no its not overhyped you just got some sand in your vagina. sweet brah i didn't realize that the actual quality of the movie is reflected in the box office sales Well if you use xbox 360 logic, then yes it does.
If you use real world logic, then no it doesn't.

The movie is good. Someone has to go against it though, usually out of spite or for the sake of nonconformity. Seriously, what story ISN'T predictable? It's how people work.

I was disappointed the moment Terrans begun losing. I mean, they have battlecruiser, wraiths and goliaths with huge knives (LOL) which is cool. Na'vi have bows and arrows >_> and animals that are supposed to be cute, which is not amazing nor Zergish at all. Plus, the Terrans were capitalists. <3 I was cheering up the Terrans, but after they lost in so stupid manner.. It felt so sad and bad. I wanted moral of the story to be that big guns kill big time, but instead we learn that killing with arrows is more cool than with big explosions, which isn't true. I loved how they HURT the tree of life, but after that they just lost, no contest, which is weird. So yes, it is overrated.

Terran micro was god-awful, Marines and Golis got over-run by, what, Drow Rangers and Batriders?!

Maybe the movie just isn't good.

i give cameron the credits for using 3D tech and nice visuals. beyond that the story is just your run-of-the-mill hollywood style under-dog hero comes in, kick ass and gg.
holloywood movies just repeat themselves with the same theme over and over again just with different actors and backdrops each time. i believe their story style is called Elizabethan where the hero always win at the end.

You realize stating "The movie is good" doesn't make it objectively "good," and that a lot of people can legitimately think it's bad?

the movie is so fucking overhyped its ridiculous this is because the movie is not that great at all so they went ape-shit on marketing

To temper the opinions of everyone out here:
The movie was an awesome TECHNICAL achievement. It showed the potential of 3D technology if properly used to help create the sense of immersion a movie experience provides. Conversely, it was just a Titanic in space, without the "hero dies at the ending" part, which given the movie's technical orientation, was quite expected. You rarely if ever see a movie that combines technical breakthroughs with a solid and innovative story or means of story-telling.

I liked the movie but it was just another movie you know.. nothing special really. Have to give credit for the nice landscape and stuff but that dosnt make the movie "WOW INSANE MOVIE"
|
The story I found awful and boring. Not to mention the fact that the movie seemed to long and drawn out. I can understand James Cameron thinks it's art to show the ascension in society. The 3d was kind of nice, but at the same time didn't have any real impact that and I checked often to see if the 3d glasses I was given were doing anything.
If this movie wasn't 3d I'd say it looked like a pixar movie with an overused story.
Also to the person who is claiming people don't like this movie for the sake of non-conformity or spiting the crowd that does. LOL (opinions other than my own are invalid, because they go against general opinion). Guess what at one time it was unpopular to think that the world was round, or that the earth orbits the sun.

Do I really need to pay $10.50 to see james cameron go "lol look wat we cn do wit CG gaiz!!"
No..Not really.

Wow are you so full of yourself that you believe that anyone that differs from your opinion is nonconformist?
Maybe a 3d Pocahontas with spaceships isn't everyone's cup of tea. It certainly wasn't mine.
Maybe the movie wasn't...good for some people?

Sorry to disagree, but the avatar fans have gotten scientists to carefully analyze this film on many different levels, and the results came back and it's impossible for this movie to be perceived as not good.

I've seen a guy talking about this film and explaining how it is made in a successiv chapter of exactly 18 minutes with a last chapter of 36 minutes (18x2 min of BIG BATTLE YEAH!). Each switch to one chapter from another is made by a specific action. Like for exemple the first chapter is the arrival on pandora and there is comic part (well not very funny but -.-) where he got in his avatar for the first time and do sucky things with his new pimp blue body.
That's the cinema of today where everything is controled while the plot and the characters personality is like 0.
