Open Beta starts at 11am PST, February 16th. Let's join together and form a Teamliquid clan! Invite as many teamliquiders as you can when open beta starts! There will be no character wipe after the start of open beta!

Introduction
After trying out closed beta, I can safely say that this game has far exceeded my expectations for a free game. Rumor has it that 12 million USD was spent in development. The results are lots of content and impressive graphics, making it a viable alternative to subscription based games such as WoW and Warhammer online.
What is it?
Allods Online is a f2p MMORPG with open PvP and faction-based combat between the League and the Empire.
First of all: Astral ships. A clan can build, customize, and operate their own Astral ship to navigate the Astral plane. This is a novel way to experience PvP combat in MMOs as it requires teamwork and decision-making on a large scale. The clan must work together to position the ship, fire cannons, repair, and even board adjacent ships simultaneously to successfully pwn enemy ships. In my opinion, Astral ships are a fresh addition to the standard MMORPG PvP that is also in Allods Online.
Check out this video for more information about Astral ships:
Second, each class has a normal talent tree of skills and a ruby talent tree. The ruby talent tree is unique in that you must buy rubies and place them on a grid adjacent to a nearby unlocked ruby. My description of this sounds confusing, so here's a link that should explain it: http://allodsbase.com/en/talents#_21xlxyy.
Why is it free?
I know what you're thinking; "This game looks amazing, has great content, and it's free ... so what's the catch?" Well, the developers' idea of creating a non-subscription based MMO is to reach a wider audience than games like WoW. As more gamers play the game, the in-game item mall should generate more revenue for the company. However, it is possible to play the game without spending a dime without built-in game content restrictions. I believe the item mall typically sells xp boost, aesthetic, and non-game-breaking temporary buffs. Weapons and other permanent items for your character cannot be bought in the item mall.
Poll: Which faction do you want to play as? (Vote): The League (Vote): The Empire
Poll: Which server do you prefer? (Vote): North America (Vote): Europe
Edit: added polls to determine preference for the TL guild.
I played in the beta for this....it seemed alright. I mainly just wanted to get leveling over with so that I could try out this boat system. Unfortunately, now that SC2 beta is coming out, I have lost all desire to do anything else with my life.

I just read about it, it's in open beta since oct 09, so this is incorrect, but it does look a lot like wow judging by the screens. I wouldn't recommend any kind of mmorpg to anyone though.
I tried it for a few minutes but the controls are kinda annoying... Extremely annoying to just pan the camera around -_-
EDIT: Which is too bad, as it looked like it could be fun. Just, I hate bad controls -- If SC2 beta doesn't come out when it's supposed to I might play.

Oh, really?
I'm already downloading it so I suppose I'll finish and try it out for myself, but that's really disappointing to hear.
The polls are going to close before the start of OB, so vote now if you want to play on a different server or faction! If someone wants to create a secondary TL guild on another server, then just pm me and I'll add player names under the separate Europe/North America guild.

Hold down the right-mouse button to rotate the camera.
Ok, going by the polls, the TL guild will be on the North American server Tensess, playing Empire. Check this thread after servers go up to see which name to add to your friends list.
Vent is a good idea. I don't have a mic, but I'll definitely listen in if someone is willing to open a vent channel. Just tell people the channel/password in-game after we are on each others friends lists.
Okey I will register in Empire/North America. I'm thinking of playing Summoner/Mage, haven't decided yet Got mic and vent so if someone is willing to chat during game, I'm up for it :}
About 5 minutes til launch. Starting zones will be overcrowded so we need to party up asap. I'll post my character name as soon as I can secure it. Post your character names asap so I can quickly edit it in to the OP.
Here's a tip for those who didn't play closed beta. Spend your talent points wisely. For example, if you're a warrior, don't just pump all of your points into strength, because without expertise, you'll be doing very little damage. Expertise reduces the chance of dealing "glancing blows" which deal like 5% damage, so if you completely ignore that stat you'll be dealing a high percentage of glancing blows and thus severely lowering your damage output.
The same thing applies to magic dealing classes, where strength is analogous to intelligence and expertise is analogous to intuition.
btw for everyone who complains about 'slow camera panning' you can up the look sensitivity, and if that isn't high enough for you thats all I can do for you really
Any updates guys? What levels are You on? Are You playing/gonna play soon? I'm installing it again, gonna start once more but with different character )

Is this slow or fast? Responsive?
Combat is a little slow in lvls 1-10. It starts to pick up a bit after that though.
/whisper me to get added in the guild or post your character name

