I'm a bit hyped for f(x) because Pink Tape was amazingly fun.

If true that is horrible.

^ So is the convenient timing of Bom's story meant to attempt: 1. to cover up this story about the stupid use of Sewol charitable funds 2. to reinforce the idea that the Korean government is corrupt, therefore, Bom's story could have been buried through payoff 3. to get Korea's attention off of SM's arse 4. to get Korea's attention off of JYP's arse

Used to be a pretty big 2ne1 fan until the "Ugly" single and album release in ~2011 I think and haven't followed them much at all in the last few years (or kpop) in general but this is pretty sad but not surprising. I think it's safe to assume that celebrities do a lot of shady stuff which is swept under the rug by their agencies by paying off corrupt people in charge.
It's is indeed scary though that the government just puts big time stories out there and ruins people's careers to divert the shitstorm away from their mess. A lot of countries do it though, we just know about it from the koreans because we frequent places that talk about it.

even disregarding rankings I disagree with half that list

Boy was I premature with that thinking.... If that doesn't sound like a payoff, I don't know what does... If proven so, this is beyond scandalous really.... Can't tell who would be in bigger trouble, Bom for doing the action or YG for trying to bury the story...
Apparently in 2010, YG filed a complaint that they would sue all for spreading false statements about 2NE1 being involved with drug use/traffic near the time where E-Sens from Supreme team was caught.... In retrospect, I guess you can't say YG was lying, Netizens had to be SPECIFIC with their comments, P-A-R-K B-O-M or risk getting sued.... well amphetamines are arguably less damaging than weed or alcohol is, so idk what you are all on about with the scandalous thing it's not like she was caught smoking rocks or doing heroin
a bunch of people in the entertainment business, eg models, artists, actors make liberal use of the substance as well, this is not that big of a deal
|
Well it's illegal in Korea.
|
I'm not saying it's not a big deal in korea I'm saying it shouldn't be that big of a deal for us if you know what the substance actually is

Is it? Just because you got a medical marijuana license in USA doesnt mean you can bring that shit anywhere. Same with this stuff, she could've had a prescription for it in the USA, doesn't mean she can take it into Korea where it's illegal. If she thought it was legal why was it shipped to someone with another name but when they checked out the address it was her place... Well my popcorn is already out so Im gonna keep following this mess

The deal is not the fact that one is taking pain killer, cocaine, weed, etc... The deal is that one has attempted to illegally transport an object through international borders that is the issue...
|
lmao so your issue with this 'scandal' is entirely based on a minor legality? not something like a moral/health based interest?
|
Smuggling is a bigger offense than consummation... You can get a federal sentence for smuggling and ++ if distribution was involved. What is the sentence for consummation? Probation + group meeting in addiction anonymous..? Please...
|
there is no sentence for consummation if both parties are legally of age and willing
|
I doubt it's illegal in korea with prescription. Even in the US if you have a prescription you can bring over an illegal drug. Though I'm sure hard drugs are blacklisted like cocaine and heroine.

I mean yea, she had a legal foreign prescription, but with Korea's substance laws as draconian as they are, the pills were most likely detained/confiscated at point of entry.
point is, amphetamines are a classic upper & stimulant, and the amount that she 'smuggled' isn't even enough for intent to distribute. picturing bom's alter ego as a speed dealer is mildly amusing tho
I'd guess her use has to do with coping with stress & fatigue in her schedules. not using it as a means for justification, but a lot of college students also abuse the substance.
I still do not understand why the majority in the west would find something like this to be appalling unless they're assuming speed to be equivalent to PCP or heroin or something.
also prescription for Ritalin/adderall is ridiculously easy to obtain in the US as ADHD is kind of hard to document for a doctor and frequently overdiagnosed, so I'm not surprised she managed to obtain a prescription.

Apparently someone is having fun on Wikipedia removing info boxes on Kpop pages which list the real names, nicknames and hangul translations of kpop artists. In the name of making the pages "better".

You want dem romanizations, television appearances, and bust size measurements you go on back to ko.wikipedia.org. - Seriously though, Korean wiki is awesome, unless you're nugu/your company's PR department is grossly inept.

Apparently Yang Hyun Suk posted his response in his blog, rough translation of main points:
Basic premise being 4 years ago Bom's parents brought the problem/case to Yang only. Nobody in 2ne1 knows, nobody in YG knows until the news came in today. He goes on about how Bom has been with 2ne1 for 9 years they've never been to a club, they don't drink that much and don't smoke. Then talks about how Bom grew up in the US and her dream was to be a soccer player, and in a soccer match her friend died and she witnessed it first hand and Bom had a hard time dealing with this. She went to therapy in a well known university hospital and continuosuly took the prescription medication they gave. From then on she gave up playing soccer and went to korea to become a singer where she failed many auditions and said she will only become a singer in YG. Her mom and grandmother sent the prescription drugs to Bom in Korea who was very busy with her schedule. Bom just knew that the drugs she took continuously in the US were unavailable in Korea and had no clue they were illegal drugs. Since 4 years ago she goes to a hospital in Korea.
Some comments on Nate.com include: "Diesregarding the bull shit sob story of audtion and soccer player dreams...What crazy doctor prescribes 80 pills to his patient, if you had a legitimate prescription why were the drugs sent to a relative to a different person's name"
"Family nor relatives can't receive the drugs for the patient when they're not even there, that doctor needs to be jailed"
So it looks like the doctor was probably some korean-american or friend of the family type of figure allowing those drugs for Bom/Bom's family.
