising since it seems like it's just milking the brand and kojima has limited involvement in it AND it's a new genre that they have never done before. but the trailer, however limited, looks like it could be pretty cool.
goldeneye: the best shooter to everyone who never played or heard of PC
Fixed
True, it and Halo where very revolutionizing for the genre, but console shooters are still so inferior to good PC shooters it's not even funny.
how did goldeneye revolutionize anything at all? ill give halo credit for coming up with a lot of standard stuff today (not that all of it is even necassarily good though ) like melee/grenade buttons and rechargable shields, but seriously wtf did goldeneye do?

well there are ports and then like totally new console-only spinoffs.
I consider a shooter to be a PC shooter if it was made for the PC 1st and then ported over to the consoles (as is the case with games like FEAR and The Orange Box). if it was the other way around then it's probably bad any way so I dont care about it but it's not a PC shooter (such as Modern Warfare 2).
franchises like unreal and battlefield actually had complete console spinoffs too, but that doesnt mean that UT3 or BF2 aren't PC shooters. cuz they are

I was thinking about the present though and about single player games. None of these are single player games and all of them are really really old (not that I dont like playing some of them, even now, but still) Also TF's and UT's and BF's sequels are all console games too.

it's not just controls (or graphics for that matter) though. when a shooter is designed for the PC, it's very clear in how fast-paced the game is and complex the controls are. Counter-Strike was fucking garbage on the xbox because of how fast-paced it is and how imprecise and slow a controller is. crysis 1 would of never worked on consoles just because of how complex the controls were, and it's clearly evident in Crysis 2 that htey had to make a lot of changes to the controls (for better or for worse, but probably worse) simplifying things to make it playable on the 360/PS3.

True but I still think there's a bit too much elitism. As soon as youve gotten used to console controls playing FPS on it can be a lot of fun, youre simply just not as fast and accurate as with a PC, but it's not like we're all intending to become progamers.
That being said, Half Life 1 was the best FPS experience ever.

Nah, I think Idea has a pretty good definition of console vs PC FPS games. It's about what system the games were initially designed for, not what system they eventually come to. Bioshock, for example, is not a PC FPS game. CoD and CoD2 came out for the Xbox, but both were PC games that got ported over.
It's not just about accuracy and reaction times. It's also about the type of gameplay they can throw at you. Like, you're never really caught off guard that much playing MW2. In Fear or Doom 3, you are.
I just thought of a bunch of other PC FPS games now. Prey, Far Cry, Undying, one of the Riddick games, Quake Wars, Painkiller, STALKER.

Nah, I think Idea has a pretty good definition of console vs PC FPS games. It's about what system the games were initially designed for, not what system they eventually come to. I dont really see where that contradicts my statement though. OK for TF2 maybe, but I for example intentionally didn't mention counterstrike cause that game was clearly a pc game, Battlefield Bad Company and the latest UT however are clearly real console games.

Well in the last trailer "Deceived" the Empire/Sith did win.
This trailer was called "Hope" and the Republic/Jedi won.

im not trying to sound like some elitist saying that "all shooters are better on the PC." If a shooter is designed right it can still be really fun on a console, it just has to be slower paced and less precise (this is why I think cover-based shooters have gotten so popular, they dont rely nearly as much on twitch reflexes). The problem is that shooters on PCs can be really awesome but can be basically impossible to make (fun IE playable) on a console.
time will tell about crysis 2, but I still stand by Crysis 1 being the last FPS on the PC to maintain 100% creative integrity (basically saying "this is the game we want to make and it will only work on the PC so it's only going to be on the PC"), where as every other game I can think of had to make sacrifices to make it more playable on the consoles.
P.S. what is so fast about counterstrike. You die about as fast as you do in MW and moving is obviously extremely slow compared to something like Quake.
On June 15 2010 07:58 7mk wrote: well what do you mean by PC shooters though? Only non console shooters I can think of are Crysis 1 and Half Life 2
I mean FPSs for PC in general are just a lot better than FPSs for consoles, due to controls. This is true for non exclusive games as well, except when they fuck the PC version up due to laziness (hello MW2). Just an opinion of course but I really don't understand people who like FPSs for consoles better than for PC.
I'm not saying console FPSs can't be good at all, I loved Goldeneye (and still do, but mostly due to nostalgia), and I think Halo for example is a good game. But I do think that PC is a vastly superior platform for the genre.

