Heh, yeah. I can't decide whether I would rate it with 9 or 10. I really rarely rate something with 10 but I kinda feel the show deserves it.

No. Would have been a good idea though. Used my shirt a lot instead...
Watched the rest of it now. I'm a little confused about the ending.
+ Show Spoiler +Nagisa surviving was just another route in the VN I guess? Or was it a dream, an imagination how it could have worked out. But Ushio really survived? I personally took it this way: When Ushio died the whole thing was translocated into a different parallel world in which both Nagisa and Ushio didn't die but both stories happened and Tomoya still has memories from the other world. Did I miss something?

+ Show Spoiler + The girl in the "other world" is Ushio and the robot is Tomoya. Basically right as Ushio died Tomoya had the option of not going on the path that leads to him and Nagisa meeting and falling in love but he chooses it anyway. The magic/good stuff that was accumulated throughout the series is then used to go back to the time of Ushio's birth but instead Nagisa survives instead of dying.so it all turns out alright in the end. I suppose this is the way they tried to show the "true end" of the VN which you only get if you collect all of the orbs of light in the VN. In the end the accumulated light allows for Ushio to recreate the world to one where her mother survived and she isn't afflicted with that illness so her family lives happily ever after. I dunno if I explained it clearly but that is what I gathered from the ending + looking up some stuff about it.

Rate it a 10 because it has the most feels of all the feels that have ever been felt. + Show Spoiler +What slaughter said. He chose the good choice. Because a few times throughout the series he had said he hated the city, and once he said he wished he'd never met her (when he was at his worst). But when faced with the decision, of course he wished he'd met her and he'd risk it all again. What a champ.

Hope the prequel LN gets translated. + Show Spoiler + The ending is by far the most controversial part of the show. there are also many different speculations that try to make sense of it
I think these are the three most popular ways to look at the ending at the moment since the staff are obviously not helping here
1) Yuuna became a sort-of divine figure theory: This speculation is based on the Shinto religion where heroes can become gods and when Yunna touched the vertex core without her magical armor. In that moment, she communicated with shinju and asked that shinju return the offerings to the other heroes and to change the mankai system while she would eternally be stuck as a yuusha defending Shinju and this is speculated based on the fact that after The Sun exploded and they laid in a flower formation, Yuuna's fairy did not appear on top of her and Yunna was not covered with petals unlike her friends which suggest that she can still go yuusha. This theory would also explain why she was in a coma (because the wall needed to be rebuilt and yuuna would need to defend it until so), why she could hear Togo(who is a miko as stated in the prequel LN) and how she heard everyone else (pressed flowers) and why Yuuna was hurt when fuu squeezed her shoulder just a little (a scene that was replicated in episode 2 after defeating the first vertex) and how the story(to the hero of tomorrow) that Togo read to Yuuna at the end connect to them as people. Also, this theory further speculates that when Yuuna fainted during the play, it was because there was a Forethize warning.
2) Misunderstanding theory: In episode 7, there was a seemingly throwaway line when they were eating dinner that went along the lines of "offerings can be eaten after they have been out for a while right?". This speculation goes with the idea that the characters, including sonoko, had the wrong ideas about the system to begin with. That the offerings are permanent until the shinju arbitrary decides to return them. This speculation is based on the fact that Sonoko and Togo nearly destroyed Shinju and wiped out humanity and that it made evaluations to the Yuusha systems to prevent such things from happening in the future because the mindset that Fuu, Sonoko, Togo, and Karin had were all destructive. Another thing to note is that they drove back the vertexes so the heroes wouldnt be needed for a while so it would only make sense to discharge them. The faint in the play was a troll. This is the more optimistic and happy resolution for the characters as opposed to theory 1. "shinju-sama is a god, it isn't that straightforward" - sonoko
3) Deus ex / asspull theory: uhhhh Yea, you can guess from the name. This is the completely happy ending at the cost of unintelligent writing.
Do note that none of these endings resolve the fact that the world around is all fire. This is a character driven show and not a plot-driven one so the character resolutions are more important. Also, gods don't have infinite energy in this story.
And this show has apparently been in planning / production for two years
Edit: oops, I left one theory out. 4) shinju is an asshole that loves torturing little girls. This one is a bit funny if you think Shinjuu didn't need to take offerings to begin with.
Prequel LN is already translated and I can upload it for you if you want. I'm personally a fan of theory 1 since it makes the most sense to me and would be the best to write a sequel out of. Of course, in the end it is all speculation so far and I've seen my fair share of angry people at the ending, happy people because everything is daijoubu, and people who are confused as fuck.
I'm partial to believing it's not just any one of these reasons but a mixture of all 4. + Show Spoiler +especially the first one. The first on explains a ton, but then you can add in some from the 2nd one with them never really understanding the system, and the shinju after Yuki "becomes a god" (from the first explanation) THEN decides to arbitrarily return their sacrifices. Either way, there's definitely a large amount of Deus ex Machina throughout this series but particularly in the ending.
The ancient greeks truly left us many many brilliant things in drama and literature.....but the one thing that they really fucked up on was Deus ex Machina...it just always feels like the laziest, easiest answer to any problems....and any writer should feel appalled to use it.

