I was watching Gai Rei Zero. I've been watching things extremely slow. I just watched the first EP of Knights of Sidonia. The wife really liked the first episode, but I don't know how I felt about it.

Spent some time earlier thinking about my first experiences with watching anime (not counting mainstream stuff from the 90s that I watched as a kid) and thought it would be fun to share.
Many years ago, when it was still common to burn files onto CDs, I was alone at home and had to burn random video/music files for my sister. My computer was crap so I couldn't play Warcraft 3 at the same time. I eventually decided I was bored enough to watch whatever show I was supposed to be burning for my sister to kill time.
The show was Full Moon wo Sagashite. I watched the first episode and remember thinking it was alright. The premise of the show and its animation style seemed to fit in with my then perceptions of the stereotypical shoujo show that the younger me lumped together with Sailor Moon, Card-captors,etc. Nothing too groundbreaking. I didn't really want to watch the second episode, so instead I decided to settle on watching the last episode for closure.
Even though I had skipped 50+ episodes, it was surprisingly easy to put the pieces together and the final episode ended up being quite enjoyable and refreshing. I ended up watching some more episodes in reverse chronological order, the most memorable scene being the one where the main character + Show Spoiler +contemplates committing suicide on the hospital rooftop (stopped somewhere after that because I didn't see any reason to continue) .
It was a pretty fun ride and I'll admit some tears were shed too, and somewhere along the way I became more open to watching anime. I never did end up telling my sister (or anyone I knew in person) that I had watched it though, despite wanting to know if she enjoyed it as well.

My greatest anime experience when I was young was when I was a small kid and I went to America for 3 weeks
and I watched Gundam Wing on TV there, shit was glorious and forever solidified me as a fan of all things Gundam.

I'm quite late to the party but I am still upset at anime-only people who will never realise that Kotomi is the best girl.
|
I like the Misae ending but she's not even in the poll.

Don't really remember my first anime experience though Taiyou no Ko Esteban, Future Boy Conan and Andes Shounen Pepero no Bouken were three anime that I watched as a kid and I remember loving them a lot. Gundam Wing came 6-7 years later and I also enjoyed it immensely.

I remember when Gundam Wing first aired on TV. I came home from elementary school just in time to watch the new episode of DBZ with my brother (I remember being excited because it was when Goku was gonna finally fight Frieza or w/e). The show finally starts up and a few seconds in I realized that there was not going to be an epic showdown, instead it was replaced with a one hour special of the first and second episodes of Gundam Wing. Yeah, I was kinda pissed, even more so when the masked man wouldn't stop talking, but those sound effects and the songs that went with the fights were just so catchy.

I only watched the anime and I already knew that Kotomi is best girl.

My first anime experience was when i was like 6 or 7. My older brother was going to our neighbors to hang with his friend and being the little brother I was, I tagged along. They watched Devilman (i believe is what it was called). Looking it up I don't remember anything about it really, or if it was a movie or OVA or anime episodes...all i really remember was massive pools of blood, and at one point a guy waving around another guys head on a pike. Later I got into DBZ like most everybody else, when it was first airing in the US. I remember when Gundam Wing first aired also (i believe that's the one i watched a few episodes of and was like "im done") that i mentioned earlier.
Another really fun memory was when I was 12 we went to Cancun, and I wasn't really able to go out and party at the nightclubs then, so I spent the evenings inside watching Mexican tv. Watched like the whole Trunks arc in Spanish, even thought I couldn't understand a word.

Understandable if Gundam Wing was the one that you didn't like. That show is pretty bad when not looked at through the eyes of a 12 year old.
All the young kids here who had stuff like DBZ and Gundam Wing as their first animes... I remember running home from the bus to try and catch episodes of Robotech. I remember a friend had his birthday party on the day the last episode was going to air, but they wouldn't let me watch it at the party. Good thing my parents taped it for me, though. Ahhh, the good ol' days of VHS recording.

Does everyone use their same name in Rizon that they do in TL? I don't recognize several peoples names.
|
Mostly same, some almost never posts, very few different ones.
|
Spazer has like 5 different names he gets on, Southlight has like 2 or 3 names he cycles through, Echo has like 3 different names, and I think everyone else just uses their TL name (or has their TL name in their name) or doesn't post.

Just three nowadays, and one is pretty rare.

Haha Toad! Maybe you will join me and Bigfan as the only two people who liked Sakurasou.
My 1st anime experience came from the Sci Fi channel when they would sometimes air Sci Fi anime movies. I was in 5th grade and the movie was Gall Force. I thought that shit was so cool because of how the enemies were life forms that were mechanical and organic + it gave and origin story for humanity. Went out and rented the other movies in the series. Notice now how I rank them all pretty low lol.

Last time I visited irc, Toad slapped me with a wet trout when I haven't done anything just yet. I believe a slap for Toad is in order for retaliatory purposes. Ryu, please do the honors lol.