playing MW on a console I feel like im in a tank or something. extremely slow cursor movement and limited peripheral vision due to small resolution.
in CS on highest resolution I feel so so so much more like I'm actually there and the keyboard/mouse are just extensions of my sensory organs.

A psuedo-leak says that Valve will announce that they bought the Duke Nukem Forever source and will be finishing the game.
This leak came from 4chan's /v/ board though, so it's legitimacy is in high doubt.
Valve already confirmed that the Portal 2 surprise is Portal related. That doesn't rule out Episode 3 at E3, but it does rule out Episode 3 at the Portal 2 event.

I haven't played BC2, but UT3 was not a console game. Like, it's impossible to get the full potential out of the game using a controller. By that I mean the jumping, strafing, shock combos, rocket jumps, etc. It has to be played much slower, the way Halo and MW are.

Valve has slowed CS down quite a bit over the years, even from the original version of 1.6.
The main reason it's slower is simply because it's a tactical team game. No such console equivalent really exists, where one side is defending a specific base. It's played slowly because you're at a disadvantage if you go too quickly, not because there's a physical limit.

When it appeared the commandos had lost, and the leader was being held for decapitation the Sith whose blade ignited to kill him was Revan's. Revan was the one wearing the steel and bronze facemask.
Ok, let me see if I can help with the lightsaber block. There are many materials within the cannon universe that are able stop a lightsaber's blade. A link because I know people will demand such. Judging from the reaction of the blade in the video (visibly "cracking") my best guess would be that the Jedi was using cortosis gloves. Most likely the gloves were also imbued with the Force itself at the time of the strike.
For the Force Kame Hame Ha...I'm at a loss. That's a new one on me. Best guess? Programmer for the game is also a DBZ fan, or a poor choice for the animation for a Force blast.
To anyone trying to hype how awesome the GoldenEye remake will be.... they already did it, remember GoldenEye: Rogue Agent? No? that's because it sucked. I dare you to grab an N64 emulator and actually have fun playing the original goldeneye controls.
I loved it when it came out. I also loved rampage total destruction. But if I saw a new game where you play a monster and just spend the whole game punching buildings, I wouldn't go near it.
If you are excited about the new goldeneye game I'm afraid youre suffering from an acute case of nostalgia.

She's supposed to be an example of the Jedi Councillor. The Councillors were inspired by The Force Unleashed, as well as Emperor Palpatine and Yoda, but whom primarily use the force for combat rather than a saber.
They're weak in lightsaber combat - which shows when she's promptly defeated in melee combat by a lightsaber specializing warrior.

I have a theory on who that Jedi is. However with no in game pictures of the character I cannot be sure, but I believe it might just be a young Grand Master Satele Shan. But it's just too hard to tell for sure.
If you want to see in game video Lz, you can make an attempt at going to the game's website. There is plenty of in game video there, assuming it'll work long enough for you to watch it all.

Must be MW2.
People complained to DICE that BC2 was too slow paced, and they make it just a tidbit faster and now it's a MW2 copy...lol
dude it's not made by DICE lol. it's made by EALA. they just said "we will be consulting with DICE" or something along those lines, which pretty much means they just want to try to get DICE's name on it somehow so people get more excited about it.
im interested in finding out which DICE team is making the multiplayer though. probably not their main team. this is a lot different from bad company 2 gameplay (almost no vehicles (like 1 per map "sometimes") and no destructible environments like in BC2) so it will be interesting to see if they can make it unique and fun enough to be make me want to buy it.
That game looks sick so far. Hopefully it's an expansion pack though and not a stand alone game (therefore cheaper) since the the timing is in the lull of time already in AC2.

