If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

I caught up a little late on Lagann Hen but after I watched it, the other animes I watch felt like they're no good already...

It seems that "The Legend of Koizumi" is an anime about mahjong. Can anyone compare it with "Saki". I can't decide which anime to watch.

The Legend of Koizumi isn't much of a time committment, the manga is only 20 issues long and the anime is 7-9 minutes apiece.

They're totally different lol.

Saki = Mahjong + Moe
Koizumi = Mahjong + nationalism, gar, and ugly animation

Lol I was grabbing Bakemonogatari for archiving when I realized how ridiculously huge the files were. ~1 gigabyte per episode. Dear god.

Nah, I've only played one of the chinese variants, so I'm not entirely clear on the special rules in the Japanese variant. Mahjong's just waaaay too time consuming as well. If I had other distractions besides watching anime and browsing TL, I'd never get anything done.

Anyway, I just finished the first episode of Saki, and it seems like it's right up my alley.

1GB per episode? You sure those aren't the Blu-ray versions?

Yeah, those are the Blu-ray versions. I'm just surprised that the Blu-ray versions are so big. I don't think I've gotten a Blu-ray version since... well since 5 cm/s

Caller, Japanese rules? Chinese rules or international ones are more interesting imo!

Just some of the encodes are like that, I think, ones running flac for music like. You see gundam ripped at 1080p, aac in mp4, multiple audio tracks and it is still just 1.something gig.

As for me, I just sucked it up and paid for my blu-ray versions. Now to continue through more Bungaku Shoujo and fight the temptation to import all the books this very moment.

Parsed the file, and it was a AVC1 codec for video and AC3 for sound. Obviously it's the video that's causing the large file size though :p

And I stopped watching Railgun for today. There's only so much mindless entertainment and sheer stupidity that I can handle in one day ;/

Watching Kare Kano at the moment. Only on Ep 8, but it just makes me wonder why more romance animes aren't like it. The animation/art is subpar, but I can't help but love the characters so far oo;

So far it's definitely a level up from stuff like Clannad/Toradora

Heh yeah, while it is entertaining to see huge files like that and have 2tb drives around to hold them, it still makes relatively little sense to me

Haha, been a while since I played, though the Japanese rules always felt a bit too random for me, especially how it heavily slants toward east wind. Which is why I rather enjoy seeing mahjong anime/manga for team based games, feels much more strategic in general.

Supercell is awesome, if for nothing else, I thank Nico Nico and Miku from the bottom of my heart for leading to Supercell.

Different products, Toradora...well, I'll refrain on commenting on that. Clannad and Key's games tend toward using romance as a delivery vehicle more than anything else.

It really depends on the show for me... for something like 5cm/sec, I want the highest resolution possible. For something like Saikano, I don't really care.

Yeah, which is why I'd buy blu-ray version of rakkyo if they ever release those, luckily bakemonogatari just starts with bluray and I won't have to spend twice.

They need to get their shit together and animate Zaregoto/Ningen series already. It is even the work that was designed to be animated and it isn't seeing animation. When can I get my Kunagisa, Aikawa Jun and Hagihara Shiogi voiced

Riichi is the best mahjong ruleset in my opinion. I think in the future we'll see this become generally accepted on the tournament scene.

That might just be wishful thinking, though.

That wouldn't work without everyone adapting a Japanese scoring system though, working riichi into the Chinese counting system would suck imo =/
