Canada Cup 2010 seemed a whole lot bigger

I got Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine, here is what I have to say.

Shuma Gorath is a fucking beast, although I haven't been able to figure out any air combos that lead into OTG Hyper Combos you can Air Combo his level three Chaos Dimension. Chaos Dimension was nerfed really really badly since MvC2. I feel like it's not even worth it, and is probably one of the least appealing lvl 3 specials in the game. The only thing that can make it worth it is that you can air combo into to it or use it as finisher because it's unblockable. The timer for Chaos Dimension is faster too, I'd say almost 2x as fast as in MvC2 and the damage feels like it's 1/2 the damage it was in MvC2. His other hyper combos are so so, but what makes Shuma good is he has good ground game and some cool air combos. L., M., Cr.H, Jump, Air M., Air M. Up+Air H., Land, M., Launcher into air combo is so fun to execute. His Launcher in Air is also amazing and is definitely the best usage of launchers in air in the game as he turns to stone and immediately pounds the ground below him like in MvC2. His Mystic Stare (hold back 3 seconds, forward Atk) is very good and the heavy version goes full screen and is very fast. His Mystic splash is easier to execute as it's simply Fireball Atk and has many uses. His other specials are decent but aren't entirely worth while although he has a half circle back grab that can chain into some specials. Also he can only air dash forwards or backwards, still useful.

Great switch ups, awesome air combos and sick damage potential, he is definitely worth the DLC, 8/10.

Jill on the other hand, I'm not entirely sure she is worth it. She is very odd and is completely unlike her counter part in MvC2 which is a shame, a damn shame. Every character that was in MvC2 thats in MvC3 is practically the same in every way, except Jill. It sucks because Jill in MvC2 was a very good character and has easy to execute combos for high damage, also her specials were unique and could summon zombies, birds and dogs, not any more . Jill is now turned into a strange character who can be fast at times. Her main special moves are all linked to a Down Down Launcher, which allows her to dash very quickly in any direction but you can't jump normally while doing this. If you do her fireball special with any attack they all have different uses and the light and medium transition into her Down Down Launcher stance where you can either use the dash or press Light, Medium or Heavy and get a new move. She has a Hyper Combo that is similar to Wolverines Down Down Atk+Atk where he becomes super fast, but rather jill can't combo very well while in this mode and can't even jump normally, I haven't been able to find a use for this ability. Her normal Fireball Hyper Combo is also pretty useless but it can get you out of sticky situations because it has fast start up and it throws you across the screen. The move essentially attacks in all directions so there is no real use for this to get high amounts of damage, it may be useful to cancel other Hyper Combos or get you out of a corner or avoid certain specials. Her best Hyper Combo is with Dragon Punch but it doesn't OTG and you can't use it in the Air, it's only useful if you can link it with a ground combo. She has no air dash. All around she is a very awkward character, I would like to see what the pros have to say about her but I feel like she will be the first character that is actually terrible and not used, even by JW.

Good Ground Combos, awful air combos and a very limited skill set. Her Hyper Combos are perhaps the worst in the entire game and she is awkward to use. I wish they just made her like in MvC2 . 3/10, not worth the DLC unless you are a RE fan.

Shuma is now my main character as he was my favorite to use in MvC2, rolling with Shuma, Wesker and Dr. Doom.

justin wong was saying that socal feels jill has the highest skill cap because of how incredibly good you have to be to use her effectively, but she would be awesome at that level. though i'm unsure if they are correct about that. EDIT it could have been james chen recalling a conversation with justin.

I'm sure we'll see some nice combo vids of her in the future, but no OTG air combos and awkward specials just make her weird. Her Back Fireball Hyper Combo which makes her really fast for awhile I can see has potential for confusing someone to hell but good luck trying to get some decent combos in because you can't shorten/lengthen the dash and thats all you can do when your in that mode, you can only dash a certain distance which will make comboing with the Hyper very hard to pull off.