I think it's a stand alone game with the whole multiplayer feature now. I'm a little worried because 2 of the most important staff members left Ubisoft Montreal recently. Hopefully it won't affect the game since AC2 was such a hit and improvement over the first.

Thank God for EA.
This is not something I wrote, but from someone on another forum. I found it pretty funny and inline with what you said.
The theme of this year's E3 is a competition to see which CEO is doing the most powerful drugs.
Microsoft started it off pretty well on Sunday by inducting all the attendees into their religion. Recording devices were forbidden, but through people snapping pictures of the inside of the hall, we got to see some disturbing scenes. Every attendee got to borrow their own white silk ponchos, which came with a weird device that apparently lit up and changed colors. The performance was organized by Cirque de Soleil, and involved families floating on couches, robotic elephants, and light shows. Oh, and Kinect was revealed as the new name for Natal.
Microsoft continued with their press interview this morning. I slept through it, but all reviews said it was boring - they focused only on the casuals with their Kinect.
EA was next, and was actually pretty decent. They revealed 10 games.
Ubisoft just ended, and they're the ones that compete with the initial thing for the amount of drugs people were taking. There was a laser tag competition, a spiritual sequal to Rez on Kinect, a Vitality Sensor of their own (?!), a breathing game, more weird sports, in between some actual good games.

I dunno, but if you think about it, it seems like that period would fit better with the whole "Sun Tzu" theme they go for in Shogun.
If I had to guess, it probably has to do with them wanting a "late period" to include early muskets/cannons etc and relations with the west

Why would that fit better? It has less factions, less famous persons, limited weapons(as you already stated), it's smaller as a whole. They didn't even scratch the surface in the first game(+addon) and it was already a really good game.

If I had to guess, it probably has to do with them wanting a "late period" to include early muskets/cannons etc and relations with the west
Why would that fit better? It has less factions, less famous persons, limited weapons(as you already stated), it's smaller as a whole. They didn't even scratch the surface in the first game(+addon) and it was already a really good game.
simply because Sun Tzu was born in China around that Era, or much closer to that era than the middle ages
Kirbys game looked very nice, but nothing about it looks like a kirby game. Looks like a new unique game with the kirby universe slapped on to it. OMGEPICAKES! DK country looks hella fun! The 3DS is nice, I predict this is going to do very well especially with Kid Icarus.

Yeah, and they also said it wouldn't be out before 2011 sometime, so they have plenty of time to fix any bug :D

The fact that swing and shielding directions actually matter are also really awesome, though that didn't show up too well during the demo.

Zelda demo was very obviously marred by technical problems and not actual gameplay problems. There is no way they would actually have it work like that, its Nintendo/Zelda for christs sake. 100 percent guaranteed it will play amazingly by the time it comes out, even if control problems pop up during development they will be fixed without a doubt.
So glad to see the Wii Zelda looking like a cel-shaded Twilight Princess. I really hoped there would be distinction between TP and Wii Zelda as far as visuals go, and they pulled it off well. Not only is this new cel-shaded yet "mature" graphic style highly artistic, it also immortalizes the dark tone of TP and gives it a stronger and more unique identity in the franchise history. What they showed looked great but by the time the game is further along it will be even better. Sometimes with Zelda games its not so much about how 1 element works its how all the elements differ, and how they transition from one to the next artistically that make playing the game interesting and rewarding.
I can't see Sony topping Nintendo, especially not if they announce the rumored $9.99 PSN+ that gives you PSN discounts, more demos, cross game chat, and background downloads.
I think it's safe to say the 3DS will get ridiculous 3rd party game support. They know how huge a success every Nintendo handheld has been, especially the DS, so they'll all be 100% on board.

