Looks like the final fight has been set up.
Wasn't it established already that normal attacks don't do jack against Kaido? For him to take real damage, it has to be inflicted by the new technique, right?

Sorta? Its established that due to Kaido's skin/scales, it would be extremely difficult to damage Kaido with a normal attack. We've actually seen a few instances where he was damaged by techniques other than that thing Luffy learned. For instance, Law's devil fruit was able to cut Kaido, and Zoro was able to cut him as well.

It's the only way for Luffy to critically damage him yes.

While I agree in context, avoiding fodder and respecting the power of sub-bosses has always had a point in OP, which distinguishes it from Dragonball and other similar stories. If the 9 Scabbards had been 99 scabbards (of equal power) Kaido would have been too tired to stand against the 5 worst gens that made it to the top. Even though he is, at full, or half power practically immune to any one of them. Its a different storytelling method that I enjoy.
If some troop is truly fodder now we just have them pass out with conquerors. But no straw hat would pass out from that right now, its all about things that actually take effort, which is why the battle is split up. Otherwise they'd just walk in the front door and win a series of 1v1s or 1v100s with no effort expended like the ten tails vs. the Ninja Alliance

I found the two finished fights quite underwhelming but at least they were conclusive unlike what the reveal implies about a previous one.

Finally, we're in the finale. I'm guessing Oda will try to finish off King and Queen before Kaido, so this may drag on for a bit, but at least we're in the endgame!

Yeah, they're the leaders of the Minks, and they sailed with the number two baddest assed pirate of all time, they're 'nobodies' in that they likely aren't super famous notable pirates, but they're hardly 'nobodies' in the sense that they're in any way weak.

TBH that was my most hype part of the chapter, even more than the sky split. But Ino and Neko are not nobodies. The Mokomo Dukedom is at least known to the WG as several people from it are notorious pirates:
Pekoms: 330,000,000
Pedro: 382,000,000
Zepo: ??
They also have a minimum sale price at the black market of 700,000, same as longleg and longarm tribe members.
Also, personally I think Ino/Neko would have bounties if not for the WG's general racism which probably impede most of them from logically connecting the figures seen on Whitebeard's ship to those two leaders of the Mink country.

The only reason I whine is because I remember how great One Piece once was and how great it could still be.
That said, I am looking forward to Wano ending, since I feel like we are sitting on a massive lore bomb and the next arc will finally move the main plot forward and start answering questions.
