I mean, also haven't you had something "click" while doing a thing as well? Like I distinctly recall a wrestling match where I was close (and lost to the same guy earlier in the season), but losing until the 3rd period and then I realized the way to set him up for a takedown and then it was all over! Also, Luffy did the same vs. Katakuri. He's like a battle genius, learns faster than anyone else in the story. Alabasta is a masterpiece, and definitely better than anything post-timeskip, but that is such a high standard... I mean pretty much everyone. Sanji hasn't done shit post timeskip and now goes toe to toe with one of Kaido's strongest, Zorro did a lot vs the two emps, Robin is whipping out new techniques. Again I don't really mind it in OP, it's imo fine to be the underdog and win a clutch fight. Some shonen really overdo this though, the aforementioned Fairy Tail had a scene where one of the MCs was getting clearly overpowered by her enemy at every turn only to then said some power of friendship bs and then one-shot her opponent. Bleach too had a scene like that. Both certainly aren't paragons of consistency, but I found these extremely dumb, especially in stories where one-shots were very rare.

He got his ass kinda handed to him by Vergo and Doffy (zenkai). Then on Whole Cake: He got his ass kicked by Judge (zenkai), emotionally beat Luffy (emotions = haki a lot of the time), fought some more Big Mom officers. He also fought Page 1. Zoro crushed the drunk octopus and Pika, and arguably Hawkins. Then beat Killer, then conquered Enma. Thats 2 worst generations he beat without much struggle + a powerup. Robin hasn't been shown much, but it would be weird if she didn't have a timeskip powerup. Its certainly not that anomalous given what was set up for us. Fairy Tale is fun trash, like when Natsu sucks in lightning as well. They know what they are doing.

Calling it now vegapunk cloned him and he’s gonna be in Blackbeard’s crew and Luffy has to use the power of brotherly love to awaken his memories and ace dies again to block a Blackbeard attack Then like 6 chapters later the scene cuts to Alabasta where a guy walks into a building with a hole in his chest and sits down next to Pel but has no memories

We never see or hear anything regarding Zoro's parents. His physical resemblance to both Ryuma and the daimyo mentioned in this chapter are uncanny. And Zoro would have been a toddler when Kaido took over Wano.

I always wait for the official translation before being sure of something like that because the different translations are often very confused. Its certainly possible though. Zoro is currently 21, so he'd have been an infant when Kaido took over Wano. Shimusuki village was founded 55 years ago, so likely his parents move their then, or when he was 1 they (or others) traveled there in a sort of refugee situation.

I guess they went with 28 cause that's the age Momo would have been if he didn't get send forward in time. But yeah I doubt he's much bigger than he would have been with a few less years.

Next up it's revealed that Nami's father is a Celestial Dragon with genius navigating ability. I liked this series way better when it was about a group of orphans with modest backgrounds. The world becomes less authentic when a ragtag pirate crew scraped from East Blue is full of impressive people's kids. Not that this series has ever been realistic but come on.

Welcome to shonen where characters preach humble beginnings and hard work for the first half of the story only to be revealed to all be of divine birthright in the second half

Not only because they're a random hodgepodge of elements that are carelessly sewn together (French scifi nation of genetically modified assassins with a clone army and giant den den mushi fleet that combines into a castle), but also because they ruined Sanji for me. I like Sanji when he was just a random kid raised by Zeff, instead of some black sheep child of royalty. And now Sanji is going to unlock his genetic augmentations for a powerup? Super lame.

I mean, Zolo solo'd Whiskey Peak more or less, and that place probably easily killed the previous dozen pirate crews that passed through.

But now the author is retroactively blessing these guys with divine bloodlines. "Of course he was supposed to be great, it runs in the family!" Yawn.

the backstories to characters help us understand more about why they are the way they are not to justify strength. it’s one piece not naruto. (that all being said the vinsmoke backstory and the sabo character are some things i really dislike because they seem more like retcons and not organic)
