Its not confirmed, but its a damn good reason as to why Luffy was able to beat a Shichibukai who was able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Doflamingo and Mihawk all the way back in the early part of the Grand Line. Its probably the single best unconfirmed theory I've read in this thread lol

With all this talk about Awakening and how much control Dofl has with his fruit, he kind of puts Crocodile to shame. Sure, Croc had some control, but compared to what we're seeing now he was at a pretty low tier of control. Kind of funny when Croc boasted so much about how he could control his fruit.

What if Croc was using his fruit to cause the massive, nation-wide drought that lasted for years, and thats why it started raining all over the country right after he was defeated?

I already thought that was the reason.

it was smoker who released the dancing powder that made the rain. you thought wrong.

Where was it confirmed that Crocodile used to be such a badass? I have always just assumed that the Shichibukai aren't equal in fighting power.

crocodile killed luffy many times over through that arc if not for people saving him / lucky breaks / crocodile's arrogant, luffy got multiple do overs after he got beat, in the very end luffy would have still died to crocodile's poison after his final attack and won't be able to finish crocodile off. Luffy didn't beat him legit, you can argue it was a tie at the last fight.

Well, they clearly aren't equal in battle power. We saw that pretty clearly when Jinbei roflstomped Moria. But we also saw Crocodile go against the likes of Doflamingo, Mihawk, and even Akainu, without getting his shit kicked in. So either he has always been that level and he somehow fucked up bad in that 3rd Luffy fight, or he got really strong while being an apathetic ass in prison.

Moria seems to be one of those that is weak for a very long time, but if you give him a lot of time to himself he can eventually snowball into being pretty powerful. (at least his fruit, Moria himself seems pretty noob).

Smoker did indeed find Dance Powder that was being transported by Baroque Works. And there was also Dance Powder that was planted into the Royal Palace that was used to frame the Royal Family. One can assume that this means Dance Powder was used to make it only rain in the Capitol. And honestly, that's probably why it only rained in the Capitol.

However, Smoker discovering an incoming shipment of Dance Powder off the coast isn't what caused the nation-wide rain. The sudden rain when Crocodile was defeated could have been a big symbolic coincidence, or it could have been because Crocodile was using his powers to contribute to the drought. We know he can effect the weather, considering he was the one who made those sand storms to destroy the Yuba Oasis. In the end, its just supposition without any hard facts to back it up (thus why its just a theory), but it makes sense to me.

do you guys remember how dancing powder produce rain? go re read the chapter, you will know for sure how Crocodile was able to produce the drought. And it's not because of his fruit power.

Yeah, it steals rain from surrounding areas. I already said, it definitely was in play in Alabasta. It just doesn't explain the huge coincidence of Crocodile's defeat being almost immediately followed by a nation-wide rain storm for the first time in decades, though. And it could have just been that, a coincidence. But I like the idea that it wasn't.

Do that yourself. Smoker captures Croc's Rain ship, and Hina thinks he might have used it to cause the rain but that's no fact.

The part with the rain ship and crocodile and the rain is all left vague and open to interpretation. I think the real reason Luffy beat Croc was because he discovered his weakness and brought him down. Pre-timeskip Luffy with Haki wouldn't be that far off from post-timeskip Luffy. And Luffy having water was like him having Haki. Same way Luffy beat Enel the "invincible" pre-timeskip. Croc is also really slow and often caught by surprise. He excels at destroying people who are ignorant of his power like Luffy, the first 2 times anyway. After Croc's weaknesses and movesets are learned, he isn't that hard to beat.

first 2 times croc played smart he used his advantage to land critical blows

the 3rd time he went for luffys advantage in a straight up fight

he was just too mentally exhausted to win at that point

Doflamingo is a lot worse off internally than he looks. After Luffy gets that one hit in, he'll be close to death; I wonder who will save him. Law maybe? Though he would have to have a really good reason.

Tell that to all the experienced fighters who already knew about his abilities, who also failed to beat him, at Marineford.

The coincidence is just that, a coincidence, lol. Probably was just meant to be symbolic, since Croc was the one who stole their rain with that powder, so defeating him got it back.

What he can do still pales in comparison to the things both Luffy and Dofl can do with their fruits.
