Again, this was at the time quincy Zangetsu was surpressing hollow Zangetsu. The statement is not invalid it just gains a different meaning. You will find this in all anime writing.. the initial literal meaning is not the "intended" meaning (I use the term intended loosely because character statements are always conveniently vague and intepretable for the appropriate plot twist).... As far as hollow Zangetsu is concenrned Ichigo chose quincy Zangetsu to raise/train him - the part that hollow Zangetsu forgot to mention is that quincy Zangetsu is in fact quincy - and that he, hollow zangetsu, was his "true" Zangetsu.... but then even that is a lie because we now know that they're BOTH zangetsu...
Notice how Ichigo was using zangetsu completely differently (even using zangetsu as a shield at times) compared to how hollow zangetsu was using it... however, they both wielded zangetsu... quincy zangetsu just tricked ichigo into thinking hollow zangetsu was bad and taught him a different way to wield zangetsu...
so yes... if you look too far into the literal meaning with anime nothing will make sense. Just relax and stop thinking too hard.. or you'll end up a sad angry man... like me.