I mean, there's only been the three press conferences so far. Sure, a lot of stuff has happened, but you don't need a megathread to watch the three press conferences. People should be doing that on their own.
I'll try to find links to the press conference videos, though.

The DS itself has dominated the handheld market, but the games are being hurt by piracy. Everyone and their dog has a DS flash card. Nintendo will be working overtime to make the 3DS uncrackable.
It's a shame both ways, IMO. Game developers don't deserve to have their games pirated, but the homebrew apps make the DS an incredible system. (My favorite part about my DS is the homebrew port of Nethack) It'd be great if aNintendo could have part of their handheld system open source// programmable, like an Android phone.
We were just whisked away to a totally secret back room to get some hands-on time with the Nintendo 3DS. While it may look a lot like the DS at first blush, the hardware we handled had some notable enhancements. First: That 3D screen.

Yeah, Nintendo's official demonstration of Skyward Sword had a ton of lag, but it seems that when journos/bloggers were playing at the booths, the controls were pretty responsive. Really curious about what was causing the super interference during the official demo though?

The Zelda game looked good, but the on stage demo had some problems, but nothing that has any reason to remain at release. But they announced a new Kirby game for the Wii which looked amazing, a new Donkey Kong Country game that looked really great, Epic Mickey which looked surprisingly good (considering that almost every 3rd party game for the console sucks), and a gameplay trailer of the new Metroid game. Then there was Golden Sun for the DS, and I think I'm probably missing some other things as well. But yeah then it was the 3DS and a huge amount of announced titles and 3rd party developers for it.
In general though they just had really good flow throughout the show, and no dragged out embarrassing moments like MS had (maybe Zelda was a bit long).

lol literally every E3 sony gets up on stage and says:
"i know the PSP is having some rough times, but this year we're starting a new campaign of support for the PSP!"
and then they announce some new bundles or something and maybe 1 new main franchise spinoff (07 god of war, 08 the resistance PSP game, 09 peacewalker, now the new god of war again lol)

you know that all valve games have gone to consoles since like 2005 right?
Yes but any PC game made for console is dumbed down horribly both graphicly and control wise. Console graphics are the equivalent of what my pc could do like 10 years ago? Its pretty disappointing to me at least.

valve always make for hte PC 1st and then ports, and it shows. portal 2 wont be any different.
I guess we will see, Valve also doesn't normally announce their games for a console at a console maker's show( before even announcing it for PC ) and I doubt anyone would have said that would ever happen earlier today.
I hope that Valve surprises us and unveils Half life 2 Episode 3. I don't care if this pushes back Portal 2 ten years, the world has been waiting for this game forever.

this probably just means that it might be worth money on the console, valves prev. console game ports (tf2 for my core example) was absolute shit, and would not be worth the money.
omg jaffe got me so good. yea i mean, if I were sony I'd totally consider the last guardian as a huge highlight of their lineup, they showed the debut trailer for it last year so I'm quite surprised there wasn't even any mention of it or small sampling of footage in a montage anywhere (AND THERE WERE LOTS OF MONTAGES). im a bit worried but I guess we'll find out tomorrow. maybe they delayed it to fully integrate PS move stuff or something (that could be interesting).

I would consider an announcement of Ep3 as a disappointment now. They need to announce Half-Life 3 instead, it has gone way to long since Ep2 and it's 6 years since HL2 was released (the same amount of time it took between HL1 and HL2).

Valve has already said that Half Life 3 will be a different story not involving Gordon. Therefore it's much more important that we get ep3 first so we can finish off that story-line before we move on.

You'd be better of seeing some hands on footage from the expo anyway. They had some technical difficulties on stage that made the gameplay look really flimsy, but everyone who has tried it hands on agree that the controls are great.

