Boukurano, Trigun, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Gungrave, and Death Note are all philosophical to me. I guess we just have different opinions.

This is something that people need to understand about words, having a PHILOSOPHY makes something PHILOSOPHICAL, and in the direct definiton of the word every anime is philosophical because it has some kind of philosophy or message behind it.
also majory awesome irony if I actually don't understand philosophical but hey that's what I'm here for,
to be wrong.

Which is why I was asking what he found philosophical about it ? I really do want to know. Im not just being a dick, we have plenty of people who take care of that. That having been said I dont think those are philosophical shows at all either.
Also thats not really what philosophical really is in the normative sense with respect to anime or genre if my understanding is correct. And even if what you say is true then your arguement applies to him aswell. If he finds those shows philosophical only and not other shows what is the reason for that ?

+ Show Spoiler + Bokurano deals with alternate Universes and life and death.
Trigun heavily deals with morals (Vash's vs Wolf's philosophy.) Do you save the butterfly, thus endangering the spider since it now lacks its only food source, or do you kill the spider and save the butterfly? Knives and Vash are both Alien, and have a completely different take on life.
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is harder to describe. To me, it's an anime that deals with guilt, responsibility, and the inexorable nature of life.
Gungrave deals with egoism, forgiveness, morality, life/death, and the ending is very philosophical.
Death Note deals with ethics (is it ok to kill people on Death Row if you have the power to do so) and is also religious. hell a rule in the death note basically says there is no God, something like "Anyone who dies ceases to exist"

yea that guy was right, the way your thinking about it pretty much makes every show that isnt a comedy/parody philosophical. So it does seem like your pretty fickle about what your going to like and what you wont, I dont think anyone can help much. I cant.

also k-on is pretty deep too, it shows that affection, love, and relationships extend beyond the human plane and into others such as music, food/drink, and sea turtles. it frames the issue of materialistic tendencies through the course of the show and how they both positively and negatively affect a persons character and emotional attachment to various objects.

Didn't finish in one go, but I did end up finishing Bungaku Shoujo 4 within the day. I enjoyed it a lot, partly due to Nanase, but also because I actually knew about Phantom of the Opera beforehand, so it ended up being a lot more interesting than the past 3 books. As far as Nanase's tsundere levels: I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. Although the story focused on her, too much time was spent on her being worried over Yuka rather than being tsundere towards Konoha (which from a normal perspective is to be expected, but I want my tsundere!). There were definitely some really good scenes but I think the first chapter which was completely filled with adorable tsundere set my expectations too high for the rest. I guess it was more like a few high level tsundere scenes rather than a steady and constant pace of average lines, which is what I thought it would be like. When I think about it, if there was constant tsundere, it would eventually get old, so perhaps this way was better; the scenes are much more memorable as well. That said, I really love how there are so many little things scattered across the books that lead up to the drama in vol5. That will definitely be another great read.

Theres like of 5 volumes translated right ? Ive been meaning to pick them up aswell but Im the type to go through a whole set so it always puts me off.
|
my problem with anime is there are so few that are actually good
usually one watchable show a season it feels like
right now im watching guilty crown which has this epic feel to it while somehow still being mediocre to watch.
also watching Nisemonogatari for the music and dialogue, but it's not something i'd recommend to anyone else.
of course there's also mirai nikki which i am watching for a friend and it's pretty funny, i guess. + Show Spoiler +laughed for years when the girl is sitting there half naked with her parents skulls on each chair, and then she to make the situation even weirder, she tried to get yuuki to pee in some tube thing. wot.
i need another show as good as steins gate to make me want to chronoboost out episode after episode until i've seen it all.
|
Nisemonogatari #4 + Show Spoiler + I fucking loved this episode. I thought Oshiroi was just a former shadow of her true self, that her mentality was also reduced to an 8 year old kid, but this was awesome :D. I love the speech mindfuck bakemono and nisemono have. So so good.

Chihayafuru is my favorite from last/this season.
If you're not into school life/sports you wont like it though.
