I'm new to the series (and the bullet hell genre in general), and have recently started playing Imperishable Night as my first game in the series.
Does anyone have any tips on how to improve? I've gotten the "normal" ending, but when I go for the 1cc, I generally die on Reisen, but Marisa also saps a ton of resources (both lives and bombs). Also, the fact that I have no idea how to avoid Visionary Turning doesn't help matters...
I realize that I need to get better about bombing when I'm fucked, but I don't know how to recognize that I'm fucked; likewise, I need to get better at going to the Point of Collection to get more point icons for more lives, but I don't know when it's safe to do that. Any tips?

At least 8 had spell practice at all. It really was the best one in terms of feature set. Generally there are times with few enemies or a lot of homing bullets, I find these are the best time to go for item borders. Learning some basic tech like streaming ( that is to say: when attacked by homing bullets, dodge very slightly for awhile then make a big leap to the side to make the bullets aim where you are after the jump and then moving through the gap) would be helpful too, stage 4 of touhou 7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom) will drill the concept of streaming into your head.
I just cleared IN Lunatic with Reimu solo, and man Marisa just reamed me every single run. Her non-spells are just way too hard, especially when you're only doing half damage to the familiars.
I think the lesson to be learned here is that if you're stuck on something you might just want to preemptively bomb the shit out of it before you lose lives. In Touhou you get a lot of lives, and each life is at least three bombs. I do well on all the other stages, so I just Fantasy Orb'd through Marisa's BS.

practice!
when in focused mode move as little as possible to improve your reading/dodging skills so you don't blow bombs when you don't need to
this should also teach you streaming and help with item collection - you can stream the death fairies on stage 4 in youkai mode pretty easily, and once they die you can de-focus and weave through the remaining bullets to the POC since most of them would have been cleared
Not bad :D Actually for a dogfight, this was actually interesting to watch. Usually I just go meh and stop watching. The song is fine too.
The acapella is wtf, idk what that is even ;(
LOL WTF I JUST NOTICED. It's not all touhou music, and on top of that, it's not 1 song xD.
It's sorta bad, but not fail.
Somone else is awesome song from anime "Working!" the OP is really good too

Ok first. Visionary tuning: This one took me ages to figure out. At least I think I figured it out my self. w/e. everytime the bullets phase out, you move to a empty pocket (preferably as large as possible) and keep tapping down to stay with it as phases in and until it phases. At the start of the spell card you can kind of stall by not moving from the bottom until you absolutely have to.
First, you should go to spell card practice and try and capture every spell that you've seen. levels 1-5. Then capture every spell again. Note that this may be really really hard for earth ray light beam or something, but its quite fun, you get to dodge without fearing anything. Generally this helps you the most when you have no bomb stock left. Anyways, after you do that you can go and practice the stages. Generally the most practice needs to go to stage 4, but in general you need to practice on the level patterns AND importantly the non-spells. Those are not availible in spellcard practice and are often equally difficult. The first time you level practice you probably are going to curse hard. Probably the second time as well. After maybe 6-9 tries (ass-pulling numbers) it should start feeling better.
On deathbombing. I don't know if this is any help, but when you are parsing all the incoming bullets, and then you make a dodge around a bullet, without being able to evaulate course of action/see bullets headed to your new location, THAT is the time to bomb. You should generally be able to trust when you can dodge, except for some clippy shit.
Oh yea, and if you can help it, don't bumrush to the top in stage 4. Or if you do, practice the stage enough to be able to kinda know when it's safe. The goal is to take Marisa down losing 1-2 lives and Reisen only losing 1. Then you can bomb your way through Kaguya with ~6 lives.
edit: spell pratice does NOT require 1cc, you just need to have seen a card before.