Why do you regret buying a Wii? It got more really good exclusive games than PS3 and Xbox, and if you have a gaming PC and a Wii you really can play the best games(excluding a few like God of War 3)

So far... The Zelda demo has been really disappointing. The Sony Move seems to have a wayyyy better 1:1 movement thing.
I don't think you will encounter these problems yourself, unless you usually have a few thousands nerds using twitter on their phone in your living room. I really hope they DO make it really good, and I wish they could make an alternative method too, so we could use the classic controller if we felt like doing that. It's also really boring that people with a handicap can't play anymore :/

People who have actually tried it at the expo say that the controls are great, so what they showed on stage is not a representation of how responsive the controls will be.
Less than impressed by the SW:TOR gameplay shown at E3. Been following this game for a year plus, and was expecting better. I know it was just basic combat, but watching a Trooper stand there and get shot for two minutes by a giant droid while a Jedi stands at range "casting" is not what I wanted to see.
The trailers, movie, and even the literature have very kinetic combat. The game does not, so far
Can't wait. Earlier this year when Portal was free on Macs, I convinced a lot of my mac-user friends to get it and play through it. I converted a bunch of them, and now our plan is to all get the game and play through it together - all on separate screens, but solving difficult puzzles by committee.

There was so much more KOTOR gameplay later on. Where the guy was playing as a Sith Lord or something and he was going around clearing mobs for a quest or something. It looked pretty legit. It was really fluid combat like WoW to give an example, but they did a great job with the spells too. I personally can't wait for more footage, but the little FP gameplay we got was enough to keep me interested.

I watched it all. I left out the SI gameplay footage because it was of starter quests, which are never the best samples for a game.

Well, it is an MMO, so the combat is always cheesy unless there's a MMO that I don't know about. If SWTOR somehow incorporate lightsaber combat system from Star Wars: Jedi Academy/Outcast, FPS mode for soldier, bounty hunter (3rd person view when on jet pack or whatever), etc then it'll be a sick game.
The biggest gripe I have is how the CGI trailer is insanely cool, while the game looks cartoony and bright like WoW. If the game was a little more gritty like the Diablo series then it'll be great.
While we haven't seen any longer combat sequences, save the Warzone demo earlier, positioning seems to be a non-factor. See an enemy, stand there/close distance, use abilities. I want to see some strategy, I guess. The toons were too low-leveled to see strategy in an ability-usage sense, but positioning doesn't have a level restriction.
Someone mentioned that the JC might have been just positioning to get a good camera angle for the viewers. S/he may be right, even tho it was terrible. That's important to the advertisement-esque nature of these demos, I suppose. Lots of "zawmg lightsaberrr and lightninggg and trooper tankin damage like a BAWSS!" fans.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm totally on-board for this. I love Star Wars, and BioWare, and MMOs, and I'm a philosophy student with a passion for ethics, so this game is like, my wet dream.
Also, I'm watching the footage again, and it gets a little better each time.

I got to play the new Zelda at E3 today and I would agree that the controls are really not all that bad. It took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to swing horizontal, vertical and diagonal, from there the game is ZELDA. Honestly I wasn't too impressed with the graphics but I understand it was an early demo, although I don't have too high of hopes with the Wii, plus, you can bowl bombs now .
And having spent most of my childhood playing Goldeneye 64, my review of the new one is .
It plays like any other first person console shooter nowadays except with Goldeneye characters, the melee wasn't even a karate chop and the health/shield UI is gone. Pretty disappointing I have to say.
Safe to say that E3 2010 is the year of sequels and remakes? I don't know, I'm sort of disappointed.
Hardly any new ideas, just recycled crap.
Sequels are fine and all if they're spaced well enough. Like for example it's about time Twisted Metal had a sequel, but most of these titles are just churned out like crazy.

yea im very disappointed in the HUGE amount of sequels being made right now. I can only think of a select few new IPs at the show: child of eden, brink, bulletstorm, sorcery, and vanquish. and honestly only child of eden looks very interesting to my out of those and that's because it's basically just the sequel to rez lol. looks like the last guardian isnt even at the show
so depressing compared to 2006/2007 E3s where it looked like the game industry was finally moving away from masses of sequels (back when resistance, gears of war, uncharted, dead space, mirrors edge, and assassin's creed were all 1st announced and way more appealing than they are 3 games later).
hopefully next year we will start seeing some new IPs, the amount of sequels is really just getting to embarrassingly high levels.

