Okay, I FINALLY saw this movie. Btw, I think from now on I will be going to see these movies right when the DVDs come out or shortly after. The theater I went to in downtown toronto (The Scotia bank theater) was my own private theater. There was absolutely no body in there but me. During the movie I was actually running up and down the stairs with my 3D glasses on like a jackass.

The movie itself was surpringly amazing. I expected the 3D to be cheesy and to distract from the movie itself, but it really enhanced the entire experience for me. I was completely absorbed by the story. I admired the lead character and I ended up wanting to bang that blue alien chick in the end. Three hours just flew by for me and I will definitely go see it again.

The plot was really simple. The bad guys even simpler. But I still loved it.

Dancing with smurfs, watch the south park episode :D

From a sci-fi perspective, this film is horrible. Even the title is wrong, since an avatar is a virtual rapresentation of oneself and that thing is more like a hybrid replicant. Models are recycled from other scifi films or even videogames. The story is a linear good vs evil very similar to dancing with wolves. It has the merit of bringing scifi to the masses, but this works only once, becuase even people not interested in scifi will start asking questions and will find out this film makes no sense by the time avatar 2 comes out.

When I saw this in theater I couldn't stop thinking Pocahontas. Hopefully this doesn't need explanation.

Because Pocahontas story was an eye candy only. Is that how we came to this conclusion? Amusing.

Anyone has the original screenshot of this Pocahontas essay (btw writted solely for this purpose of humiliating Avatar)? I want to play around so I can literally fit any movie into it.

I've gotta disagree with you, if anything this proved how powerful the sci-fi epic genre can be. The film makes perfect sense except for a few tiny mistakes that most people wouldn't even notice unless they read about it.

People like Ganondorf won't be able to name one movie that doesn't have these inconsistencies. It's called attention whoring and it's really popular these days. People don't realize that it's way cooler to not bitch about Avatar because every douchebag has already bitched about it.

Pretty much true, it's always so cool to bitch about something that's hyped and amazing. Fuck the haters. Money speaks louder than worrrrrrds.

When I saw it, I didn't see what is so good about it. Maybe the reviewers saw a handicapped dude controlling a blue dude, OMFG IT'S AWSOME..... and it's 3D? :|

But seriously, the only reason why I watched it was because other people said it was good and it had 3D effects. Disappointment IMO.

And LOL, it really resembles the essay posted above.

I didn't like Avatar really. I appreciate the effort of all the artists who did the CG, but the plot itself was uninspiring and bland.
It is impossible to be a citizen if you don't make an effort to understand the most basic activities of your government. It is very difficult to thrive in an increasingly competitive world if you're a nation of doods.

The story was simple and unoriginal, but that itself doesn't destroy the movie. What did was that the acting sucked, the dialogue was terrible (and maybe contributed to the bad acting, to be fair to the actors), and the plot and characters were poorly developed. Sorry to be a "bitch" and "hater" but this is a thread to discuss the movie and I genuinely did not enjoy it.