I can't say enough good things about shuma except his Chaos Dimension is nerfed beyond belief, only redeeming factor is you can combo into it and grabbing someone only requires hitting Heavy. Any good keep away character can easily avoid him because the timer is really short.

which is y every shuma i've seen pop lvl 3 mid combo. its not like anybody just did x-23 lvl 3 random fullscreen. also your comment on mvc2 jill lol. did we play the same mvc2? (thoughi do miss her herb assist though :D)

need to find a friend and bum off them for jill/shuma for myself. i did hear jill lvl3 is basically bang install (minus the BANG BANG BANG music ofc)

I stand corrected, looks like she has some good potential and is probably a character with a high skill cap. Still, I don't expect her to be a staple character but who knows we've seen JW use weird characters before and own shit up. After watching this I kinda want to go practice those moves.

you should watch jwongs wesker jill shuma. he used it in a wednesday night fight i think. he had a bunch of cool combos that he dropped halfway through because he had only played jill for 20 minutes.

I miss the old mvc2 jill, but with the new otg system, the old jill would be ass anyway =P wtf @ her being blonde now tho, no me gusta. That's some pretty simple jill combos, not very damaging sadly.

Shuma seemed like he had some ok tools for getting in, but a lot of his moves (the blanka ball especially) are really baitable in match once you get used to it.

Shuma does have the rare advantage exclusive to just him, Tron, and the dog of not being comboable by the cinematic hyper into sentinel drones dhc damage reset glitch. The sentinel drones tag em the wrong way as they fall and they safely reset, avoiding the crazy 100% combos.

Marn surprised me today, didn't think he'd make it that close after Final Round where it looked like Justin had solved him. I think he's converting a lot of people over to Zero.

I honestly don't know why shes blonde, thats just how she looks in RE5, same costume and everything. I played and beat RE5 over and over again, and yea they don't take the time to tell you why she is blonde, maybe when wesker was experimenting on her he wanted her to have the same hair color as him? lol. Or maybe it's a side effect of oroboros, I have no clue.

Jill was great in MvC2, easy air combo into hyper for some decent damage and a lot of her moves were viable. She was to me, considered a cheap character because of all the keep away she could do and the easy combos so I guess MvC3's jill is an upgrade in that regard since her moves are more straight forward. Still, I'm sure with the old jill capcom would've found a way to make her beastly in MvC2, I just miss her old move set

looking back at what I said, Chaos Dimension (lvl 3 super) is actually excellent. I miss the old damage and the OTG you could do in MvC2 after executing the grab. In MvC3 you can pretty much link it with anything basically they traded the moves ridiculous damage for easy execution. Yeah shuma is sick, definitely on my A team.

Jill's combos are so tough to do but her potential seems amazing. X_X she has so much mixups and resets ... Her biggest strength is the Feral Crouch cancel that lets her get out of ANYTHING. She seems like she'll be the new Magneto in the game as she can do ridiculous pressure once you get into a flow with Feral Crouch canceling as her recovery from everything is neutral which means she can pressure any normal block strings into overhead, crossup, lows, etc. I just need a combo with her that I can pull off without getting cramps on my wrist. May have to move to pad since I have some Blazblue Rachel muscle memory built in from CT. =(

Shuma looks really solid too but didn't impress me as much as Jill besides his OMG Ray assist.

you need to watch james chen at marvel madness with shuma.

he did a 70% combo and realized he could have gotten 100% had he done something different at the end.

I think the developers when remaking her for the game wanted her to be sexier so they gave her tighter clothing and blonde hair. I think I read that somewhere.

edit: got bodied last sunday at our arcade tournament. demon hyo is nasty (runnin dat MSS remix rocket punch and all). and the phoenix fight is scary, i need some more experience on that.

oh wesker got a thing for blondes. yea i do miss the good ol "I'm A Member of STARS". plus the cool herb life gain assists (jill/amingo only iirc) got replaced by the meter gain assists here (ammy/morrigan).

lol my friends and i are total noobs but now I am the dominant force. Ammy's side B with disc is ridiculous since it chains so easily into launch, Sentinel speaks for himself, and zero is fantastic with sentinel's assist and once he gets them into a corner.

Wesker seems insanely good too; gun spam+teleport. His jab spam into launch is pretty strong too; that is my standard approach to the game with most characters lol, spam jab and then launch them for air combos.