As for E3, I'm waiting to see if Valve will announce anything other than portal 2, and to see what Blizzard has to say.

You, personally, don't have to bring something up again and again in order for it to be considered a dead horse. I can't click on a topic on TL these days without seeing "ACTIVISIONblizzard" and "money-grabbers."

Uh right. I brought up the problem with Activision maybe a couple of times, but compare it to posts and threads on here, it's harmless.

See the main reason why sony didn't announce a PSP2 or whatever the name of the successor is because 1st of all: Their current PSP/PSP Go are both not selling so well, mainly because of piracy of every game the developers are making, thus they made the new PSP/PSP Go campaign which launches this month, in the States you get the Go with 3 games: Rachet and Clank, GT, and LBP for free, while in Europe you get 10 GAMES for free with it. I think they are bundling in more games with the PSP 3000 too. So with all upcoming launch titles, they are hoping for a great boost to the PSP's name. 2nd of all: They knew that Nintendo will announced the 3DS in their press conference, so they dont wanna duke it out with their rival at the same time, they would rather have a look at the competition look for ways to possibily enhance their succesor product, and announce it most probably at TGS this year, because if they wait too long, the 3DS is going to eat the market as there is no competition to it.
Assuming the combat is actually somewhat skillbased, man I can see myself playing that <3 GW Orks so much.
I liked it, but who the hell are Vigil? Looked into them a bit and they aren't exactly well known, so it'll be a crap shoot. Can't see this having any chance of competing with SWTOR & WoW unless they really manage to do something special.
The 3DS looks so sick. I really wanna see in person how this 3D thing works and what it looks like. Wondering if the analog stick and dpad would be comfortable to use though.... And why is the power button under the A/B/X/Y buttons? weird spot -__-
We'll have to wait to see where Adam's adventure takes him next, but it looks to be worth the wait. The build we saw wasn't extremely polished, but it made it very clear that the development team understands the franchise and wants to stay true to its roots. No release date is yet announced for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but you should expect to see this single-player-only, role-playing/shooter/stealth hybrid on shelves sometime in 2011.
All, Fallout MMO announced and TERA:
Korean MMO, so I expect it to be way more hardcore than WoW, but with faster, free flowing action.
In Crysis 2, shaders look fantastic. Textures look awful, but they only have 2 levels there.

I personally like the PS3 Move over the Kinect because it caters to a more "hardcore or adult gamer". The games for the Kinect are pretty much Wii clones. Comparing the Wii to the PS3 Move, the PS3 Move wins because of its superior technology. The Kinect cost like what, $149.99? The PS3 Move is being sold at $49.99 with $40 games.

XBox Live Arcade is $100 right now for Father's Day
the 499$ package includes a PS3 though lol
Yeah, but XBL Arcade + Kinect would be $250.
And I assume Kinect works for however many people you have there, whereas you need a Move controller for each person.
hm. that's a good point. on the flip side there's potential that you might actually use the move controller to play a real game, whereas you will only ever use kinect to play stupid party/casual games.
Holy hypeballs batman.... At first I thought nintendo failed with their showing but after looking more into the nintendo 3Ds, I wanna fucking buy one now... Even though I haven't seen seen a hint of how it actually looks. I've never bought a DS before but now I would happily send miyamoto my banking info as soon as possible.
Just check out the LINEUP for the 3DS:
Kid Icarus: Uprising, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3D, Batman, Assassin's Creed,Resident Evil,Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition, Mario Kart 3DS, Star Fox 64, and a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in 3D.
That's a monstrous lineup..... Holllyyyy shit. Resident evil in 3d???!! Fuck. I really hope this is some proprietary technology nintendo is using. If 3D truly is the next big thing, and nintendo can manufacturer or let others manufacturer tvs or something capable of 3D without glasses, they will have enough momentum to catch up with sony and microsoft and produce fresh, new, amazing games on par with what they've produced (i.e. bioshock, assassins creed,, God of war etc.).

