I read this like 3 times and I still have no fucking idea what ur saying. besides that, I like Snake too. tl;dr: They made it look like her grandma died when really all it was is that she's not going to the nationals (if nothing changes) which isn't all that much of a sad thing (at least not THAT sad) if she can't even get up and talk to her teacher about it in privacy because she's not willing to talk to her bandmembers as she's just a little kid after all. (MC or Mio doing just that could very well happen next episode, idk)
Either that or the director has information that we don't have yet making him think he needs to pile up the drama because of that information when it just makes no sense without that knowledge yet, which I consider to be really, really bad writing. Like the joke about her having cancer and needing to win to get treatment for whatever reason.

For some reason you seem to be able to know what is sad and what is important for that girl? If getting to the nationals and music is her world and that gets denied I can see why she gets sad. Like, you seem to think that girls that age can act like complete ''rational'' beings.

I'm currently watching Highschool DxD 1st season when a thought occurred to me. How do any of you watch the current airing season? Broadcast version must be awful.

The streams of BorN I've been watching this season have all been uncensored. Otherwise if they were whited out, I'd just wait for the BD tbh.

Okay, let's ignore phrase 1 and 3 because for the fourth time, that's not what I'm getting at: yes and that's exactly the problem and why it's bad writing / directing in this case. Because it is most likely just that tmi setting where the cart is in front of the horse and it would have been better to leave that out for later.
In fact, we already know from ep1 that that's indeed the case. MC was outright bewildered about how much the nationals/music meant to her. And that's perfectly fine. But it's not fine to portray it that heavily at this point in time

Okay final words from me on that matter, let's put it real easy:
1) If I tell you my mom died, you'd (hopefully) feel sad for me and have compassion. Because it's really easy to get in my shoes for you because you are aware of how awful that situation would be. 2) If I tell you my favorite anime char died it might not feel that sad to you but if you get the idea that it means A LOT to me you will still understand it at least and feel sad. 3) If I tell some random person on the street who never watched anime who doesn't even know what that is my fav anime char died he'll understand it even less and will understand the least about why I'm sad out of those 3 scenarios (until he sees me crying or something a bit more subtle than that)
If it really means that much to her (and it obviously does), the impact would have been a crapton better with a slightly more fullish picture for us instead of putting this first without knowing anything about her or anything about why she cares so much about it. This way we'll most likely go back to ep3 at some point and be like "aaaw, so that's why she was breaking down that time" but it's not as impactful as the punch in the belly you get from being too stupid to realize it earlier and only seeing it once it actually happens. Instead we're being told "you can feel sad now"

high school national competitions are a big deal to a lot of people
as someone who went to national competitions like every year in high school and watched people get super upset and depressed over not being able to go, I totally can understand where Reina is coming from
mfw you think this is drama out of nowhere when it was the first thing you saw in episode 1. lulz
nationals is a big fucking deal to young people. you see it as a common trope all the time in anime from your sports anime to your card game anime to all sorts of anime that have some sort of competition as the focus

Funi uses the censored version though, but most subbers use the uncensored.

I don't think anyone in her really gets what I'm annoyed by when everyone just cherrypicks the things I mention that are fine and pretends like I'm having an issue with that... it's not about the result but about the way you're getting to that result.
I mean ZNF just, for the fifth time, repeated what I already mentioned and that I don't have a problem with (her being upset and sad about not going to nationals) and said that's what I'm having a problem with, when that's not the case at all... I literally just said myself that you even knew that's a thing because of episode1 myself a couple posts above...

maybe you should read between the lines as opposed to hoping that the story spoonfeeds you precisely the information you want to know? if you think that the story is deliberately saying "okay feel sad" or whatever that's....not accurate at all?
a girl screams at her concert band for being a group of sloths and idiots. how is that not a sufficient explanation for why she's so upset? lmao
