The pinnacle of sekai seifuku was the smoking ep. And then for whatever reason they decided they needed a moderately serious plot, and things went downhill from there. As far as I'm concerned, the entire latter half of the show was wasted potential.
The flashbacks with Goro are a prime example of this. At first it appeared to be a parody of those hard boiled yakuza flicks, but then they kept doing it over and over and over again. So is it supposed to be a joke or not? This also applies to the entire plot. Am I supposed to feel sad or angry when I see them get beat into the ground? Because the jokes sure as hell aren't contributing to a serious atmosphere.

Steins;Gate - Time travel story. Pacing at the end kinda blew, but the story's solid. The sequel movie is tacked on and sucks. Pretty popular show.
Space Bros - Great show about a guy and his brother becoming astronauts. It's 99 episodes though. Drama/slice of life/comedy I guess.
Yamato 2199 - Remake of the ancient Space Battleship Yamato. It's got insane production quality and damn good directing. Space opera.
Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita - Good comedy/parody. Episodes vary in quality.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Based on the classic manga. If you know what it is, give it a try. I'd be somewhat hesitant to recommend it to someone who doesn't know what they're getting into.
Silver Spoon - Great story, great comedy, great drama. About a city boy going to an agriculture school. Vaguely educational sometimes. Can be somewhat sobering. Two seasons.
Uchouten Kazoku - Excellent drama and a pretty great world overall.
Kyousogiga - Unique style. General craziness. Pretty unique world. Ending kinda blew. Also a Rie character that isn't tsundere for once. Your mileage may vary.
Non Non Biyori - Pretty decent comedy/slice of life.
Usagi Drop - Pretty good slice of life about a guy who takes in an orphaned . Fairly lighthearted/heartwarming. Avoided the questionable manga timeskip too.
Daily Lives of Highschool Boys - A serious contender for best comedy ever.
Carnival Phantasm - Only if you're a Type-Moon fan. Requires knowledge of all Type-Moon series because everything's an in-joke.
If you watched 08th MS Team, this came out. There was a new Natsume season in 2011 if you watched watched/liked the prior ones. Also there's a new Mushishi season coming up soon if you watched the first.

what? So, if I'm understanding this right, if I reach a conclusion about who I think is the best girl, you get cancer? I guess you must've gotten cancer everytime the monogatari best girl discussion comes up :S Either way, please stop equating a life-threatening condition with someone's opinion of some characters in an anime and please stop changing my original post. Look most of the "best girl" monogatari talk is grounded in bs, everyone except a few people who actually pay attention to the show just either like the chara archetype or the chara just strikes their kawaii sensors the right way and then they move on from there too elaborate why they like it so much as some form of justification. Thats why you get this bs short-hand of "crab" "cat" and "snail" which is frankly a joke.
I dont see why you need to force yourself to watch it and you definitely dont need to force yourself to have an opinion if you dont intend to finish it either. Its ok to not have an opinion.

I don't think it's appropriate to joke around when it comes to things like cancer but that's my opinion on it. If he wants to do so, I'm not going to stop him from doing so but thought it's worth a mention. Also, who said I'm being forced to watch monogatari? Because I said I'll eventually get to it? It's been on my to watch list for quite a bit of time now so I can assure you that I'm not being forced to watch it due to the comments on here. I'll be watching it out of interest not TLADT pressure. Once I finish watching it then I'll form my opinion on it like I've done with everything else I've watched.

KLK turned out to be okay. It was kind of fun, and also not really.
Sekai Seifuku, pls, no, why, mercy (that was basically my opinion about the show post episode 3)
The Engaged to the Unidentified Show was really...eh. Not a big fan (harhar). The older sister was pretty neat, but I honestly think her antics got really predictable and repetitive, especially since most of her lines were basically drooling over some kind of sexualized fantasies of her two younger peers. Wasn't that funny after the 10th time I guess. Mashiro also was kind of eh. Hit or miss at times.
D-Frag was whatever also. Sometimes it was funny, other times I just cringed.
Chuunibyou S2 I went full cringe for 12 episodes. Better than S1 actually. I liked the humor a bit more, but it still wasn't all that great towards the end.

No one explains anything during best girl discussion because the whole thing is a joke. Its almost like a running gag bit that gets thrown out every so often.
