Just some of the encodes are like that, I think, ones running flac for music like. You see gundam ripped at 1080p, aac in mp4, multiple audio tracks and it is still just 1.something gig.
As for me, I just sucked it up and paid for my blu-ray versions. Now to continue through more Bungaku Shoujo and fight the temptation to import all the books this very moment.
japanese rules are the best
with regular chinese rules people just pung and chi their way into a lame ass chicken hand
with japanese rules if they do that shit all you have to do is watch for the tanyao/yakuhai and smack em with a suanko
Riichi is the best mahjong ruleset in my opinion. I think in the future we'll see this become generally accepted on the tournament scene.
That might just be wishful thinking, though.
That wouldn't work without everyone adapting a Japanese scoring system though, working riichi into the Chinese counting system would suck imo =/
The scoring system is part of the rules, right? I don't think separating the two makes much sense. 0_0

The tournament rules use a modified set of Chinese rules iirc?
The Japanese rules seem so much more exciting than the Chinese rules, but the only source I have for this are 3 episodes of The Legend of Koizumi and Akagi + watching my grandma play mahjong with her old friends in Beijing.

Depending on the tournament. Chinese rules are the most popular right now, but what I'm saying is hopefully riichi will become standard in the future.

Ok seriously, you guys using japanese words in a chinese game im just like.. wat
Gai wu, ping wu, deidei wu, wun yt sik, chin yet sik are like, the basis wins for me
My preferred is a point scoring system (and not the single payout i.e 10/20 system they mostly play in HK) with additional point score rules and a point minimum

It was a once off special spin-off from the manga, so possibly not. The manga on the other hand has 3 volumes and (in my opinion) is considerably more awesome. The manga follows a different story.

pfff
chinese rules is basically "oh watch me chi my way into a pinfu" i.e. fucking lame
that prevents the nicer, prettier hands, like ryanpeikou, daisangen, suanko, luise, sanshokusanshou, ippaniko, etc.
otherwise people just gonna pinfu their way to victory, booooo
by the way if anybody wants to play gimme a pm and i'll see if i can pull a group together
I don't know what any of those hands are, but when I play/see people play, the ultimate goal is definitely the good, patterned hands.
edit: But fuck this Legend of Koizumi thing is amazing ROFL. Are episodes released regularly?
absolutely no idea
and while that's the goal, most people just chi their way to victory. BORING.
I think on the competitive scene you see a fair amount of nicer hands, though nothing like the Japanese rules to encourage people to pull big gambits of that kind.

Just get everyone to start typing in Chinese, what are you people referring to Japanese and Chinese terms in romanized versions huh? Huh?
Not like the mechanics are any different, and no one is referring to weird hands like kokushi. Just get everyone to type in the original language if you really don't get it.
As an anime thread derail into Mahjong...just as well I guess.
EDIT - and something for testie, looks like onemanga randomly got Hayate up to date, almost.

It's not just a chinese game. There's the American version of the game, different rules played in Great Britain, different rules played in Singapore, and the Hong Kong version is different from the standard chinese rules, and those are only the examples that I can get off the top of my head.
Since we were talking about the Japanese variant, we're also using the words that go along with that.
Akagi was so awesome even tho i havent played mahjong and i dont even know the basic rules of it. Legend of koizumi is just a hilarious anime that i watch for the laughs.
Watched Grave of the fireflies yesterday and damn i felt so depresed after it... now watching Eve no jikan and its really good to watch such a refreshing anime after that sad movie....

You watch anime with other men? Damn.
It is Miyazaki, you can watch it with your parents and have them in tears.
I used to watch Miyazaki stuff with my grandmother, though I avoided Grave of the Fireflies back then.
