I don't think Net-juu can be isekai because it isn't another world - it's all in this one. Nothing in the game really affects them (except emotionally) and they aren't saving the world or having adventures. It's all just... playing the game. Not even that, really - lots of the in game scenes are what would happen between playing the game while idling back at the hub or the guildhall. I haven't seen any in game combat since the first episode.

Can't watch that isekai video. As a Japanese, horrible pronunciation totally kills me x.x

Isekai is the cancer that is killing anime

As opposed to the last 5 trends that were killing anime.

The Isekai genre is an interesting concept with terrible execution and usually devolves into their own specific anime cliches instead of being truly interesting or well executed. Alternate worlds have a long tradition in literature, but somehow in anime/light novels the gold turns into shit. Why must the main character either be a bland virgin 16 guy/office worker or an overpowered god like existence? Why must he be pandered to by a cliche anime girl or collect a harem? Why do these fantasy worlds have MMORPG levelling system and why is it not explored how a world with such a system must have a radically society different from a medieval world? Why do they have a vaguely Japanese culture? I am sure there are some gems, but mostly they fail deliberately as if churned out by a factory.

most of those stories are written by people who want to become novelists but are absolute amateurs. Once picked up they get a bit polish by editors and that's it.
That's why it's so much self-insert and cliché
|
Isekai anime are almost completely devoid of creativity at this point. How many of these involve some Otaku getting thrown into either an actual MMO, or an MMO-like world, and then said Otaku excels due to his otaku-ness and has all the girls flock to him like any other harem show out there? Of course its not to say they are all like this, and there are some Isekai anime that aren't a flaming piece of shit, but those are exceptions at best. Thanks SAO for ruining anime. Things were better back when K-On and K-On-like-things were the cancer that was killing anime.
|
So does that make mecha the original cancer that was killing anime? All those crappy mecha shows just trying to push toys and merch once Gundam became popular. ;]
|
I would argue that there is a good deal more creativity in Gundam-clones than there are in SAO-clones. It also helps that that era was an era of anime-original titles that actually would conclude their stories and would generally run 25 episodes or longer, instead of being simple LN adaptations that never actually end anything and would run for 12 episodes.

It is. Also sao didn't popularize isekai the way we see it these days. Zero no tsukaima probably did https://tanoshimi.xyz/2016/11/19/isekai-a-world-of-possibilities/amp/
Highly informative blog post on the history of isekai

I would say SAO popularized MMORPG fantasy elements being put into worlds over Isekai itself.

Yea LN adaptations kinda suck because it is very rare to get anywhere near a complete adaptation. Its part of the reason why I use anime now more as a scouting tool to see series whose LNs/Mana flew under my radar (or to just enjoy the animation of some of my favorites).

We need another ZNF to save anime.

Ok, episode 4 of Houseki no Kuni was fantastic. This one got me hooked!

Honestly, I think the character writing in Houseki no Kuni is kinda lacking, but the overall setting is just so unique that it's not that big a deal. Same thing goes for the CG.
Sunred s3 will save anime.

Hey guys, first time posting in this thread.
I'm haven't watched very many animes, but kind of looking for a recommendation. Nice artwork and a good story are very important to me, and some sexuality stuff is nice, for reference which animes I've tried and watched all the way through:
-One punch man (9/10) -Attack on titan (9/10) -Shokugeki no Soma (9.9/10 perfect combination of great story, cute characters, great art style, I enjoy cooking so that helps too) -No game no life (8.5/10) -Parasyte (7.5/10 a little too heavy for my liking, I reserve those emotions for real life shows. Also quite a few plot holes, and the message of the anime wasn't very coherent) -Death note (4/10 too predictable)
Stuff I didn't like after watching 1-2 episodes
-The Irregular at Magic High School (nothing really made it seem different from that typical anime plot, and all the girls there didn't seem intelligent) -Prison school (too perverted for me, like the nudity and sexuality is fine, but comes off as tailored to a guy who hasn't touched a girl before, or maybe to a very submissive guy, not for me) -One Outs (makes baseball appear deeper than it is, this is by far the worst thing I've ever watched)
When I was younger I watched some Dragonball, Inuyasha, Naruto, One Piece, Yugioh, etc. But I'm not interested in anything super long running like that (and maybe it's just because when I watched it, but something more adulty would be good), I'd really prefer an anime that is fully completed.
Sorry for being so picky, if anyone has any advice for what I might enjoy watching, would be nice

good story, nice artwork and "some sexuality is nice"... that's Bakemonogatari right there... right?
That being said I wouldn't actually recommend it to people new to anime so maybe check out ep1+2 of it (which is the first arc of it that starts the series) and see if you can stomach it.
Tbh I don't really see a pattern in things you did like aside from a couple things I'd stay away like the fate series despite it being fairly beginner-friendly and incredibly well animated just because you said you don't like the heavier stuff for anime. Stein's;Gate, another favorite for people who are new to anime would probably get the same treatment as Death Note from you.
So, from the stuff I personally liked I'd probably rec Hataraku Maou-sama simply because everyone likes it, maybe Amagai Brilliant Park because KyoAni eye-goodness + cute girls and maybe Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata to see if you like the art/girls? There's an episode0 to both seasons that are supposed to be watched before ep1, but they're quite on the fanservice side of things with them going to an onsen and all that kind of stuff. So if that's too much for you just leave that out and start with ep1
I'd personally say start with (among the things I mentioned) Bakemonogatari ep1+2 to confirm that it's nothing for you just on the offchance that you might like it and after that Amagai Brilliant Park simply because that feels the most complete? None of those are completed shows but getting anime original series (everything else will usually only get the beginning of it adapted into anime) is fairly rare these days and I certainly wouldn't reciommend you Madoka with what you've written. Maybe Shirobako? It's cute, looks really good but probably something people who watched a bunch of anime would be more likely to appreciate

The sticky at the top is old but still quite relevant. Just pick a genre and go through the plot summaries. It's hard to recommend stuff when there's no general theme. Nobody knows you better than yourself.
Edit: I guess if you're feeling particularly lazy, you could go with the age-old recommendations of Cowboy Bebop, Baccano, and Ghibli movies. They're all common entry points.
