a bit bloody but hey, he finally got his first mission kill! Training with Mine should be a blast, pun intended lol. Wonder what other targets they have in mind and how they will go about killing them.

we are going total holywood style right from starting scene till credits. background music is uninspiring, realism is non-existant, trope based on terrorists attending the same school was ridiculed to hell even before Code Geass become mainstream. OP is overriden with the explosion of visual effects while the song itself is bland, ED is okay, moody and stylish, but prolonged for good 40 seconds.

Lisa's seiyu is a novice, generic old detective protag is boring, civilan deaths miraculously aren't planned to happen at all, background art renderings are of medium quality, same with scenery planning, animation itself is decent. The bright spot is that the ride is going to be plot and emotionally driven and I dig Lisa's character a little, so in my eyes show still have unrealised potential and should finish on a higher note than Higashi no Eden, for example.

After the splendid job Shiki's author had done with showcasing the nature of vampires and several Western sci-fi stories about social institutions of flesh eating monsters who are forced to coexist with humans, I find the world setting of the show messy and having shady fundamentals. We are only two episodes in, and story already degradated to simple shonen with glossy over-the-top style showcasing pure magic abilites, unreal ammount of blood, cliche dialogues and forced plot joints, and, judging by the things, guro and lolgrimdark would be the only sellpoints of the show.

Well, theoretically it's not THAT bad, and the story about half human, half ghoul protag could be good, and touching sometimes, but god the direction or/and pacing continue to be horrid. Dudes, I give exactly zero fucks about MC's human life, his dull caring damsell-in-distress friend, or that wacky ghoul hunters(?) who appeared at the end and spewd some typical cryptic crazy shit, you better tell me how you can make such a bloodbath at a parking lot and get out of there like unusual nothing happened at all, or try explain that coffee and/or red eyes shtick or origin of ghouls, before notoriously trying bring viewer to sympathise with some of them.

But you know what pisses me the most? OP and ED. The visual scenes for the first mentioned sequence are lazy, static in-motion, with no interesting action or characters reveal or scenery view in sight, with same mild pastel colors as Aldnoah.Zero's OP, which totally ruin the song, considering it's no groundbreaking hit either, but the the ending is even worse in a way. It's so fucking cheap I can't believe that was made in 2014 for a major TV broadcast. It's not just static pictures scrolling, it's bloody manga illustration art slideshow with zero effort put toward it's presentation, 5 mediocre pictures being repeatedly shown by parts for 90 seconds on a paint black background. You won't find a 70s show which dared to go for such an atrocity, most direct-to-video productions at least show previously animated scenes rolling alongside the credits, heck even amateur or student-made project do the proper endings, jeeeesus. It doesn't affect my rating that much, but it surely affects my attitude towards the creators.

Bearable so far 6/10

Forget about uncareful and unpurposeful Moon plothole entirely, this show has much bigger problems, as if anything I've mentioned first time wasn't enough. First of all, by the look of things, 4 episodes are being unwaranted wasted for an opening arc where MC gets his mech and fights back his first enemy, which is usually done in one or two steps for other series. well, we could live with that if the hype had been being built slowly and steadily, but dissappointing music (the only decent tune gets old after being used at exact same timing as in first episode), rough character designs (Martians are downright ugly, what an irony), and, most important of all, shitty bland action, which is, by the way supposed to be the glorious last stand of Earth's defenders eventually make me really poisonous.

I get as much as with the new studio at the helm I can't expect ufotable's kind of quality control, but I haven't seen a city warfare as disappointing as this one for ages. Why the flying fuck your backgrounds look unpolished, why robots act like they are power-suits from halo, why scene direction totally copies fate/zero s2, where's blood and explosions and sound effects, where's regular army heavy corps, for god's sake, how come everybody is evacuating safely when one of 39 given castles can turn one big megapolis area into the nuclear dust.

You got the exact worst kind of villains in your show and the worst kind of explanation of their magic hax powers, you made female characters act feel like retards or first-class sluts (hi martian princess, it fucking disgusts me you look like K-ON face bubble, when you're based on a strong and loveful Relena pacifist character) even by anime standarts, you got subpar voice acting for most school students and didn't I mention the plot is stupid as hell?! People outrunning war machines which aren't equiped with some kind of shooting rifle, but an AT field that can eat matter alive for no reason, radio jamming being exclusive to Martians master race, protag who still thinks they can win Catarphacts (every Maritan name is anti-weaboo kind of bad) with a basic weapons (he is supposed to be calm and calculating, aren't he?), ass-pull lasers and plot-twists (she had a double, what a convenient way to live), lamest way possible of introducing new characters and killing some unknown ones.

Honestly, I rarely drop mecha shows, and when I do it's because they are either tedious, cheap or made by Bones, but this one looks really unsalvagable at this point. I get really strong feeling as soon as princess finally comes to highlight, it becomes even more rage inducing, so I better retreat from this pointless battlefield right now.

My post here isn't going to try and convincing you to watch it lol but I figured I might as well respond to what you wrote seeing as you put in a great deal of effort Nothing wrong with having MC get his mech in 3 episodes compared to the typical 1. I'd prefer they set the stage and showed the struggle like they did than MC finds some mech early on and start kicking ass right away. Music seems ok to me, nothing special but not necessarily a bad thing. Bland action? Well, idea is that the Martian's mechs are beastly and Earth was overconfident when they said they were 'prepared'. They are building up hype by showing us that all of the Martian mechs are badass and OP as hell.

Didn't notice anything specific about backgrounds, never played halo and never watched fate/zero s2. Yes, the whole evacuation part does seem a bit odd when you think about it considering there are 39 castles however it's all over the world and they hit major cities so having people evacuate from the major area further away from a castle (39 is not enough for the whole earth when you consider # of countries and size) is the best idea to do in that situation. The castles have a limited area as we have seen so I'm pretty sure that unless they relocate, once they have landed, everyone in that area dies but outside of it, you can still escape if the mech from the castle doesn't track you down.

Villians seem typical to me. Only care about themselves etc... I think you're being very nit picky about this lol. I mean, you're complaining why the mech doesn't have a rifle. Maybe it's made for hand to hand combat. The AT field repels any shots allowing it to close in to deliver the final blow. Maybe it's due to my lack of mech anime but I think just because something is mech doesn't mean it should automatically get a rifle. btw, if this no rifle thing is annoyng, I don't recommend you watch Argenvollen because most of the fights so far have had the main MC mech fight hand to hand combat lol. Well, protag only has basic weapons at his disposal and protecting civilians is their main duty. He can't just run away. Maybe there is a way around that AT field, I dunno but at that point in time, it was determined that there best chance is to just fight and try to protect as much as possible. Lasers? you mean from that mech? what's wrong with a mech having a laser? lol. As for plot twist, she's never been on earth so it's quite possible that she couldn't adjust to the atmosphere so her falling sick and having a double take her place doesn't seem out there to me.

Compared to the first episode which I felt was a bit lacking, I think this second episode has made the anime seem much better in my eyes. We've seen the struggle and what Earth is up against which begs more questions of how they will defeat them etc... At this point, I'm more excited to watch this than Argevollen lol.
