I hear people saying this is an awesome movie or the best movie they've seen, that is just ridiculous in my opinion.

It showed the potential of 3D technology if properly used to help create the sense of immersion a movie experience provides. Conversely, it was just a Titanic in space, without the "hero dies at the ending" part, which given the movie's technical orientation, was quite expected. You rarely if ever see a movie that combines technical breakthroughs with a solid and innovative story or means of story-telling. Just because is CAN be done doesn't mean it SHOULD be done.... Do I really need to pay $10.50 to see james cameron go "lol look wat we cn do wit CG gaiz!!" No..Not really. Then who's going to do it? Until we've actually done such a thing, we wouldn't know how much utility it would have for the film industry. Where would film be if nobody thought that adding sound to The Jazz Singer was a good thing? I view the film as one huge brochure for the different aspects of 3D filming and digital cinematography. I respect that you wouldn't want to pay 10, 11 even 12 dollars to watch a technology demonstration, but many people would.

All in all I give the movie this: Visuals: 10/10 - Amazing visuals all-around, great production values. Audio: 8.5/10 - Audio was solid however some of the balancing of the music/character voices/sound effects seemed a little off for me. Overall good audio, weapon fire is loud and clear, for the most part the sound works well. Story: 6/10 - A fairly interesting take on a story-type that has been told many, many times. A lot of similarities to many different films, but I wouldn't say Cameron out-right copied anyone in particular. Acting 7/10 - The acting was convincing, but definitely not anything note-worthy. I gave a 7 instead of a 5.5 or a 6 simply because there was no poorly acted parts, albeit only a few of the actors performances could be considered truly good. Overall - 7.5/10 - I give it an 7.5/10 because I liked the movie and while I do enjoy seeing great acting from time to time, I'm quite simply not picky enough to spend my viewing time picking out every thing that was wrong with a movie that isn't one of the best 25 movies of all-time, as not all movies can be 'the best'.

However, I'm not going to try and change people's opinions here, if it wasn't your thing that's perfectly fine, but its not necessary to try and convince others of your view by posting something as inane and childish as 'Avatar = Epic Failure'.

I'm not even going to get started on the literature, it's like half of those sci fi writers with a big name just recycle same plot and idea feeding it to millions of people as a work of their own. What bastards. I also feel bad for everyone who didn't realize that whole concept was ripped off from a "Yes" album cover.. ![]() avatarhasthesameplotaseverything.blogspot.com

Anyhoo, the visuals were nice, but it became obvious that the 3-D was a bit overdone if you saw it in IMAX. There are parts (most noticeably when the little dandelion-seed things start falling) where the 3-D obscures the action and detracts from the scene overall. Good effects (which they damn well better be thanks to the enormous budget), good acting (except perhaps from the main character, he was a bit flat for me), but a shitty story and bad pacing makes me really dislike the movie compared to the hype.