My RL friend Danne just downloaded Allods and is registering as we speak. He'll be playing an avenger. I pointed him to this thread and told him to msg you guys. Be nice! : D
downloaded and started playing it, the game decided to hate me. locked up/crashed a few times, comp blue screened once and my graphics card kept getting errors. i didn't even have this many problems with aion T_T
I tried playing the game, but I keep getting cannot establish connection errors when I try to log in with the game client. Are servers down or is it just not liking me?
Won't be playing much anytime soon though, cuz im planning to get a new laptop. My current 5 year old laptop cannot handle the graphics although still being able to run it. ;P
I'm not going to be playing this game, but I tried it for a couple of seconds before wanting to shoot whoever designed the sensitivity setting. If you also wanted to smash your head through the monitor because of the camera speed, you can change it here:
I made a character on one of the servers, cant recall what side or anything... Ill remake if its on the wrong server/side to join you guys though and post later with my info. I just wanted to say that I hate how if you left click on something you start running towards it Is it possible to turn off that function?
Launcher broke on last update for a lot of people, but there is an easy fix:
1) rename your old launcher to something else (launcher1.exe for example) 2) start it, a dialogue box will appear, you must hit enter (to actually press the "invisible" OK) 3) wait until it finds that you're missing the launcher 4) then wait until it downloads a new one
There, after all is done you should have a brand new Launcher.exe that works.
I find the game OK. Looks too WoW-ish, but bah whatever. I have many exams now tho, so I dont think I will have time to play it much, but if I do I'll make sure to find some of you ;]
We wanted to take an opportunity to apologize to the community for our lack of communication. We made a mistake by not letting you, our most passionate players know when the item shop was going to go live and we didn’t make the effort to learn more about how all of you feel regarding the contents of the item shop. Because of our lack of communication to you, many of you were wildly taken back by what you saw in the item shop today.
We’ve heard you loud and clear and it’s no secret that some of our players feel the prices we have in our item shop are not fair.
Over the next several weeks we will continue to evaluate the details of our item shop and we will begin to introduce new items to help assist you throughout your Allods experience. We wanted to make clear that beyond the introduction of the item shop nothing has changed in Allods that wouldn’t allow you to enjoy the game just as much as you did during closed beta. You can still enjoy the entire game without ever having to spend a single cent. Additionally, many of the items available in the item shop are tradable in-game, appear through a number of quests, and can be auctioned off by other players.
I don't understand why any of you are complaining about high item mall prices. If it discourages the vast majority from buying them, it'll be easier to play at a high level for free. If they're affordable you'll be forced to buy them to stay competitive.

Holy crap, I spent 2 hours farming smugglers trying to get 6 pages and have them turn into the contraband only to realize that what I was looking for was a pile of books on the ground. Also, is anybody else even playing this, I try whispering thegadfly whenever im on, but he's never on. Anyone else capable of inviting me into the TL guild? I'm randombum btw.

I'm on right now. Try "Thegadfly" with the T capitalized.
I doubt I'll be playing this much until further notice. Got a bunch of essays to write and exams to study for and I'd rather play/watch sc in the limited free time I may have.
The TL guild died out a while ago unfortunately. I was the only one who got to lvl 40, and I disbanded the guild because I was the only active member left. I wanted to keep the TL guild open, but it's too hard to get in heroics groups without an active guild and grinding for heroic gear is basically the only thing to do at lvl 40. Eventually, I decided to leave the game for this very reason; I was sick of raiding for heroic gear when I'd much rather pvp. However, you cannot pvp effectively without damn good heroic gear, so it was kinda a catch22 situation. Anyway, now I'm playing a lot of SC2 beta instead.
As for patches, I haven't really looked at the patch notes for a while so I dunno. I didn't have a problem with incense while I was playing, but I heard that they might implement harder monsters/raids and Fear of Death upon resurrection to force players to use more incense. That would kinda suck if that's the case because you'd have to use incense basically all the time just to not die and have to wait an hour until FoD wears off.

Who knows... The term "open beta" is thrown around a lot nowadays. It basically means that the game is released and the company is already making money from it, except that they still want to make subtle changes to the game for whatever reason. Also, if the players have any complaints, then the company can say that it's in open beta and tell them to stop their bitching... lol.
It doesn't matter though because your characters will never get wiped and you'll (probably) never have to pay a subscription fee.
Started playing today, it's really wow :p almost an exact copy but that's for the good. The only thing I find weird is that there are only 2 servers? Is this still in beta or something? I'm on ZAK :p
It's apparently still in Open Beta, why? No idea. It's been that way since February I think. Why the keep updating the game as if it were live is also a mystery since apparently it is still open beta.
So... so far I have a scout, a warrior, and a psionist and I'm having trouble picking between these three... I just have one simple question to decide my class - which one is the most op
Hah interesting to see people still playing this. I started when open beta first came out and got a level 27 warden, then quit for SC2 (2nd wave invite hell yeah!) Anyone know if the game is still enjoyable without having to pay? As I remember there was a lot of complaining that real money items were going to break PvP and such, can anyone confirm/deny?
I am up to playing a MMOG where PvP/PK is global (other than something like towns), and very lenient punishment for it. Why? Mostly to deal with botting, but also things like Chinese labor farming, or even PvE no-lifers who just farm too much.
I'm sick of PvP-free zones, Ridiculously bad PK punishments, instanced dungeons (or at least instanced dungeons which are easy to get to) and inter-mingling PvP and PvE servers/channels. All those things make really bad playing experiences for me. It results in high inflation, lots of bots spamming gold stores, and other stuff.
Yeah Some lamer PKers who kill people for no reason is annoying, but even a game where you just have to ally to a certain faction (even factions that have different home towns), and stay near allied factions to keep safe would be good.
So yeah, if you guys are still playing this and stuff, I'm on... I started playing a day ago so i'm only level 5 or 6, but I'm up for helping 'cause it sounds like fun! If people still play this I'll post my info =D

I forgot to ask... does anyone know of such a game? (aside from something like EVE) In the description in the OP it says Allods is open PvP, but as far as I've researched, it is not - at least not by my definition. There's like massive penalties for standard player kills and/or safe areas, which I don't know how a person could really called that open PvP.