Sounds more like a problem with FZ to me. Watching FZ first means you unfortunately watched them in the wrong order. Yeah, but does it matter at all? I re-watched 2006 FSN after FZ, everything was pretty clear. And after watching FZ, it doesn't matter if I watch 2006 FSN or UBW, because both are just alternative routes after the FZ. The only thing I wish I haven't watched is UBW movie, that was... pretty awful. It doesn't matter as much with UBW, but there are minor things in there. Like for example, saying Saber didn't develop after FZ is kind of backwards, since FZ wasn't even written when FSN came out, so there was no need to have her already developed when FSN started. When I was talking about Saber's character being developed, I was talking about UBW, which obviously was made after FZ. UBW (the anime) is based on a route of the visual novel Fate/stay night from 2004 ( https://vndb.org/v11). Of course but my point is that it was made after FZ(anime) and if it is made by the same guys(ufotable), Saber should have some resemblance in her character from previous anime(FZ) and she doesn't have it, at least for now. All I am saying that UBW series is continuation from FZ series, and Saber from FZ feels like a completely different character than the one from UBW that we are seeing now. Saber is subtly different in FSN after her experiences in F/Z but she is still the same at her core. She gets even more development in the Fate route which she is the focus and the things from F/Z are explored even more. She is a half supporting character in the UBW route. Besides the source material for this was written before F/Z and they are sticking to the source. If anything it shows some of the weakness in F/Z (as a prequel) from a continuity standpoint but its relatively decent from that perspective anyway. If you really want to have your mind blown about character continuity you should read Fate/HA which is just a fan disc and everyone acts very out of character at times. Yeah, I got that. I am not really that happy about it but it is ok I guess since they aren't acting like a completely different people.
I heard about F/HA, don't remember what I've read about it but it is definitely something. Oh, by the way, I've read a little bit more detailed summary of Heaven's Feel route + Show Spoiler +and now that I've read that, I don't want them to make the anime. The whole anime for me is about Shirou and Saber, and Saber in general. I am ok in UBW that she isn't the main character but still gets a lot of showing. What I've read here sounds completely different from other routes(I mean they are all different, but Fate and UBW have some resemblances even though they follow different characters or so to say) and I really dislike Saber being "a bad guy" and dying in the end.

Throughout the series? I thought the only point in contention was the ending... That is what most people believed. I just think that the story set the bar for itself so high with it's excellent episodes for 5-11 that when it came down to the ending, it would displease some audiences no matter which way it went
Also, the director said in an interview that everything in this show was carefully made and everything has a meaning. He must be pretty happy getting all these speculations.

Thanks (also BigFan and Testie)!
+ Show Spoiler +I got the part with Tomoya being the robot and Ushio being the girl. But I was confused about the part where Tomoya remembered everything that happened and told it Ushio. So there isn't a parallel world where Ushio and Nagisao both died but a parallel world/parallel worlds where feelings of the city gather which can grand wishes depending on how "good" and "accumulated" they are? I also didn't get that it was his decision to meet her again that prompted the alternative ending. Cleverly done but a bit confusing. But it makes sense with the VN in mind, adapting this in an anime must have been hard. It's really important for me that I understood that he had to make the decision whether he would even meet Nagisa and did it again despite everything that happened and cursing himself for meeting her multiple times. wow. If Ushio and Nagisa aren't afflicted with that illness how do they explain that she repeated grades multiple times?

Sorry, spoilered now+ Show Spoiler +I feel like I'm the only person I know who really hated AfterStory's ending. I almost completely ruined it for me. They were going for such an amazing ending, with him realizing that he has to live on, for himself and for them too. He can't get rid of the past, and the people he loves don't want to have it become a burden for him. AND THEN FUCK THAT SHIT, AMIRITE!

+ Show Spoiler +Well, I probably would have prefered an ending where Ushio survived and Nagisa would have stayed dead. Would have been enough of a miracle. An ending where both would have stayed death would have been good as well but probably would have killed my heart completly. This being said, I kind of like this ending as well. Although it is a miracle happy ending, it involved some pretty big decision making that marks ones life.

1. Spoiler that shit Darkchill 2. + Show Spoiler +He made that decision regardless by choosing to be with her again anyway. For all he knew it would have happened to him again. But he said fuck it, Nagisa & Ushio worth it. That's why it wasn't ruined imo.
Unrelated, Bahamut ending was solid and pulled off better than I expected considering the number of episodes.
