I'm somewhat fine with the Zorro part since we don't really know a lot about his old man and he's dead anyways, I agree that the Vinsmoke part wasn't very good and I'd rather not have a throwback to it.

i dont know about others but for me ive always assumed from the very beginning that zoro had a family background in swordsmanship so its less of an issue that his wano lineage is coming to light.
i do agree overall on the point that the strawhats' struggles get watered down if they were all destined by blood though. this point has come up before in this thread too

and to be fair One Piece at least was pretty up front right away about Luffy basically being divine birthright as grandson of Garp, son of Dragon, and Will of D being part of the story almost immediately. it's definitely a shonen trope though but Naruto is prob the worst offender of it

People when it's finally explained: "What he's special? That's bullshit!"

So, like, you guys were fine with Oda saying "His LEG is hot?! No, it's not hot!! SANJI'S HEART WAS BURNING SO MUCH HOTTER!!!" with some connection to his trauma experience with the OKAMA as to why it now lights up without friction...

His burning leg thing was pretty lame from the outset so this random powerup doesn't even upset me. I'm also puzzled about the raid suit, it makes him invisible so how the hell are you going to visualize fights?

I wasn't a fan of Diable Jambe or Asura when they were first shown. They really stretch the rules of the OP universe. Like we already established devil fruits and rokushiki, but then Sanji could just heat his leg up like a hot iron out of nowhere and Zoro could also turn into three people? What? There was also zero setup for any of it. It's like they got devil fruit powers without ever eating fruits themselves. I guess Oda really needed them to "level up" along with Luffy and his gears...

not to mention that swords/weapons seem to have magical powers without any devil fruit involvement.... like how exactly does enma work? what makes the kitetsu blades cursed? how does kinemon make fire with his sword? its like, the most powerful swodsman in the world just uses different variations of getsuga tensho but this "average" samurai can make fire with his sword....and somehow vista makes rose petals? senbonzakura?

wrong manga for that my dude. One piece has always been 6/10 manga for kids at best. Just need to watch for the reveals and the rewards. The story in between is set up purely for the plot to progress.

It's Ushimaru Shimotsuki, the daimyo mentioned last chapter (who is possibly Zoro's dad). Ryuma predates this flashback by a few centuries.

Biologically she's clearly a girl, unless I missed something. She wants to be Oden, but knows she isn't, so imo it's more admiration and she's not really transgender as in thinking she should be male.

Or as someone on Reddit put it: If Oden was female, Yamato would still want to be Oden. It's not about the gender.

So far I think Oda is keeping it "Yamato is Yamato". Although, my Japanese is nonexistent so there might be something the translators aren't conveying to me. There is definitely a difference between wanting to be Oden (or be like Oden) and wanting to being a generic guy.

I really hope Yamato joins the crew. Yamato is badass, and a legendary Zoan would be so dope to have on the crew. We'd have a proper Four Commanders type situation at that point though, Zoro, Yamato, Jinbe, and Sanji. I think I'd be in for that.

Yamato would also make a good match for Katarina Devon in a vs. Blackbeard scenario, legendary zoan vs legendary zoan and all.

Yamato is probably my favorite character from this arc tbh, Katakuri levels of awesome.

I think Momo aging increases the possibility. If he had remained an 8 year old I think she would have stayed behind to help govern but now that he's "old enough" he can be the actual Shogun

the last Vivre Card 100% calls Yamato a female, not a transgender as it does for some other characters.
In the manga, she insists she is Oden, so people around her probably started callling her "he/oden" because of that
