Also I don't really care about Konosuba looking weird, it's largely a comedy and at times the drawings make it even funnier.

Konosuba looks wonky even in still shots. It's as if there's no quality control with the faces. Just inconsistent mess. edit: Flat mess too. It's like they put a flat filter on it. Idk how they suck the life out of the anime so much.

I don't really have any way to record so I made screenshots since that's fairly doable. And I made sure to not cherrypick stuff that looks bad in stillframe but instead only chose stuff that looked wonky overall. The OP in motion would be: ![]() which I don't think makes it look any better At the end of the day I guess this is subjective. It's clearly intentional style at this point, for better or worse. Be it because they want to be consistent with what they've done before or whatever else but when I look on MAL forum people there seem to like it. That should have a heavy bias towards people liking the show since people who don't won't bother posting there but oh well~

Imo they are overdoing it a little, but they probably aren't wrong in doing it, lots of people like to use such weird faces for memes or whatever. Like I said, often it adds to the comedy but at times I wish the characters looked better.

The only reason for such a bad quality of drawing is either not enough time or they have unpaid animators. They're producing 4 new 24min shows this season alone so that might be why the production values are so abysmal.

So for me this season looks like this, from top to bottom: Enjoyed a lot: Demi-chan KonoSuba Maidragon good watch: Urara Meirochou entertaining but I might drop it mid season: Masamune-kun no Revenge Gabriel DropOut Seiren probably in that order. Only thing I haven't checked out yet that I wanted to would be Little Witch Academia.. Idk if the quality is really good or there's just a lot of shows tailored for me but I'm fine with this season so far. And then we still have 3gatsu from last season going on. So for me the only thing I thought I'd enjoy a bit more was Gabriel DropOut. Oh and Akiba's Trip but let's not talk about that.

Minus Rakugo probably because I assume they preproduced it like they did with s1. But yeah, 3 shows are still a lot... And Deen was never known for it's animation. Rather the opposite, everything looked mediocre at best as far as I'm aware. Until they did Rakugo that is. I started watching Tamayura. Reminds me of K-ON! but with photography. Same shallow characters. They even have a girl that whistles instead of being able to talk. Amazing.

How would you tell if characters are shallow or not when you just started anyway? I mean... if you can tell that a character is not shallow right away... wouldn't it make them shallow?

Konosuba ep 1 wasn't the best, but I probably still enjoyed it more than the others. After that either Maid or Demi, dunno. Haven't seen Gabriel or Seiren though, but Gabriel is said to have resemblances with Umaru-chan according to MAL recommendations, so I'll skip that I guess. I don't think gabriel dropout is at all similar to umaru. I absolutely despised umaru and i thought gabriel dropout was fairly entertaining. The only similarity is that the MCs are lazy and enjoy being slobs. But that describes a shit ton of protagonists. After watching urara it probably is closer to being dropped than masamune is, what a meh show.

Maybe it will become more obvious to you when you get further.

While the genre is same for most part, the general tone of the shows is not similar at all. Maybe it will become more obvious to you when you get further. Uh, just checked because you both sounded like there is more to it. Holy fuck that franchise is big. Alright, I take back what I said earlier, sorry.

The OVA is significantly worse, in my opinion and is just a worse version of parts of season one. Edit: Actually might just be better to finish it so you can see the difference for yourself. Yeah, I just finished the OVA and will continue with the TV series now, thanks. On another note, I'm looking for recommendation (directed at everyone) with these specifics: - It should be an adventure, preferably about hiking (the only thing I found was Yama no Susume which is probably not what I'm looking for - Can be just wandering/traveling around in the wilderness as well - Focus should be on the atmosphere of the areas and world, great examples here are Mushishi as well as the traveling episodes of Ergo Proxy I don't care which genre or how old it is. If anything jumps to your mind just name it. ![]()