im completely nonchalant about the 3DS, mostly because I have both a DS and a PSP and I NEVER touch them becuase it's just a lost market (especially the PSP in that respect, even though I've played the PSP a whole lot more than the DS); if a team wants to make a cheap game it's just easier, cheaper, and has a better chance at success if they make it for the iphone (in the DS's case) or as a PSN or XBLA game (in the PSP's case). looks like the 3DS will be bringing the "best of both worlds" together in terms of DSeyness and PSP graphics, but i still dont see myself ever wanting to get a 3DS.

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I'm JUST starting to get into handheld games now thanks to my iphone. Since the beta went down I've been looking for games to play on my iphone (Yeah, because I can't even imagine my life BEFORE the beta right?). A few days ago against better judgement instead of buying a well known game like assassin's creed, splinter cell, gta or even final fantasy on the iphone I went with a totally unknown (to me) rpg called Zenonia. Best life decision ever. I must've logged in at least 30 hours on it already, and I have two other classes to explore. I always wondered how the hell people could REALLY play a game on the tiny LCD screens you find on the DS and PSP. Now I know.
So add something completely novel and fresh like 3d without the glasses and I will be nintendo's bitch for the next year or so. I'm also confident that nintendo did not add the 3d as an after thought. I know that they will build games from the ground up, building the game around the 3d itself, making sure that its utilized to its fullest potentional.
As a person who lives in Korea and ride on the metro everyday for a long time, handhelds are a lifesaver to me. Believe it or not I couldn't buy myself a ps3/xbox/wii this generation not because I had no money but rather I had no time to play

Yeah, that's pretty common in Asia and other parts of the world where public transportation is huge. Last time I checked, Nintendo DS and PSP sales were a mile ahead of consoles in Japan. I remember watching a documentary on modern Japan's culture on Discovery Channel once and they did a short segment on how a lot of people (doesn't matter what age or sex) use handheld devices to pass time whether it's gaming, phone, or MP3 player.
I might get the Nintendo 3DS since I have never bought any of them (not even a GameBoy) in my entire life. Games such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and other games on the 3DS looks awesome.

I definitely don't want some retarded 1920 Gangsters/The Thing/Ghostbusters crossover or whatever it is they just showed.

[no sony even though i have ps3 im not going to buy ur silly homo wand move crap, i will buy a 360 just for it.]
Mark: I should qualify this by saying our primary goal is getting the game right. THQ fully supports us in this regard, and isn't breathing down our necks saying, "You must ship by a certain date!" They are nurturing this project and we are true to this project so that when we deliver it, it will be everything we want it to be and the community wants it to be.
With that in mind, we're shooting for right now to have the game shipped by the end of Quarter 1 of 2013.
ok so im basically going to just post my thoughts on the games that caught my attention the most (semi-chronologically lol):
gears 3 - I liked the 1st gears, the 2nd wasnt as good and was largely forgettable in almost every way (the only thing it improved on was that the gunplay felt a bit better with better sound effects and more satisfying guns). gears 3 doesnt look like it will be any better, just "another gears with more stuff" like 4 player coop (I dont even have 1 friend with a 360 let alone 3 so who fucking cares) and beast mode (lol like I'll ever pay for xbox live again).
halo reach - another halo game (thats a bad thing)
child of eden - as a HUGE fan of lumines I cant wait for this game. hopefully it will be as interesting to play without buying kinect though (and I think it will be).
killzone 3 - looks good I guess but so did killzone 2 until you play more than an hour and realize that guerilla games has some of the worst level designers in all of gaming
bulletstorm - pretty graphics and effects but looks insanely boring to play. looks like it will be really really easy and the only satisfaction will come from "wow look at these cool death animations!" which isnt really very fun to play to me.
littlebigplanet 2 - makes me wish I waited and only bought LBP2 instead of buying LBP1 and not playing it much at all. definitely looks cool and I might actually want to do the creation stuff this time, I'll wait and see though.
TWISTED METAL - OMG NEW TWISTED METAL CANT FUCKING WAIT. GAME OF THE SHOW
crysis 2 - looks like they consolized crysis a bit but I remain optimistic. crysis 1 was awesome and they are redesigning the aliens to be more humanoid (and thus most likely a lot more fun to fight than the aliens were in crysis 1, which was the worst part of that game). crytek promises that the AI will be "the best ever" and I remain pretty pessimistic about that, but I think that it will at least be improved which is a great thing.
rage - I really want to think rage will be good but I dont. gameplay looks really boring. hopefully they just decided to show their worst levels at E3 for some reason
dead space 2 - looks kinda cool i guess. maybe one day ill go and play dead space 1.
zelda - looks like zelda (and I never "got" zelda)
kirby - looks cool but I cant remember the last time I actually played and beat a platformer all the way through. fat chance of me ever playing this game though since I dont have a wii and dont ever plan on changing that
spec ops: the line - sounds about as intriguing as it did earlier this year, but almost no new information, no new gameplay videos, and only 1 new trailer. still think it could be cool as it seems like one of the few games at the show trying to do something pretty "arty" I guess, and plus it has greg kasavin (greatest game journalist of ALL TIME) working on it. that's always a good thing.
homefront - never heard of it until E3 but it looks like it has a lot of potential. I think the best way to describe it is half-life meets freedom fighters. check it out. gunplay already looks "good enough" and as long as they can keep up a good pacing and level design (which is very hard to do though) I think it will be pretty good. maybe I just have a soft spot for the premise though lol
mgs rising - new trailer only had like 15 seconds of gameplay footage but it looks pretty cool. I remain optimistic
fear 3 - fear 1 was one of my favorite games ever. fear 2 sucked (see my blog titled "what a waste" for details). fear 3 looks even worse. new developer (who SUCKS btw) and a complete misdirection on the design that goes against just about everything that made FEAR good. this game will be garbage and is a fucking disgrace to name of one of the best shooters ever made.
socom 4 - could be cool. I really miss squad based shooters (brothers in arms and freedom fighters were AWESOME) and I hope the squad stuff remains a big enough element in the game that it wont just be "another 3rd person covered-based shooter". also socom 2/3 was really good multiplayer for a console back on the PS2 so if they do things right this could distract me for a bit.
assassin's creed - assassin's creed fucking sucks. this looks just as bad as the others.
vanquish - didnt look TOO good and had a lot of rough spots, but platinum games is legit and I think they will pull it all together when it comes out.
epic mickey - seems pretty interesting and I can really respect what the game is going for but I can never see myself actually play it all the way through (just like how I am with the civilization games :\)
dead rising 2 - just like the 1st game: seriously, just watching zombies die can only be entertaining for so long before I want to kill myself. just like bulletstorm I feel this game is just for people who like to see gore and stuff on screen but dont care as much about satisfying game mechanics.
portal 2 - more portal but even more portalley. this is a good thing.
medal of honor - great reason why the game industry doesnt get the respect that it deserves (or does it?). even with DICE working on it's multiplayer I cant get excited at all.
need for speed hot pursuit - when i 1st heard that criterion was making it I got really excited. I read a preview and it sounded awesome. then I saw about 10 minutes of gameplay and it looks awful. that's too bad :\
call of duty - oh, the "other" CoD developer (not even the GOOD one) is making this one. from here on out CoD only goes further downhill (even though I think MW2 kinda sucked, I think sells and public opinion will start to go downhill now as activision doesnt have any talent at all working on it from IW and they plan on just whoring this IP out as long as possible)
xcom - could be good but i dunno, way too early to tell
holy shit that was so much longer than I thought it'd be omg
